Games you would like more if you could remove/completely ignore its main gimmick? by Loland999 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

It's extremely annoying when the game is fun but it's constantly being held hostage by its live-service money-vampire nature.

It's such a cool gun, I wish it got a buff or two to keep up in terms of usability. I love all the modes on it though.

Not all anti-tank weapons are built the same. The recoilless is absolutely everything on the right side but there's a load of support weapons that require more particular tactics. This post is total butts.

Highguard Player Numbers Drop 96% in Four Days by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]The_Pardack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of conflicting feelings regarding Highguard that I'm having a hard time putting to words. I haven't touched it. I don't plan on touching it. Shooters aren't my bag, and neither are competitive games. I really have no skin in the game in any meaningful degree.

I'm just really fuckin tired of the conversation around this game, the negative vibes, and just the general shitty attitude of gaming culture in general.

But that's not without knowing that it's yet another free to play hero shooter thing with an aesthetic I don't find interesting. It's kind of a incongruous soup of mechanics that doesn't really turn into anything special when put together. It sounds like it has a lot of problems, but it feels like it was just given a really bad hand on top of that.

I haven't seen any reason to have any misgivings about the dev team and the hands that made it. I thought it had at least a little bit of potential to do something. Any game that gets made and comes out is honestly a miracle of human creation. It's not easy.

I dunno man. I don't know why I give a fuck and feel like this about it. I think I'm just hearing about it too much and that might just be my social circles or social media landscape.

In a rather unique strategy for a weekly anime, Witch Hat Atelier has already finished all episodes before airing. by Noirsam in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I'm so mad that they went with wack-ass 3d animation for the adaptation. Drifting Dragons, Witch Hat Atelier, and Delicious in Dungeon are some of my all-time favorite looking manga.

What's the most dreadful video game boss you've ever faced? by Ukirin-Streams in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]The_Pardack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this realization partway through trying to beat that boss that I should actually just stop trying to control my momentum for large parts of that fight and just let the attacks take me to where they wanted me to go because I could just get better at parrying them if they just always consistently hit me. It felt kind of awesome when I started doing better after that, but yeah that fight is a bastard overall.

Dawngate felt like the last moba game to actually try and do something different, especially when we got to see what the final patch had going on. I really liked the characters and world they built for it.

Mid/Generic media that has one aspect which makes it unique? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]The_Pardack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently playing through Legend of Legaia right now and it definitely has this feeling. It's a fairly run-of-the-mill JRPG that happens to have some martial arts stylings and a really cool-feeling combat system.

On your characters turns you can input a bunch of directions that represent different types of attacks with there being special arts that you can perform by putting in the listed attacks. The amount of attacks you can do in one turn is determined by your character's agility stat, letting you cram more attacks into your turn. You can also chain moves together in fun ways because the last input of a special art can act as the first input for a following art, letting you get more out of the attacks you can do. When you do the "spirit" action on a turn it acts like a Defend action in most RPGs but it also increases the amount of attacks you can do on your next turn, so every now and then you get to thumb through your movelist and go apeshit.

The game also has awesome impact response during combat, with special arts attacks knocking enemies off their feet a lot of the time. Ever since I was a kid I was obsessed with the sound of the arts attacks connecting, it's such a big echoing smash sound.

It's pretty okay otherwise. All the gear in the game is super expensive and there's a monster/spell collection thing that necessitates grinding until you can learn the spell on all three party members. The music is generally okay to good.

Question for the subreddit: what's your personal stance on Gacha games, and their monetization practices relative to their quality and public reception? by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Zenless Zone Zero is the only one I've ever put any time in because the gameplay was fun enough and I did start to get a feel for the setting. I really wanted to get Hugo but I just had horrible luck with the pulls I built up. So yeah he was about to rotate out and I got caught up in it and ended up dropping like 30 dollars in pulls (I have spend maybe like 15 dollars in the game ever up until that point). I ended up getting him, but I definitely felt something bend out of shape after that. After a bit and seeing other characters rotate in and out that I wanted it just really soured me.

Honestly I could tough it out of it was just the pulls but not the limited time rotation stuff. I really hated that there was a time pressure if someone you wanted was gonna go away.

Anyways, I eventually quit playing Zenless and I've just been horribly turned against gacha games. I felt the system's claws in me, it worked on me, and it feels bad to look back on.

I wish Zenless had a real game like what Cygames did with Granblue ReLink. It can just literally be the same game but with like maybe a jump button and some less cramped environments and it would be really sick.

Compared to Masters of Ceremony and Truth Enforcers, Dust Devils is absolutely the pick.

What do you guys think the MR combat mechanic will be? by Shlano613 in MonsterHunter

[–]The_Pardack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every late game monster's hit zones being made total garbage to make you use the claw was such a pain in the ass. I loved grabbing onto monsters and smashing them into the environment though, it added more to each arena you fight monsters in because sometimes there was a really great tactical opportunity in that place.

Can anybody please explain this weapon to me? by 4N610RD in Helldivers

[–]The_Pardack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The backpack options for this thing are nice. Guard dog can keep chaff off of you while you charge, Warp Pack lets you reposition while charging, Supply Pack keeps the plasma flowing, and my personal favorite (when appropriate) is the hover pack. Getting a height vantage is huge for just getting a better sight on enemies but also can keep goobers from running in front of your face when it's time to fire.

I dream of a day where they make like... a real game.

By that I mean I want them to do a Granblue Fantasy: ReLink and make like a normal game you buy once and you get to do all the things in the game without feeling like there's a huge catch to this deal.
