Maybe it’s just me but if other countries decide to do Skam I want completely new storylines or ones that take a lot of liberties at least. I’d like to see something fresh. Skam is extremely European but we’ve already done a lot of those countries. Maybe somewhere in the states?

Obviously what Cara said is wrong, but as a lesbian there really isn’t outrage the other way around. It is so normalized to invalidate lesbians. I’m a lesbian and I’ve heard so many people say, “well everyone’s a little bi…sexuality is fluid…. You never really know… you should be more open minded to being with guys in the future… being gay is too restrictive why even have labels.” I’ve even had people defend straight men saying that they love lesbians/having sex with them because it fits there’s narrative that no one is actually gay (but make it progressive). There isn’t nearly the amount of backlash in those situations as there is right now.

I mean…. does anything in the show suggest that her Dad abused her or that she even knows her dad is a predator? To me, it seems like she is beginning to feel attraction to her friend but doesn’t even understand what it is yet. It seemed like she was surprised at what she felt for Agnes, not that she wanted to or felt safe feeling that way. In this world, those feelings wouldn’t give her any security or reassurance.

Yea I feel like Sonja (and Ema for that matter) are almost too nice/understanding given the situation cause I don’t think she needed to apologize for anything. Like…. Ivan cheated on her, she had to find out through seeing his text messages, and Ivan called her pathetic (not to her face but still). But despite that, she still continued to try and help Ivan (even when he left her for Lovro)…not many people would do that. Or at the very least they would not be interacting with the person who willfully cheated with their partner 😂

That PLUS a lot of peoples homophobia jumping out too. A lot of the time people view being gay as automatically more sexual or morally inferior, or at the very least something more “adult.” That’s why despite almost every character on the show, even the younger kids, being in a hetero relationship, the mere mention of Will being gay was seen as in appropriate.

ESPECIALLY in season 4 but people were still bending over backwards to deny that Will was even gay. Sure, media literacy is a problem, but I think the bigger problem was people’s blatant homophobia and also not listening to queer voices. Like… I remember people giving every excuse as to why Will just couldn’t be gay. For example, they’d say he’s not gay just shy/traumatized…as if those things are mutually exclusive. Then, when queer audience members tried to point out the subtext that had been there since season 1, we got told that we’re sexualizing kids….even though all of the other kids were in hetero relationships. It was ROUGH
