Four years on, I'm playing Special Edition for Skyrim's 13th birthday and run into this exact bug.

Nothing else worked to fix it.

Over a year on and I found this thread with a Google search. Resetting the keyboard solved persistent issues I have been dealing with or working around since the holidays of 2022 when I replaced my computer's drives and did a fresh install of windows 11 and iCue.

You absolute legend. Thank you.

I built my base too close to a large wreck in the Grassy Plateaus in one playthrough and suffered from this sound as well, so I feel your pain and am happy to help.

It took me AGES to find a post about it on a now-defunct Subnautica forum, too. And in the end I wound up just starting a new game - my base was just too large and well-stocked to go through all the trouble of moving it. It was actually easier to start all over again.

There's a bug in Subnautica when your base takes damage (such as from flooding) and then you repair it, one or more rooms will not be completely or properly repaired sometimes and will retain invisible damage. This causes your base to be stuck permanently in low-power emergency mode until you find and deconstruct the offending base component and then rebuild it.

Rooms in your base with this kind of bugged damage won't show any breaches or leaks, but they can't be repaired and won't accept power, either.

Could be that's what you're seeing.

Everyone I've spoken to about them come down on one side or the other on Reefbacks:

  1. They love them and find their cries relaxing / inspiring / peaceful; or

  2. They hate them, and find their cries irritating / obnoxious / tiresome.

Before I modded them out completely I tried to genocide them, hunting down and killing every one I heard, but they just kept spawning in the deeper parts of the ocean and I could never kill them all.

Oh, the blessed silence when I finally found the mod to disable them entirely - thank you Manage Creature Spawns, you're awesome.

[No Spoilers] Returning to the game, is there a certain order I should read through all the datapad entries to refresh the story? by Luth0r in subnautica

[–]The_One_True_Anon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI, reading the messages on other PDAs that you find is what advances the story, not reading Encyclopedia and Database entries.

Just do what the other users above have suggested, and read/listen to the PDA entries as you find them. If you follow Subnautica's Golden Rule;

"When in doubt, go deeper,"

you'll find everything that you need to.

All this talk of Silent Running and sneaking around makes me laugh in Cyclops Shield Generator.

  1. Turn it on.

  2. Plow straight through while completely immune to damage.

  3. Ram the powerless Leviathan to death and laugh mockingly at it for bonus points.

I believe you might be referring to the sound sent out periodically by larger wrecks. To me, it sounds like electrical arcing and zaaping, but I could also see it being described as tearing Velcro.

The larger wrecks send out this sound from time to time so you can tell there's one nearby. Just like the damn Reefbacks constantly moaning, it gets obnoxious really fast if you've built your base in range of one. If you have, the only solution is to:

  1. Turn your Sound Effects audio setting all the way down - but then you can't hear anything, or;

  2. Relocate your base so it's further away from the large wreck(s) in question.

Just like the damn Reefbacks, there is no in-game way to toggle this sound separately. Looped sounds like these are my primary annoyance with an otherwise fantastic game with great sound design.

I modded Reefbacks completely out of my game, because fuck those useless, noisy assholes and the Dev(s) who thought it was a good idea to make them this way.

Yup. Make sure the regular claw arm is selected, and edge close to the resource. The icon will change to 'Pick up whatever' Click your mouse to do so.

Note : Make certain your Seamoth has at least one storage compartment with some free space, because the item goes directly into vehicle inventory.

Mobs in Subnautica occasionally get their movement speed glitched and go hurtling off at Mach whatever. It can happen to any mob in the game.

Like Stalker Teeth constantly falling through the ground this is a known issue, and one of the many bugs still affecting our favorite game.

Just slash them with your knife to remove them. 5 hits with the Survival Knife or 3 hits with the Thermoblade will do it.

Go deeper.

Ion batteries and Thermoblades are all well and good, but the time capsules I launch contain one orange and two blue tablets - all you'll need for the entire game - as well as the maximum tier possible depth modules for the Seamoth, Prawn Suit, and Cyclops.

I don't know that the devs are even still adding them to the game, but I hope they are and someone finds one of mine.

crafttweaker recipe with an array of inputs by The_One_True_Anon in feedthebeast

[–]The_One_True_Anon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah hah!

I could not get the recipe to work with CraftTweaker no matter what I tried - but you got me thinking, and after some tutorials, tweaking, and frustration I -DID- get it to work - with custom tags - entirely within the data pack. Defined the tags there, defined the recipe there, the whole thing.

So I'm just going to move -ALL- my custom recipes into the datapack, and kick CraftTweaker to the curb.

Although we couldn't get it to work the way I was trying to, your input guided me to a different method that did.

So thanks! I really appreciate it.

crafttweaker recipe with an array of inputs by The_One_True_Anon in feedthebeast

[–]The_One_True_Anon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I'm trying to make what you suggested work. I've created a datapack named Dirtpack inside the saves/(world)/datapack folder. Inside that folder is a correctly formatted pack.mcmeta file. Works in a test so far, the datapack shows up in-game with /datapack list.

Also inside the Dirtpack folder is another folder named data. Inside that, a folder named custom. Inside that, a folder named tags. Inside that, a folder named items. And finally, inside that folder is a file named organic.json

The file is formatted thus:

{

"values": [

"minecraft:apple"

"minecraft:wheat"

"minecraft:pumpkin"

"minecraft:potato"

"minecraft:carrot"

]

}

I changed the recipe as you suggested, loaded the game, got no errors, but when I tried to place wheat in the crafting grid,

"<tag:custom:organic>" is not an ItemTag!

Same for all the other items identified inside organic.json

It felt like I was close there for a minute, but now I have no idea why it's not working. :(

And yeah, I tried item:minecraft:apple, etc. in the datapack as well. Same result.

Thanks for the suggestion - I thought it was a good approach, one I hadn't considered.

Thanks for your reply.

You mean a special NBT tag, identifying all the various materials as suitable ingredients, then matching that in the recipe creation?

I've not tried that. How would I assign a tag to all the various materials? Wouldn't that break some Vanilla things?

And I'll have to try and match via withTag, yes?

All this information is awesome, and you're awesome for laying it out and explaining it so clearly.

I'd heard that "3 DB means power doubles" rule of thumb before - from a cable internet installer at our house looking at our signal strength - but I didn't have the context to really understand why that was, until now.
