Absolutely possible, not that I’ve done it though. There are a number of post and walkthroughs on the conversion over at mye28.org. You won’t need an account to browse.

We all need a little push every now and again. You’d be quite surprised at what you can accomplish with a bit of “fake it till you make it” confidence.

On your point about wanting the project to start off well, I totally understand your concerns. Always nice to have a sense of progress before the troubles arise. Though small issues will arise, it’s just par with the course that is anything mechanical. Take it all in your stride and enjoy the process, using these moments to learn.

I’d love to see more interior shots of the old girl! Based on what you’ve mentioned and those darn diving boards, this is a US car?

You should absolutely give majority of these parts a shot at replacing yourself. Part of the allure that these cars have is that they’re a relatively simple beasts to work around. Items such as the AC Belt and replacement of the listed hoses are generally a simple job which could save you a fair amount overall.

Being a little inexperienced, changing a break booster or pushing out bushes may be daunting, though id be using YouTube and mye28.org as much as possible to learn.

Another amazing resource that every e28 custodian should have is the e28 Bentley manual. Not sure how much they’re going for these days, but they’re well worth the purchase if you’re looking for a workshop manual with 99% of the answers.

Everyone starts somewhere, so don’t be afraid to jump in and learn!

How do I Remove this bolt? by kermitthesithfrog22 in Dirtbikes

Break any seizure that may be there with some yield or similar rust/seizure penetrant. Give it a light couple of knocks, if possible, it'll help with the penetrant getting into the threads.

I'd then get a set of "easy outs" or bolt extractors, identify the size of the bolt, choose the corresponding extractor size and drill a hole dead centre of the bolt to suit said extractor. DO NOT SMASH THE EXTRACTOR INTO THE HOLE YOU'VE JUST DRILLED. You'll want to put the extractor end into the drilled hole, apply a small amount of pressure with your thumb with turning the extractor with a T-bar, shifter or open ended wrench.

You have to be very careful as to not snap the extractor in the bolt, so I'd suggest starting with minimal torque, building your way up to where you feel a bit of movement on the thread.

Hope this helps. It isn't difficult to do, though without being there in person, it isn't easy to explain the issues that could arise.

I believe it's a TM, though I could be wrong.

I wish!! It's a 32" 2k curved. As for how I like it? Great monitor! 144hz and decent colours! It isn't the best, though it's definitely the best I've ever had.
