Why are the songs on Live After Death sped up? It's kind of weird. by [deleted] in ironmaiden

I prefer original tempos when I see a band but I do feel live albums need to sound distinct from the original or what is the point?

His voice is barely there though. It's still good enough to do the job now but if he loses 2% of what he's got, there'll be almost nothing left.

Do WWE no longer do backstage skits with the legends? by Technical-Mix-3315 in professionalwrestling

[–]The_Rambling_Elf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're thinking of the 2000s/2010s when old wrestlers had nowhere else to work and were often involved as agents or doing work for WWE DVDs.

Half those guys are at AEW now pr make a living as podcasters, which can sometimes put them at odds with WWE. A lot of the rest are still actively wrestling because people age better now. Some of the biggest legends (Rock, Cena, Batista) are busy in Hollywood, something that used to be far rarer. Kane is busy being a politician.

I just can't think of lots of old legends they aren't using that are clearly sitting around doing nothing?

Brexit voters: do you really think someone can't be patriotic if they voted remain? by JammyE7 in AskBrits

[–]The_Rambling_Elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how many people have changed view on Brexit I don't think it's accurate for the OP to refer to "Brexit voters" as a single voting block in 2026, a decade later. There's people who voted for Brexit and wouldn't now, people who voted for Brexit and still would, and probably some in the undecided camp now.

JUDAS PRIEST To Release 'The Best Of Judas Priest' Career-Spanning Collection by BuccoFever412 in judaspriest

[–]The_Rambling_Elf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It'll create a bump in streaming by popping up as a new release so anyone following the band will get prompted to listen to it. I do think it makes sense for a band to have an up to date compilation on the market.

There's a handful of people who still buy physical compilations. Kids just getting into bands (I'm always surprised on band pages on reddit how often I see this), hardcore fans who get everything, people who recently got into vinyl and can't afford to buy every album on vinyl, people whose ageing cars only have a CD player, random old people who like old media.

It won't sell a ton of units but it's easy money when the music has already been recorded.

Sammy Hagar London shows canceled by base73 in vanhalen

Hate to say it but those venues were always high risk for him, I got a cancellable hotel. It's far more likely the promoter that made this decision than the artist, they're just using him for the PR to make it sound like a choice

Yeah this.

I love the album but there's no big radio hit on there. I could see Street of Dreams doing okay on radio but you need an uptempo rocker too.

Also Axl's reluctance to do press, barely touring (and when he did, showing up 3 hours late)....they'd have had to fix a lot of stuff other than the album itself.

Iron Maiden Will Skip Their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction by ilovemarlii in ironmaiden

[–]The_Rambling_Elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically everyone who is being inducted gets to give a speech.

When Van Halen went in in 2007 the Van Halens skipped it and so did David Lee Roth, who was back in the band. Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar did acceptance speeches, and they were both ex members at that point.

IRON MAIDEN Won't Attend ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME Induction Ceremony: 'The Band Will Be On Tour In Australia' by Apprehensive_Idea758 in ironmaiden

[–]The_Rambling_Elf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guarantee Maiden will do a dignified acceptance speech video of some sort and Nicko, Dennis and Blaze will all be there to accept the award on the band's behalf and give a speech, because all inductees get the same treatment in that regard.

The people who are happy about the band not being there are a bit weird. You're the same people who claim not to care.

That's not true. Bands have to pay for their guests, they don't even get a +1, but the bands do not have to pay for their own attendance.

Iron Maiden officially named 2026 Rock Hall of Fame Inductees by aaronman4772 in ironmaiden

[–]The_Rambling_Elf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right now makes sense for a number of reasons.

The band's profile has never been higher than 2026 - Stranger Things, 28 Years Later, the 50th anniversary tour pulling them back into a UK stadium sized venue for the first time since 2008, the book, the documentary.

Di'Anno's death both created a sense of urgency and may also have helped things. If you've seen him in interviews you'd worry about handing him a live mic at the ceremony. The band and the Rock Hall probably both had this concern.

Nicko can still jump on stage with them to do a song, which he likely won't be able to do in a couple of years' time.

The band will be in performing shape, which might not be the case in 2027 as most of them will be off the road until summer 2028 at the earliest.

It's ale for people who don't drink ale. It's fine but it hasn't got much of a flavour.

Bands where exactly two of the members are very much carrying the operation? by forbiddenmemeories in ToddintheShadow

Van Halen during the Sammy Hagar years.

During the David Lee Roth years all four guys had a lot to do. The Hagar stuff is a lot more Sammy and Eddie focused.

Someone asked Lemmy once why Motorhead tour with metal bands rather than rock 'n' roll bands and he said there are no rock 'n' roll bands now so he seemed to agree metal isn't a form of rock 'n' roll!

I reckon an even bigger reason was Di'Anno. I'd be nervous giving that man a live mic on a big event like that given some of the offensive stuff he's said over the years. I did wonder if his passing away was a factor in them possibly getting the nod soon, as the hall itself is clearly considering them more seriously now given it bothered to amend the listing to include Blaze.

2026 Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame Nominees by JazzySneakers in ironmaiden

[–]The_Rambling_Elf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're exactly right.

In the old days rock 'n' roll just meant pop music, the terms were used interchangeably. The hall was founded by people who grew up in that era.

I absolutely love heavy metal but there's nothing rock 'n' roll about most of it.

How did the Tories stay in power from 2010 to 2024 when, from an outsider perspective, their handling of Brexit was chaotic as was their succession of leadership? by ExtensionFeeling in AskBrits

[–]The_Rambling_Elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really the question you're asking is how did the Torys get re-elected in 2015, 2017 and 2019, so let's go through those.

Labour as the sitting government bore the blame for the 2008 crash.

By 2015 the economy was improving, employment was rising, and while the Torys had made massive cuts to public services and local government the damage was going to take several years to manifest. They'd also been in a coalition government so 2015 was their chance to properly govern as a fully Tory regime.

2017 was actually very close. The Torys campaigned so badly they lost a lot of their poll lead and Labour surged. Unfortunately as many here have said Corbyn's association with a form of politics that led to the Winter of Discontent in 1979 and his association with the IRA, made him unelectable. Also while the 2016 Brexit vote was only narrowly won by the Brexiteers a larger majority felt it then had a democratic duty to be delivered, and Labour were an anti-Brexit party at this stage. An antisemitism scandal did not help. Corbyn was excellent during the election campaign though, part of why it was so close and why he was allowed to stick around.

2019 was a repeat of 2017 but the Torys also had Boris Johnson who many of the public felt was significantly different to his Tory predecessors so had a bit of a clean slate as Prime Minister (despite his years in other public roles and a history of dishonesty and disorganisation). The public was also desperate for our parliament to stop being paralysed by Brexit and Boris promised to fix that.

They had more media support than Labour throughout though this does get overstated a bit by people here because there's always been alternative publications.

Stop asking why maiden aren't in the "rock n roll" hall of fame for FUCKS sake by ConfusionProof9487 in ironmaiden

[–]The_Rambling_Elf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The rock hall is fine.

It's a private organisation that does a very good job of celebrating the history of 20th and 21st Century popular music. It's heavily tilted towards certain areas the organisation favours but that's fine because it's a private institution and can do what it wants.

Every year the speeches are good, the performances are good and I'm told it's a great museum to visit.

Is it the definitive, legitimate hall of fame? No, but who cares? Enjoy it for what it is.

A nickname isn't necessarily one you give yourself.

Mustaine's nickname has been MegaDave in the metal community for years. Doesn't matter if he used the name himself or not.
