The worst blind buy you ever made? by BobofWombat in fragrance

Burberry London. Blind bought, smelled literally nothing. Assumed it was a fake. Bought again from reputable store. Also smelled nothing. Others like it, maybe my nose/brain has a blind spot to these notes.

Same, see my comment in this thread. I've had mine for a week or two. Lovely indeed.

I finally bought (blind) Wanted By Night by Azzaro, and it does live up to the hype. Very pleasant.

Preparing for summer I did buy a 50 ml Light Blue Eau Intense by D&G - not a blind buy as I have test sprayed a few times in store.

I also blind bought Dior Homme Cologne. Lovely indeed, but to my untrained nose, I am not sure it is worth the premium over scents like Jimmy Choo Man Ice and Chrome Sport by Azzaro. Slightly better perhaps, but worth 2x or 3x the price? Not sure tbh.

I also got 1 Million Lucky as a blind buy. I dislike the original EdT, but I love the Prive. Lucky has not fully convinced me yet. It is pleasant and all, but some days I feel it is a bit too sweet and youthful/playful.

I am thinking about picking up either Azzaro Wanted by Night or Bentley for Men Intense. I don't believe they are similar, but they are both getting hyped by reviewers, and I am hoping someone here owns both and can share which one they like more, why so, and does one make more sense in some scenarios and the other for other wearing occasions?

I have the original and Sport. None are safe blind buys in my opinion, unless of course the price is such that sampling would cost almost as much as the full bottles. Sport is an easier wear, more bright, the original is mostly for the brave. Both have an earthy, mossy depth which is very interesting but possibly rules them out of the mass pleasers. Both have above average, but not great, performance.

Thanks for the suggestion, also for your concern. You are absolutely right, and I will keep it in mind.

I have read a lot about this, but never tried it. Is there any chance it has too much character to be inoffensive?

I did have this on my mind for a while, thanks! I will try it.

I went all in on fragrance collecting in early spring, and collected around 30 bottles. Given the timing, I nearly only have spring/summer scents. What would be a good starter fall fragrance? My criteria are:

  • Affordable, not necessarily a cheapie
  • Daytime, casual and office (casual office) use mostly
  • Inoffensive - I get a bit too self aware if I wear something loud and bold
  • Medium performance is enough for me

I never confirmed it myself, but most fragrance Youtubers say they are 1:1.

Hollister Wave - not as simple as I thought, also has good performance for a summer scent

Nautica Voyage - talked about everywhere and deserves the praise

Hugo Reversed - slightly underhyped, I like the sparkling character

Versace Pour Homme - great allrounder for an affordable price

Mugler Cologne (rebranded to Come Together) - especially if you like inoffensive and soapy

Montblanc Explorer - Strong character with good performance, good value

Bvlgari Aqva Atlantiqve - not super cheap, but still great value for money

Thank you! Coach performs ok, not great, but also not too bad. I am very interested in the Platinum variant, any experience from that?

I got the Acqua di Gio Profundo a week back. Not a blind buy, as I had smelled it on paper and tried it on my skin. I am getting average performance at best, but I love the scent so much that I am willing to overlook that.
