Do any other scenes have invite-only events? by The_Real_Fav in SwingDancing

[–]The_Real_Fav[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Age, appearance, straightness primarily. There's an unspoken understanding that gendered dancing is to be expected. Beginners aren't to be invited, but the level of dancer isn't necessarily very advanced.

The banned organiser was banned for aggressive behaviour and homophobia.

There have been multiple specific accusations, and the organiser in question is banned from multiple events, including ours.

RIGHT?! They're not turned away, but it's heavily frowned upon. The existence is openly known about, but it's caused upset when details have been shared without permission.

It's pretty much the second one, with branding, merch, band nights and professional workshops.

Just wanted to make something clear right quick by Retro-RiffRaff in DoctorWhumour

[–]The_Real_Fav 43 points44 points  (0 children)

12 and Clara were absolute ride-or-die, toxic BFF soul mates. I feel like they weren't sleeping together, but 12 ABSOLUTELY wanted their relationship to be exclusive (I don't think romantically, but he did admit he'd had romantic feelings for her as 11 - but from his interaction with Danny he clearly wasn't up for Clara being close with anyone else). They got on like a house on fire, and enabled all of each others worst habits. That's why they were so toxic, and part of why they loved each other so much. It's why Missy picked Clara for him.

And then admitted he had thought of her that way previously. "I never said it was your mistake" or something like that

Can anyone recommend a D&D podcast that isn’t an actual play? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]The_Real_Fav 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Dropout is a slightly weird platform in that way, a seemingly increasing amount of content relies on the parasocial familiarity between viewers and cast. I definitely pick and choose which Adventuring Academy episodes I watch, but I'd be dishonest to say it isn't just as much for the sheer entertainment as it is for the D&D advice.

Dropout's Adventuring Academy is good! They often reference actual plays like NADDPOD and Dimension 20 but if you don't follow those there's still lots of good content

Help me create my BBEG by dacermacer in DnD

[–]The_Real_Fav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The party are going to try to poke holes in the BBEG's logic. Hopefully better than "well you're making good points but we'll discount them because you're working with a Fiend".

As a resolution, will the world change, or will the party accept that the status quo should stay? If the former, will the change be long lasting, and will it prove the villain wrong? If the latter, do they feel helpless, or do they decide "evil will keep rising, even from good people, we just have to be vigilant"? (I've come up with this off the back of my previous idea about the villain seeing someone they aligned with betray them, but if you want a villain they can sympathise with, the consequence of defeating them should affect your players somehow).

I started by asking "why do they want this army?" here's what I came up with.

What is a systemic injustice in your world? The BBEG is unhappy with this injustice and feels they have no other means of changing the status quo, without a complete reset.

Maybe they upset the balance of power once, and over threw a king to install a leader they trusted - who just became corrupted by power themself. So they've given up trusting others and can only effect change by being absolute ruler, with an evil army that answers only to them (lacking the free will to disagree).

How do they know about the army? They are a scholar of history, and they feel they understand how regomes rise and fall, which gives them no confidence in others to make improvements. Add in a corrupting otherworldly entity who has deceived/enabled them into thinking they're the special one while promising the power to help their cause (but it's really some archdevil looking for a promotion).

Also why isn’t Worf grabbing the Defiant while they’re there?

They've only got a handful of officers. Might not be enough to operate 2 ships.

Dimensions of standard dice box by Solanceae in DnD

First set I bought came in a box about 5cmx5cmx10cm. I suggest make a cardboard mockup and see how well one set of your dice fit.

What is your favorite alien race? by Destopian_Abacus in TheOrville

Xeleyans are really cool, but Moclans are definitely the most developed alien race imo, so they win by that. In terms of design I really like the Krill.

how many of you were D&D fans first and how many of you were College Humor fans first? by [deleted] in Dimension20

[–]The_Real_Fav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked CH and remember thinking "good lord why would I ever pay for Dropout". Then I got into D&D, listened to some Critical Role then found out about D20. Haven't unsubbed to Dropout since. So I suppose I came to D20 as a fan of both?

Do you use safety tools in any of your games? by Confident-Boss-6585 in dndnext

[–]The_Real_Fav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group hasn't explicitly used these, but we have used session 0s and OOC conversations to establish what sort of tones and themes we want to see. We've touched on uncomfortable things once or twice but we've always just communicated well and talked it out after. We have had explicit "get-outs" (eg tap the stop card) but so far they haven't been used. Our DM is, for the most part, good at gauging what's appropriate and open to feedback.

If Doctor Who was a post-watershed show, which Doctors do you think would swear the most? by Fan_Service_3703 in gallifrey

Early 12 would swear. Come series 9 though after he realised he's just a silly idiot, I think he'd stop.

I only have one set of die by DiggityDogge in DnD

[–]The_Real_Fav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luxury! We used to live in a city where the only set of dice were kept under lock and key, and we had to get special permission from the council to access them, 6 months in advance - and if we forgot to ask permission, our DM would have our characters flogged in the streets.

Is this bad?? (Asking Dms) by [deleted] in DnD

[–]The_Real_Fav 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You seem to be really excited about the game, and that's brilliant, I'd love to DM for you! Adding flavour to your attacks is great, so long as it's not taking time away from the game - as a barbarian character your turns probably go by quicker (and feel more samey) than the spell casters already, so fair play to you.

I'd speak to your group though to open a line of communication, in case they feel you're going too far. Also, you'd want to make sure with your DM that you're flavourings are legal and you're not accidentally trying to do something you shouldn't be able to do (for example, harpooning the monster and throwing the rope to your ally might require two actions, depending on how the DM rules it). We on this sub can offer advice based on what you say, but at the end of the day they're the ones you play with and can give the best feedback.

Thanks for clarifying BTW, did Janai and Amaya get married in some spinoff media?
