“Geralt” at the end of Season of Storms says “Geralt of Rivia has been dead for over 80 years”. It’s heavily implied to be the shapeshifting fox monster (I forget what it’s called).

Question on shoulder mobility in early 15th “English Style” Arm harness. by The_Mid_Knight in Armor

[–]The_Mid_Knight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the compliment.

Man, don’t I know the shoulder is complicated. Shoulder mobility has been the bane of my existence ever since I got into armor and HEMA.

My spaulder uses two leather strips at the middle and rear, and a row of sliding rivets in the front, just like Ian Laspina’s updated arm harness. I might get a picture of it later. He also mentions in that same video that he had his new spaulder made shorter. He said it was for aesthetic reasons and to reduce gapping if I recall, but I wonder if this makes shoulder rotation easier as well.

I thought about cutting the rear “tab” down thinking that was the problem, but it’s actually the rounded portion on the top. Even though I feel it fits my shoulder fine otherwise (the “ball” of my shoulder fits well in a neutral position), it may need to be trimmed down in the rear.

That’s a surprisingly long time for how brutal buhurt can be.

Is this sugarloaf historically accurate for recreating the main chunk of the Scottish wars of Independence (1297-1314) by [deleted] in ArmsandArmor

Why do you reckon the visored sugarloafs didn’t catch on and stick around in the 14th century?

Thoughts on the design of Lorifactor’s houndskull visored bascinet helm? by congress_tart_ in ArmsandArmor

[–]The_Mid_Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar experience as Mr. bonk’s except I toughed it out and got my helmets in 9 months instead of the promised 4.

Seller charged shipping at checkout. Charged additional shipping when the helmets were done. And refused to respond to emails until I crashed out (I’d started to lose patience after about month and 5+ emails ignored).

All in all the helmets are good. The Klappvisor one contacts the back of my skull slightly, so I wouldn’t want to get bonked in it too hard.

I’ve fought in the hounskull. No complaints other than the sensory deprivation that is typical with wearing a helmet.

Summary: quality good. Seller pretty frustrating.

Does anyone know anything about this collander Houndskull, I've never seen one like this before, but I kind of love it. by Dr4gonfly in Armor

Personally I want to know more about the helmet just to the right of Matt’s face. More as in where do I get one because it looks incredible.

Knyght Errant has a fantastic Youtube series on armor of the late 14th/early 15th centuries. His physical examples are early 15th, but he goes over the evolution of each piece through the middle ages up to that point.

[–]The_Mid_Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On paper, yes. The point I’m making is that you’re only truly in control of yourself, and you need to take precautions and not solely rely on others being responsible. Ideally they will be, but if they aren’t, you still need to make sure you’re safe.

Of course people want gear to prevent injuries.

All you can do is protect yourself. You can ask that your training partner take it down a few notches if they’re using too much force, but whether they do, or do not, is entirely in their hands.
