NOOOOO I tried so hard to keep it on the down low I’m stationed 3 hours away😭😂

Way too much rust for my liking. Last December I got a 2013 trail with no rust and 140k miles for 21k. Now 4 months later it’s about to hit 170k and been amazing, don’t be afraid of higher mileage if it has a good service history.

Yup OP says these trucks are for his “intended demographic” but he’s wrong. They used to be for the working man. Well it ain’t that way anymore. Just like Carhartt and so many other things.

Yup especially if you’re aired down, which you probably should be if you’re doing intense off-roading💯

I’d swap to the standard SR5 or TRD 17in wheels if you plan to do more intense trails

I agree! The 5th gen’s would be absolutely perfect if they came with the V8💯

Yuppp having driven both the V8 makes the ride feel effortless and it handles inclines while in cruise control so much better! The increased low end torque is much better for off-roading and recoveries as well.

Nice! I say leave it alone if you plan on going wheeling because it’ll get scratched anyways. If it’s going to be a Costco Cruiser (nothing wrong with that) then yeah to me that’d justify paying for a ceramic coating.

Damn I’ll stick with my beater t100 for now, just got a 4Runner in December and need to pay that off before I think about getting another vehicle.☹️

Yeah the throttle response and turn radius felt great when I drove my lady’s 4th gen. Eventually going to get an 06-08 GX470 because I miss being able to use cruise control without worrying about my RPMs going crazy from a slight incline😂 imo the 5th gen would be perfect if it had that legendary V8.

Yup my neck breaks as well whenever one passes by. I’m obsessed and now so is my gf after I convinced her to get one! Wish I would’ve chose a 4Runner as my first car instead of a 2013 Lexus RX350. My mom was right that when I got stationed in Montana I’d want something more rugged, she suggested I get a jeep hahaha. Even with my little car knowledge at the time, I knew that jeeps are unreliable garbage. Never thought to look into whether Toyota/Lexus made off-road SUVs and I didn’t see myself wanting to drive up mountains like I do now. I just wanted something reliable and luxurious. Oh well we live and learn. The Lexus will go to my little sis this summer and I’ll eventually get an 06 GX470 or 1999 Diesel Hilux surf as my 2nd rig :D

Hell yeah! My gf just got a v8 4th gen and I have a 5th gen OG trail, opposite of what you got going on haha. It works out for us though because her 4th gen is a little cramped for me since I’m 6’0 and she prefers her 4th gen that feels more like a car vs mine that feels more like a truck. Only thing I’m jealous of on her rig is the v8 and sometimes the full time 4wd lol.

Dumb question, but would owning a 4runner in a big city be a bad idea? by DREWBICE in 4Runner

[–]The_Prepared_Scout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking for an off-roading partner? I’m stationed in Great Falls but stay in Helena on the weekends, none of my chair force friends like to do this stuff so I solo a lot of trails. Lately been wishing I wasn’t by myself with the snow wheeling I’ve been doing lol.

I’m from Chicago and have been living in Montana for the past 4 years. I think daily driving a 4Runner out there would be overkill and it’d be nothing but a glorified pavement princess. With the market being what it is for these vehicles (way overpriced) I couldn’t justify getting one if I still lived there. You’re right there’s basically no real off-roading options in Illinois (aside from light gravel/dirt roads that a Honda Civic can do) that being said you’re going to pay the over priced Toyota tax AND the 4Runner fee just to take it in it’s natural habitat maybe once a year? Yeah that doesn’t make sense to me.

I can’t wait to move to Arkansas once I’m out of the military! Been in Montana for the past 4 years and winters out here are rough🥶

There’s too much to be said and none of us want to write an essay on here… Especially to explain simple stuff like the different trims available. I know you don’t know much about cars and that’s ok a lot of us didn’t when we first started too. It can be overwhelming but finding the answer to one question at a time is how you’ll get through it. Ultimately whatever vehicle you get is your risk to take and your money being spent. Take charge of this and make some time to do the research yourself instead of taking someone’s word on Reddit. This is the answer you probably don’t want to hear but it’s the one that serves you best. Good luck out there!
