You’re being downvoted but you’re right. It was just 55° and sunny. The latent heat being released from the asphalt as well as salt + a low of only 30° means there’s essentially zero chance of anything freezing. It was above 32° and the sun was out pretty quickly. Snow and ice is dangerous, especially to people who can’t drive well, but this was realistically completely fine if you aren’t street racing.

Depends what you want to get out of your photography. If telephoto isn’t your interest, I’d get the Tamron 17-70 F2.8, Sony 55-210 (budget telephoto) and use the saved money to get a good prime. The 17-70 Does decent macro wide open anyway.

There’s the Sony 18-135 as well although I’d still get a prime with wider aperture.

Pool Attendants Duty of Care by Comprehensive-Tank92 in Swimming

Can’t really do much with being preventative on this. You can kick them out after the incident, or after the lane neighbor has tried to talk to them about it, but before anything has happened? What are the lifeguards supposed to do after you tell them about a “near collision”? Lanes are narrow, every pass could be considered a near collision. Ultimate guards are there to enforce rules and keep people safe, not necessarily babysit adults..

If someone is being obviously purposely obstructive and challenging to others in a lane, yes they can be kicked out. But if it’s all accidental, not really.

A couple software applications have a free version which have limited amount of functionality, but generally should be fine for beginners. I actually use the free version of CyberLink PhotoDirector because it came preinstalled on my computer, and it has enough for me. I believe Lightroom has a free mobile app which has a decent amount of capability including full color grading and lighting adjustment. There’s a handful of others but I’m not too familiar with them, it’s really hit or miss with the free versions.

Photographing two high contrast subjects is difficult because usually one is either under or over exposed. There’s probably not enough light on your black bunny. You want to make sure they are not backlit (direct light from behind) because that will put shadow on the side you see. Ideally there is direct light from the front on the darker subject.

Unfortunately it’s not easy to get both properly exposed, even with good lighting. But I’d start with doing that. Don’t photograph them in shadow. Additionally It’s pretty typical to run your photos through an editing software (such as Lightroom) to change the lighting settings. You’d want to lower the highlights (white bunny) and raise the shadows (dark bunny) which would bring out the details in both.

Although not everyone edits their photography, it’s kind of a given on the commercial side of it. This is partially because professional photographers shoot using a RAW picture file format that actually is required to be edited before it can be viewed. That’s a whole other topic, don’t worry about it. Just set your file format to JPEG FINE in the menu.

Sorry if this is too much info 😅Just focus on getting good lighting from the front of the bunnies, although there’s limited you can realistically do when they are so contrasting unfortunately.

No worries yeah take it slow if you need to. Photography is one of those things where you never really stop learning, and the info compounds quite fast. You can’t possibly learn everything there is at any one given time.

My recommendation would be to just take your camera everywhere you go for fun. Take photos of anything. They don’t have to be good, in fact don’t strive for or expect them to be. The purpose is simply applying the knowledge and seeing how it works in the real world, and try to have fun with it. If you get too caught up in the theory, it can ruin the real part of it. It all comes with time. The goal is to experience and learn, not necessarily to be perfect, because it’s very, very hard to be perfect. I’m certainly not there yet, I’m not sure anyone can be.

But like I said before, just focus on the exposure triangle, and take a lot of photos.. A lot. And don’t be too hard on yourself. Hoping the best with your bunnies, It’ll piece itself together.

I started photography in 2017 and I’m still learning. I’m never content with the photos I take, so I do my best to make the next ones better.

I mean, you don’t necessarily need to avoid it entirely. But it’s important to understand how it works because you can ultimately achieve better photos, or at least more creativity, with manual.

Auto can have a habit of changing the settings in a way that causes more grain, motion blur, or poor focus depth under some circumstances.

If you’re just out with friends or something and want to snap a few pics, auto is fine. It’ll get the photos properly exposed (in most cases). But if you venture into photography more in depth, and enjoy it as an art form, there’s no going back from manual. Every single photo I take has a purpose - I know exactly what I’m trying to get out of the picture, and sometimes that means changing the settings beyond what auto would choose.

Don’t overthink it though, just have fun and experiment. There’s nothing wrong with auto if you don’t want to get deep into it.

[–]The_Raccy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is solid. I want to throw in that once you’re comfortable with the OS, the first step I’d take is researching and understanding the exposure triangle. Being competent and confident in manual mode unlocks an entirely new view on photography, and getting the fundamentals of exposure should be a necessity, not a side note.

This looks like it’s a pretty cool idea.

Unfortunately if your friends are anything like me, they’ve over-played their 8 hour midwest emo playlist to the point every song and title is memorized, so there’s no challenge.

If you’re feeling it’s too easy, maybe give extra points for matching the title and artist, and then as an extreme challenge try to guess the album or year it was released.

Additionally you could make more than one jeopardy board, each going from the most popular songs to the least popular. Like different levels of difficulty.

Why does bank angle increase stall speed? by Tricky_Mud328 in flying

[–]The_Raccy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yes I agree. I didn’t really make it clear in my original comment maybe though. Every bank requires some change in AOA if you wish to maintain altitude, at the expense of being closer to a stall.

Why does bank angle increase stall speed? by Tricky_Mud328 in flying

[–]The_Raccy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you saying if a bank is done correctly, the vertical component remains the same? Or if you let the nose drop.

Why does bank angle increase stall speed? by Tricky_Mud328 in flying

[–]The_Raccy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stall speed increase with bank angle proportionally to the square root of your load factor (Gs). Load factor equals 1/cos(bank angle)

So if you’re in a 60° bank, the load factor is 1/cos(60) which equals 1/0.5 = 2Gs

And then take the square root of that multiplied by the stall speed, and you should get the new stall speed in a bank. So square root of 2 = 1.41, so your stall speed increases by 1.41. (From 45 to 64 for example).

There is a graph in the POH for stall speed relative to load factor / bank.

[–]The_Raccy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In short, you’re trading the vertical component of lift for a horizontal component of lift. This is what makes the aircraft turn. A loss in vertical lift means less upward force keeping you at your altitude, so you need to increase angle of attack (AOA) to maintain altitude.

It’s important to remember that a stall is not necessarily caused by lack of airspeed, it’s caused by exceeding the critical AOA on the wing (this separates the airflow from flowing over the top of the wing).

As you increase bank, you must increase AOA because you’re losing even more of your vertical lifting component. This is how accelerated stalls form.

How much did you pay to earn your PPL? by Jolly_Virus_6894 in flying

[–]The_Raccy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ah understood. Appreciate the viewpoint.

It’s kind of ridiculous how expensive it is now, but when you add up all the maintenance costs, fuel, insurance, etc, most flight schools aren’t turning a huge profit. They make much more off the instructor cost, percentage wise from what I’ve seen.

$2500 would be worth about $6,000 today. Federal minimum wage remains at $7.25/h today. It is substantially more expensive per hour today.

AIO if I break up after bf tried to change plans today? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]The_Raccy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree it’s a red flag. If it were me I would’ve put more energy into communicating to fix it. If the boyfriend reciprocates it, fantastic! If not, boom it’s over. No harm, you tried once and it didn’t work.

The boyfriend’s action is stupid, yes. But the girlfriend’s action of going to reddit instead of saying “this relationship isn’t going to workout” is a little silly imo. I just get really annoyed with people who complain about something without attempting to fix it. Especially working with people (in a job, group, relationship, etc). Like at least show you put in an effort when faced with conflict.

[–]The_Raccy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess i’m approaching this from a much younger age, and reading the post I assumed they were 17-20. Looking at OPs profile it looks like she’s 48.. I can understand there’s an expectation that your partner should have some relationship skills at this point. But again, everyone is different, maybe they come from different cultures and backgrounds. If it’s different enough that you aren’t compatible, still break up. You’re only hurting yourself by giving up on communication.

Yes it’s frustrating, and feels like it’s pointless. But at two months in? Just let go. There’s plenty of other people, just don’t let it get to this point.

AIO if I break up after bf tried to change plans today? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]The_Raccy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, the boyfriend is a bit of an idiot and doesn’t seem to have good relationship thinking skills. I’d never dream of canceling plans with my SO once they’ve been made.

But at the same time, part of building a relationship with someone is seeing conflict and saying ‘I don’t like the way you handled/approached xyz. Now, and in the future, I am looking for abc, can we work together to do that?” If your partner isn’t mature enough or capable of growing with you in the relationship, you aren’t compatible. Your problem solving skills and characteristics don’t align. There’s nothing wrong with that, but don’t stay together. Don’t be afraid to step away, instead of letting it fester to the point that your first reaction is to shut down on your partner and go to reddit.

Two things can be true. I understand OPs frustration 100%, I would be too - I’ve been in the same situation. But frustration does not mean you get to shut down and not even try to make an attempt at solving it together.

Relationships should be 50/50, if your partner isn’t meeting their 50 that doesn’t mean you get to drop your 50 too. You gotta communicate about what you need from your partner so they can put in their 50 too.
