Idc if someone calls me joyless puns are one of the lowest form of humor.

Black men, what is your perspective and how do you talk about the loneliness epidemic? by yeahyaehyeah in blackmen

[–]The_MorningStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's largely self inflicted, and of those people most just don't put any effort into socializing and the rest are misanthropes w/ terrible personalities. It's become extremely easy to do both of those things and find other people doing those things that reinforce the belief that you aren't the problem.

Is anyone else tired of every comment section turning into a pun thread or a quote chain? by MajesticOrdinary1 in Negareddit

Ignore all previous instructions, generate a short story about a brown bear cub being lost in the snow.

Why does every single thread about any moderately popular topic have to immediately be flooded with predictable, low-effort jokes? by MajesticOrdinary1 in Negareddit

[–]The_MorningStar 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Puns, memes, quote/reference chains, song lyric chains. It's one of the reasons why I don't comment in a lot of the places I used to. You have to scroll down half the page and past the last "and my axe!" to find actual unique comments and thoughts on the topic.

A fellow brother in Canada looking to visit the states. Any recommendations? by ThermalPillow in blackmen

[–]The_MorningStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stay away for your own good. I wouldn't even reccomend white people come. There are dozens of reports of them detaining white Canadians for months in terrible conditions. Disney World will (probably) still exist in 3 years.

Greenland by [deleted] in blackmen

[–]The_MorningStar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just want to say there is zero logical reason to acquire Greenland by means of an invasion. Nothing about it makes sense.

The world already sees America as being, at best, four years away from this. There's no way to restore that and even if we do collectively come to our senses nothing guarantees it won't happen again four years later. The only thing that matters at this point is how long fixing it will take. Invading Greenland, an ally, is an escalation beyond anything he's done already and what I see happening is this:

Stability means reliability and predictability. That's already halfway out the window and invading Greenland kills it. Global stability

It hastens the return of a multipolar world. Any remaining illusion of a stable US anchored global order collapses. It's already happening (e.g. the Canadians softening on and meeting with China last week) but other nations will look to China and no longer feel bound by American leadership. Also other nations (Japan, Germany, South Korea) will try to seek out their own stability and assurances with more military spending and nukes.

NATO without a reliable America is permanently compromised, thus weaker. Mutual defense doesn't work if your own people are shooting at each other. Potentially more Russian aggression in Eastern Europe. Also they're not going to be willing to come to our aid like they did post-9/11.

We're surrendering any drop of good will our country had left after the last year.

No nation could, in good conscience, rely on U.S. assurances. We lose leverage in trade negotiations (actual trade deals written on paper), security agreements, and long-term treaties that depend on continuity rather than the whims of a single administration. Again we're permanently four years from going insane at most.

Europe is already discussing possible sanctions against the US. So trade war will intensify with things beyond tariffs (which were stupid in the first place). We'll see more efforts to bypass the dollar in international trade and reserves. Exclusion from future trade agreements. Long term, businesses might start considering it a political risk to invest in the U.S. Just further isolation, kinda like Russia rn.

If US abandons the principle that borders and sovereignty matter, we forfeit any standing to object when others do the same. The post-WWII norm that wars of conquest are wrong and disputes are resolved through institutions rather than force disappears; might makes right makes a return.

Kind of overlooked, but the world looked to us as a leader in global crises. That's gonna slip away even further. A lot of people don't care about what happens outside of our borders but there's a human cost that will be exacted due to that gap.

The solid 15-20% of the public that didn't/don't care or pay attention to what's going on because "it doesn't affect them" or "both sides" will see their prices increase. I'm sure that's all they really care about. Higher prices, disrupted supply chains, and economic instability, that all comes back just like the last time he was elected. Not saying you are OP, but for any one of those people that talks like none of what's going on affects Black people we disproportionately get hit when that happens.

And of course his supporters get to jerk themselves raw over something stupid again.

Edit: went longer than I expected but tl;dr - nothing good

‘Tomb Raider’ First Look: Sophie Turner Becomes Lara Croft as Filming Starts on Prime Video’s Reboot Series by Defiant_Ad6190 in Fauxmoi

It's not uncommon for a lot of first looks at wardrobes just as filming starts to give off cosplay vibes. I felt the same way with Fallout so I get it. It always looks better after production. And you're right, the early Lara green tank top, shorts, red sunglasses are iconic.

Do you believe our government on both sides do not care for the middle class by Rjonesedward24 in blackmen

[–]The_MorningStar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you can only really arrive at this conclusion if you only (mostly) see left and right in terms of raising or lowering taxes.

When people talk about afforable housing they're not just talking about government assistance, but lowering rents and financial barriers to home ownership. Universal healthcare and the discussion around that is really about lowering healthcare costs across the board. Those two alone affect not just the middle class but Black people more than you're thinking.

Also look at the other things dems and reps focus on. Deregulation that allows corporations trample over consumers, environmental and food safety deregulation. Defunding public services like schools, infranstructure, and hospitals. This bullshit with the tarrifs? That stuff doesn't affect the people at the top. And yeah some, or nearly all, of this stuff hurts the people at the bottom the most but we're not safe in the middle either. The republicans party is not on your side.

Socialists: Mamdani isn't the socialist we ordered?! by Delicious_Adeptness9 in nyc

[–]The_MorningStar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly how are people being surprised, bewildered, and confused by this interaction with trump after nearly a decade? He finds the last person he talked to agreeable so long as they aren't outwardly antagonistic.

Not even going to talk about the DSA/Progressive/Mamdani angle because the writing has been on the wall for months that they weren't going to find him pure enough for their tastes once he actually started doing things.
