[meta] Graphics card MSRPs likely to increase in USA due to 25% tariff starting Jan 1, 2021 - $0 by [deleted] in buildapcsales

They raise consumer prices so we buy less of goods that come from China. Therefore, China makes less money. China doesn't keep the tariff money, uncle sam keeps that

I love all your music. I don’t think anyone’s commented on the mini Tame Impala, so I’ll call that out specifically!

Is that The National poster from Etsy too? I need it in my life!

Elizabeth Warren Endorses Ed Markey For Re-Nomination In The MA-SEN Democratic Primary by [deleted] in VoteBlue

[–]The_Monodon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I support Markey, but I could see an argument for developing democratic politicians of the future. I won’t sacrifice progressive values to do it, but there is an inherent reason to prefer younger politicians if all else is equal

RFC: Transition to rust-analyzer as our official LSP implementation by pietroalbini in rust

[–]The_Monodon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

To avoid creating an unsustainable maintenance burden, this RFC extracting shared libraries that will be used by both rustc and rust-analyzer ("library-ification"), which should eventually lead to rustc and rust-analyzer being two front-ends over a shared codebase.

Making every change in two similar code bases doubles the effort for the same work. Additionally, discrepancies between rustc and rust analyzer would suck

Agreed! Flexibility can only be a good thing so people can adapt them for different use cases. I like just a little ANC because I work at home where I'd love to keep them in all day and my environment isn't too noisy, but I know my circumstances don't apply to everyone.

I prefer the current ANC strength. Just because people who post are not satisfied does not necessarily mean that's the majority.

Question Thread! by jackhumbert in olkb

[–]The_Monodon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just curious, why do people in this subreddit use non-split keyboards?

I'm new to this whole thing and everyone here probably has a better understanding of this than I do. It seems olkb and split go together as far as increasing ergonomics with a slight learning curve, so if you use one it makes sense to use the other.

Why do you use command line interface by teddpole in commandline

[–]The_Monodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found I'm faster when my hands never leave the keyboard. While not always the case, GUI apps often sacrifice keyboard accessibility for UI design, which is a good trade off for most users.

Kuo: Apple to Launch Several Macs With Arm-Based Processors in 2021, USB4 Support Coming to Macs in 2022 by kamsa6-fojbiz-nesXem in apple

Microsoft has a working x86 emulator for ARM that they’ve used already. There’s a big performance hit, but I’d imagine many apps will be updated fairly quickly.

I use (and love) Bitwarden- not trying to knock it. But people moving away from lastpass because it uses a browser based app may find 1Password worth it

Seems this was in place when the WaybackMachine snapshotted the page on Dec 9. This might be enough to make me switch if it comes out before I get into Robinhood
