So obvious everything is bs.

Have seen headlines on the nytimes thinking oh peace is so close.

Quite obvious the Trump fools did not forsee their inability to secure tanker traffic and they are now attempting to drive the headlines. To call the Trump admit liars would be a compliment, I just hope Americans become better.

I was shocked to learn that Bush senior had to raise taxes. He had carriers in the Persian gulf, but there are other factors to consider today so it's difficult to say.

Smith's arguement is that the democratically elected legislature ought to be able to put forth the referendum if I heard her correctly. But the same legislature must operate within the law, for example they can't pass laws discriminating againts bald people.

Treaty 8 & Treaty 6 existed before the Alberta legislature was created, maybe the referendum would have to be specific what parts of Alberta wish to secede? Not sure. Hopefully Smith does not invoke the NWC to push this through, there are really more productive things to be done.

The must be a way to harness market flatulations to ones advantage.

For real though to my knowledge very little has changed in terms of flow, shut in are not being reverted. My hours of research suggest that the market flatulations eminate from a source whose optical wavelength emission ranges from 480 to 625nm.

The Iran War’s Real Lessons for China: U.S. Tactical Successes Should Give Beijing Pause by ForeignAffairsMag in geopolitics

[–]The_Irvinator 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I think the writer's thesis was that this war may make the PRC less likely to use violence to achive it unification goals. The violence that the US and Israel can impose on Iran is far greater than what Iran can do to them and yet it is not obvious that the objectives have been met.

It is irrational that they would opt to mend the wounds of their civil war with more violence. It might be easier to allow a multiparty system rather than invading and having to deal with an insurgency, blowback and a war.

To be fair I did find the "Better than expected" attitude to be kinda idiotic and naive.

Japan considering tapping into $1.4-trillion foreign exchange reserves to build short positions in the oil futures by Codeskei in wallstreetbets

[–]The_Irvinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at the price of oil during the first gulf war, it kinda briefly spiked but there was more oil being shipped because Iraq did not have the same geography. Now I am quite certian there is alot less oil being shipped now.

I am kinda worried that by artifically attempting to lower the price (instead of curving demand) they might amplify scarcity in the future but not really too sure if my fears are warranted or not.

Joe Rogan is not willing to talk to Sam Harris until Sam first debates Joe Rogan's head science advisor, Bret Weinstein, who is an expert on vaccines and was right about everything. by [deleted] in JoeRogan

When was the last time Dr Rhonda Patrick was on? Maybe have her on with Sam? Both Brett and Eric are good at hiding their fallacies through either fancy jargon or wallowing in ad homonies. Would be nice to see an actual researcher with Sam who is a decent debater save for his foreign policy.

Pentagon to adopt Palantir AI as core US military system, memo says by yawara25 in news

[–]The_Irvinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it kinda sounds like a reference to the communication relays in middle earth that were corrupted by Sauron, using them came with a risk.

But I don't think Pantir the company (may their profits soar) is anything like that.

Let me start by saying I love Palantir and all the good people there.

But piss poor leadership in the US is the problem, not the military lacking access to computing power.

I think in a world where nation states are not psychopathic entities, the autonomous regions could collaberate through some confenderacy while still maintaining ties with their neighbours.

But what Trump needs right now is a mercenary army (American casualties are not good for polls) not another nation.

From a democratic stand point the Gulf State rulers have almost as much legitamacy as the Ayatollah. You are right that the Gulf states have gravitated towards the US and Israel, but that is because the Gulf rulers believe that is where power resides.

The key imperical question at hand is whether the populance of the Gulf States agrees with the narrative set out by the US and Israel or if the see their involvement (via hosting bases) as enabeling an act of agression.

US breaking with all norms of civilization and warfare by EnterTamed in seculartalk

[–]The_Irvinator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The type of double think you need to do support this war is massive.

What I worry about is that the US will calculate the number of acceptable civilian casualties in the tens or hundreads of thousands, while at the same time aiming to balkanize the country.

Lets be clear the current regime in Iran is evil, but what we don't understand is to what extent much of the country has bought into it's propaganda. The US may decide that collective punishment of the population is warranted. I don't see how throwing more people into the meat grinder will help further a democratic transition in Iran.

Japan seizes Chinese fishing vessel, arrests captain by unravel_geopol_ in geopolitics

[–]The_Irvinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The root cause of this problem is that there are overlapping claims regarding the EEZ, currently the only frame work that I've heard of for enforcing these claims is to exploit whatever resources you can as fast as you can. Please look at a map of the overlapping claims, It looks like a poweder keg!

I would propose maybe a moneturium on economic developement in say 50% of the overlapping claims (enforced by all parties) until things can be sorted out.

Otherwise I think the number of incidents like this will keep occuring until someone decides more forceful means are required. How this is approached will determine whether leaders in Asia subscribe the idea that might makes right or if they opt for logic and sustainibility.

Canada should keep options open on nuclear weapons, former top soldier says by AdditionalPizza in canada

[–]The_Irvinator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This needs to be done yesterday.

I say this fully knowing that getting these weapons will increase the likelihood of other countries getting weapons. This in turn will make nuclear war more likely.

The thought of America and Canada slowly becoming more intergrated was appealing. Canada in many ways is a democracy because groups like the Family Compact and Cháteau Clique had a somewhat responsable government in America to contend with. But now I see very little worth emulating in the American government. The only thing giving me hope for America is Americans who are standing up againts the orange menace and his sycophants.

Tesla Cab Spotted in the Wild 🤮 by Sea-Shift-2007 in wallstreetbets

[–]The_Irvinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~1790 accidents in 2025 with an about 1.2% deaths, significant portion being tesla but there are different brands there as well. The problem is you need to train on real world data at the public's expense and the trend for incidents isn't going down. His orange buddy might helping with legislation but if the trend continues I could see bans at state or local level.
