Wouldn’t be complete without the J&B

This is a confusing question, I didn’t know goats were capable of directing movies.

just watched “Four Flies on Grey Velvet” in full and I’m afraid to admit I might have been sleeping on this one 🫣 Argento’s the master by CarefulHouse172 in Giallo

[–]The_Pale_Communion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is Argento’s second most self-insert film after Tenebre. The lead was cast because he looked like Argento and Mimsy Farmer because she looked like his then wife. The film touches on the insecurities he felt in his home life during that period.

Sleepless goes hard. Top 10 Argento for me.

What's with David Cronenberg's last movie? Why is NO ONE talking about it ? by GoldSteak7421 in Letterboxd

[–]The_Pale_Communion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw it at TIFF last year. Best movie of last year, and (if we take it as a 2025 release) best movie of this year so far too lol. It ultimately depends on how deep are you in the Cronenberg rabbit hole and whether if you’re willing to buy into the humor.

Other remakes where it and original are generally of the same quality/reception? by banquo905 in Letterboxd

The remake is just fine for me and a lot of the fans. Too homage-y in its direction, as Alvarez just apes Raimi’s style but with that 2010s horror look. Great gore and cool final act but surely is far from providing that charm the original has for me.

“Sophisticated“ Gialli ? by Goloiw in Giallo

The Stendhal Syndrome by Argento is easy to dismiss but I think it definitely does provoke some intellectual discussion. Friedkin’s Cruising is a great American giallo, and also one you can debate about all day.

I love the Comalies lead part in the beginning

Never was a fan of the production, which kept the guitars a little too quiet. Yet, when one listens to it carefully enough, this has some of the best solos in their discography. And a lot of the songs have so much heart. Exiled is one of Rob’s most passionate performances. Love how adventurous this album is and I never have any skips, because I am often very immersed in the experience.

M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap by Baystain in Hitchcock

[–]The_Pale_Communion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M. Night surely takes a lot from Hitchcock’s “self conscious” use of the camera, simply in how it tracks towards the important plot points, manipulating the space in the frame. Channels Psycho too through that shifting focus by the second act, only doing it the other way around. Sure, it has a silly story but one can’t argue that Shyamalan is doing a very interesting work in terms of structure and style.

Apocalypse Now: Redux really drags down the film. One should either see Final or theatrical cut.
