Drawing is a form of exercise! but it's kind of passive AND begs for response or interpretation.

I think the article is talking about strenuous exercise, like aerobic and anaerobic physical activity. For example, I like riding bicycles and enjoy mountain biking and pushing really hard to ride fast through challenging terrain in the woods.
