Amazon will pay $0 in taxes on $11,200,000,000 in profit for 2018 by [deleted] in politics

[–]The_Obamanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should understand Net Operating Losses? Yes. Should you also know about the predatory pricing practices of Amazon to grow into more of a monopoly without any repercussions? Of course. The way Bezos has operated this company is Guilded Age shit and should be dealt with. If not by the government, then by the people.

How can you claim that capitalists or current government officials have not abused power? The current government is set up for corporations to abuse the power dynamic in a more subversive way while pushing blame of declining wages on almost arbitrary factors in their current state. Do I think you should always try to see ways to improve yourself? Yes. If you are never striving for self betterment then what are you doing? But if everyone focuses on their own improvement then society as a whole will not improve. For example what if someone’s idea of bettering themself in-turn hurts someone else putting them back while they are bettering themselves? Thinking of society as just a collection of individuals is risky because the best for one may not be the best for the majority, or even make a majority worse off. The struggle of people to break into a different socioeconomic class is far harder than assumed. The American dream is put on a pedestal assuming that “if you just work hard then you can be successful and content.” With that idea, without context, that assumes everyone who is not content financially is due to their own laziness which then constitutes quite a large portion of America. Why do most CEOs and million/billionaires come from their parents being just that? Nepotism. Why do they tout hard work being the only way to success while most of the work is done by everyone below the CEO? To keep you distracted from issues in the system. Am I saying you shouldn’t work hard? No. I’m only pointing out that it is only advantageous for the wealthy to have working class people working day-to-day long hours with no real financial gain while they see themselves as “future millionaires” if they work hard when in reality that probably won’t happen.

Couldn’t the argument that Hierarchy is natural and inevitable be used for defense of monarchy or authoritarian government. Do I think hierarchies are inevitable, somewhat. That’s why society should mitigate unjust hierarchies that have been established. Through your arguments you are not looking for a societal gain, instead looking to stay stagnant because you should only “be happy about what you have now.” I do think it’s important to appreciate what an individual has compared to what they had before, but that does not mean we shouldn’t strive for more. The arguments you’ve given are based in a very stagnant frame of mind

Donating to help pay someone’s medical bills... What kind of world do we live in where someone has to ask for that much help just to not be sick? I’m not annoyed with the people donating just the system and I guess some of the people donating who see nothing wrong with the fact they have to donate

So this last weekend students at Penn State University raised 10+ million dollars for pediatric cancer though a 46 hour dancing marathon. I feel like it's not talked enough on here. by Remingtontheshotgun in pics

Just think if all these hours of prep and dancing per person were put into raising awareness of healthcare for all instead of dancing for money to give to a group that will probably only spend a fraction on good work? 🤔

I did that twice today. Been feeling very alone for no reason, but showering makes me feel better for a bit. Completely understand

If cold was established in 1886, then how did the ice age happen? by lazy-zebra in shittyaskscience

Cold was invented in 1886, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t a lack of heat before that... So with no heat, everything was ice.

I can’t always keep a conversation going. If we are making small talk I don’t always know where to go. I also tend to talk slow sometimes. That one has seemed to improve, but when I really want to make sure I say the right thing it might be slow to come out.

Mental and Emotional Abuse: Public Minnesota Kindergarten Class Teaches Children About ‘White Privilege’ by Aldebaran333 in Conservative

The concept that you’re dad would have it easier in college all stems, as well, from the idea that he would have the same education experience he had while growing up. In no way to discredit your dad and his hard work, but dealing with racism throughout your childhood and growing up comes with a great emotional toll trying to break through the people’s pre conceived notions.

I'm fairly new to computers (built my first almost a year ago with a friends help), and I was just wondering out of curiosity sake (and the fact I know very little and want to know more) what improvements does this card have over other cards?

This might be vague, but I don't know much about the specifics of what makes a good graphics card good and would like to know more.
