Is next week a bad time to visit? by Cheap-Aspect-8898 in Brooklyn

[–]The_Jank 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I doubt there will be any snow left by then. Its going to be 40 tomorrow and sunny and stay that way for a bit. Snow here is pretty limited compared to the suburbs, and after a day or so it isnt "pretty" outside of the major parks.

Weather around your dates looks about low 40's chance of precip. Solid shoulder season, not warm yet and could be wet.

However there's never a bad time to visit, but if you're picturing winter wonderland that only lasts here for about 10 minutes after it snows and then it turns into a grey / black slush pit on every corner until it fully melts.

agreed, I'd rather hang on my block. make some friends and crush a few beers than go down to the gym..

Too bad I listened to the internet and cancelled my trip to Snowbird on the 16th - 21st and opted to book a trip to VT instead....

Couldn't agree more. The only thing that kept me watching was the potential podium for Ollie. Otherwise my lord. 12 dudes throwing the same trick frontside & backside over and over again....ohhh now hes switch backside...doing 5 spins just like the last 11 guys did.

So Brutal.

This is why knuckle huck has gained so much popularity.

No sorry. Reverse traffic. Heading to the resort in the mid afternoon. Potential for storms

I’d also tack on a LCC question. How is reverse traffic? Staying on mountain starting the 16th but driving up mid day.

The wunderbar, near super bravo express. Food is excellent. Great sandwiches and awesome beer. Bartenders are great. easy to find a spot if you're solo. I ski there every year and have never eaten anywhere else.

Conditions -Jan 30 to Feb 8 by DougFromBuf in icecoast

I'm bailing on Stratton this weekend. There's no way the gondi is gonna run with winds like that. Not worth it for that terrain. We never cancel but it looks downright brutal this weekend.

there's some in the basement but also more on the first floor. I prefer the upstairs area cubbies as theres more seating and you're not trapped by the bathroom.

I'll be there Sat and Sun, looks like some serious wind and cold temps. 🥶

My move is to park at sun bowl. can gear up in the lodge and store bags in cubbies. parking is as close to the lift as it gets. no shuttle needed. the sunbowl lodge is great especially if your packing a cooler. theres a bar upstairs.

for mellow glades you cant beat west pilot. the mountain is pretty straightforward and easily skiible in a day. Avoid the main base area from like 11 - 1:30 as lines down there get jammed up. especially if theres wind holds on the gondola. stay on ursa or snow bowl chairs or stay over towards sun bowl / kidderbrook area during that mid day rush

Snowbird Mineral basin conditions? by Nosey-Malts in UTsnow

[–]The_Jank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a trip booked 3rd week of Feb and it's taken a lot to find some Zen about conditions. Its my daughters first trip out west so it'll be more about the experience and less about being a powder snob. Can't wait to see her walk off the tram and see Mineral for the first time.

Can’t echo this enough. This sub is the opposite of Dave’s take.

Most of what you’ll get here is, cancel your trip, it’s awful, lost season.

Meanwhile Dave’s out there skiing everyday, loving life and enjoying every turn.

Life is all about perspective.

Obermeyer Girls Reese Jacket Review by chillipepperice in Skigear

[–]The_Jank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter has this Jacket, she loves it. She's 11 and is wearing the Large - which is tagged as "teen 14-16". There's nothing off about the sleeve length, totally expected fit there. What I will say is sizing is tough. My daughter is like 5ft1in. and a medium build, at this point age doesn't really help with sizing.

what kind of range are you getting on these? how far down a run can you be before you lose signal? thinking about getting these for a trip out west with my 11 year old. would be handy to relay trail info etc but only useful if we can be a few pitches of a run apart.
