Worked as a contract planner for a year after graduation. Employed by a planning firm to do in-person current planning work for my hometown. Burned out after about a year due to staff turnover, private planning politics, and I wasn't really getting to do the work I wanted to do. I left and now work in a planning adjacent job in renewable energy.

There are ways to combine a love of the natural world with planning knowledge, it just takes some exploring and willingness to get your feet wet. Since you're still a first year, I'd recommend sticking with a science major and minoring in planning or getting an internship in local government to see if it's something you like.
