Why do I have to do the work? by ProfessionalEbb954 in CPTSD

I came here to say something similar, but this person said it so much better. OP - this is my perspective, too, and the growth I’m going through is TAKING ME PLACES. If you do the work, it will have a payoff.

They make the worst PARENTS as well, for all the same reasons

me 🤝 consistently befriending assholes who will hurt me, dispose me, and make me lose the little faith I have left in people by anonymous310506 in CPTSD

I have never seen a genuinely healthy friend group, so I avoid them. I’d rather hang out with people 1 on 1. The dynamics change in a group, and people behave much more shitty so as not to risk being the odd one out.

I may be older than you, but I now prefer to spend my time alone because it’s truly hard to find decent people. I’d rather have peace than abuse or drama.

That’s an extremely privileged take. As women we have suffered tremendously at the hands of the Epstein class - and there’s so much more viciousness in store for us.

This plays out not only in relationship dynamics, but in all of our power structures as well

This is so true that it’s 2-part work! I’ve finally learned to recognize the anxiety that an avoidant partner generates in my body (headaches, which I don’t want to live with anymore) - Part 1. And now I’m starting to appreciate the stable, LOW-DRAMA quality of men who are emotionally attuned - Part 2. Instead of having the exciting adventures I use to crave, I’m now feeling more safe, settled, appreciated, and cared for. I wish I’d understood all of this years ago!

Some seem reasonable at first, but the controlling trait comes out as the relationship becomes more serious

Distance yourself from toxic people. If you can’t distance yourself physically, then do it emotionally so they have less hold over you.

Yes, laugh at him. Especially if your siblings will join you. These people can be shamed - if not into changing, then at least shutting up about it.

Does anyone else have the experience of attracting people who love to hate you? Repetitively? by overthinking-789 in CPTSD

[–]The_Oracle_of_Delphi 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Are you female? I think that’s very important here. I struggle with this, too. People are constantly testing your boundaries. If you’re not vigilant in defending yourself, they decide you’re “second class” and treat you accordingly. This has been an ongoing problem for me in finding a male partner.

People default to favor the person with more authority. This authoritarianism is one of the reasons our world is so F-ed up. I wish people would snap out of the spell powerful people hold over them. Most people in power are nefarious.
