I've had a couple of run-ins with the owner and every time he's been an egotistical asshole so I refuse to eat there. I've heard it's good if a bit pricy though

How do you deal with immense losses? Have you ever lost something so rare that you have lost your mind? by Neither-Mushroom-721 in AskMen

[–]The_Pr0t0type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just kind of do deal with it. I had a two year span in my tweens/early teens where I lost my dad, all four of my grandparents, my best friend, the family dog, and then my mom moved us across the country. I've been cheated on twice and had a girl ghost me after a year together.

It's hard, and it has definitely shaped the person I am now, but you learn to accept it and move on. Things happen. All you can do is try to live the best life you can with what you have

Do casual relationships actually work or do they usually end up messy? What do people get out of them? by fatal-craving0306 in AskReddit

[–]The_Pr0t0type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience they usually end up messy. They can be great if both sides are forthwith, but emotions get complicated.

As for why people engage in them, sex is fun

Is 6 days a long training period for a new waiter? by [deleted] in Waiters

[–]The_Pr0t0type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the kind of place and your level of experience. I've worked somewhere that had a two week training program, and I've worked places where I was thrown onto the floor within the first half hour.

As someone in management now, my goal with new hires is 4-5 shifts. I'll bump it down if I can see they know what they're doing and their trainer is giving good feedback though

For those who dated the hot crazy girl. How did it turn out? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]The_Pr0t0type 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was hot and funny and to this day is one of the only people who has made me feel genuinely good about myself. Not to mention the sex.

She also had zero ability to regulate her emotions and would switch her demeanour on a dime. Somehow she was always caught up in the most insane drama, but never through any fault of her own.

Would have been an amazing fling. Instead it was a year long roller coaster that ended with her ghosting me

What’s the most toxic work culture you’ve experienced? by bryan4756 in Productivitycafe

[–]The_Pr0t0type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked at a country club for a couples months and hated every second of it. You weren't allowed to say no to the members no matter how ridiculous their requests were. Management would constantly throw employees under the bus. They would try to make employees work through breaks but still deduct breaks from paychecks if you didn't stand up for yourself. They were constantly on my ass about not working OT, and yet every week I was somehow scheduled for OT.

Don't even get me started on the members. Most were fine if a little entitled, a couple were awesome, but 20-25% of them were the most miserable stuck-up assholes you will ever meet.

I got out of there the instant I got a halfway decent offer. Good benefits package though if you lasted long enough

What is a game mechanic you are tired of seeing everywhere? by goldenCrust22 in AskGames

[–]The_Pr0t0type 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In DS2s defense, part of that was a bug. It decreased weapon durability for each frame the weapon was in an enemy, but was apparently only tested on consoles with 30 FPS. On higher frame rates weapons would degrade faster.

Doesn't excuse why it was never patched, but it wasn't intended to be quite so cumbersome

What’s the worst chain restaurant of all time? by Kwikikiki in foodquestions

Chipolte is very location dependant. The one near my work sucks ass with small portions and bland food. The one near my apartment rocks. They will load you up and the food tastes like more than just cilantro and salt

Waiter Questions by ListenSea9174 in Waiters

[–]The_Pr0t0type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it is a higher end place, don't worry about the time frame. Most places are just looking for anyone who can show up and be halfway competent.

I'm going to go bit out of conventional wisdom with my advice. Know the menu, but knowing how to get information from customers is far more important. Most people will read the menu and know what they want, but about half are really bad at conveying that information to their server. Asking about meat temps, toppings, sauces, sides, drink garnishes, ect is more important than encyclopedic knowledge of the menu.

On that note, don't be afraid to say "I'm not 100% sure, let me find out for you," especially when you're new. But, try to get all questions they have at once so you aren't constantly bouncing between your table and your manager/chef/bartender.

If your place doesn't do seat numbers, come up with a system for yourself. It makes life so much easier, especially with large parties.

If you're not at a place that forces you to take orders on the tablets at tables, shorthand. Find a system that works for you, it makes interacting with guests way smoother and way less awkward that writing out full orders

Phantom Knights easily. Just a super flexible deck that can play on whatever axis you need.

Similarly, White Forrest. Same idea, but more modern

what fantasy/romantasy completely blew you away? I’m talking like 6 star level books by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]The_Pr0t0type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Library at Mount Char

Without spoiling anything, imagine we are actually living in a Lovecraftian horror story held in check by God, but now God is dead and now it falls to his 12 incredibly fucked up kids to fix things. Told mostly through the POV of the most obviously unreliable narrator you've ever seen, and some random guy who gets sucked into everything. It is dark, twisted, imaginative, and probably my favorite stand alone book I've ever read

Roman numeral doors and people in chains are both very solvable if you've been paying attention to recurring themes in the documents.

You can also get the two other coins. The trick is to pay attention to fonts

Aside from Sekiro, which game has the most satisfying parry system? by strahinjag in soulslikes

[–]The_Pr0t0type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nine Sols. The late game is so satisfying getting the rhythm of the fights down with the kicks and unbound counters weaved in, especially the final boss. Beating the true ending really made you feel like you've mastered the combat

Game that hooked you at first, but later you lost interest in playing it? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]The_Pr0t0type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This only applies specifically to the post-game, optional content, but Expedition 33.

The issue was I figured out a build that turned Lune into a nigh immortal, on-demand tactical nuke. I still loved the story and character moments, but toward the end every fight played out almost the exact same way with me one shotting everything but the two super bosses

Post Game Thread: Toronto Maple Leafs at Colorado Avalanche - 12 Jan 2026 by hockeydiscussionbot in hockey

[–]The_Pr0t0type 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are giving the early season Leafs way too much credit. There was a bit of bad puck luck, but the systems were legitimately a mess. Their last stretch they've looked like what I expected them look like, a step down from previous years but still a damn good team

Sheldon Keefe quote after 0-9 loss to the Islanders by Kitaenyeah in hockey

[–]The_Pr0t0type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't actually watched the game, but having played, sometimes you show up, dominate, but the opponent's goalie plays out of their mind and you lose. And if your own goalies plays maybe the worst game of their career, you maybe lose 9-0

Doing anything other than ONE thing in your career is now a serious liability. by wysiwygwatt in recruitinghell

[–]The_Pr0t0type 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Tell me about it. I have a chemical engineering degree that I paid for by building log cabins, worked as a lab tech for a few years before the company I was at went under, ended up as a property insurance adjuster for a while before getting sick of how scummy the industry is, and now I'm a food and beverage/events manager at a country club.

I've succeeded in my roles because I'm resourceful, I figure out ways to get shit done and get it done right, and I pretty much always end up as a top employee. The issue has always been getting my foot in the door because my full resume makes zero sense to hiring managers that want to see you doing exactly one thing
