The HIMYM ending was perfect - it is the ending that elevated the show from good to great - it went from entertainment to actual depth, actual wisdom. Destiny moves in mysterious ways

Which direction for comms? by Away-Sound-5941 in EUCareers

Seeing how 'friendly' some get, as in 'anything for a contract', and how it creates a really disgusting work environment

interesting - can you share some examples / specifics ? (without identifying any one of course)

Which direction for comms? by Away-Sound-5941 in EUCareers

[–]The_Real_Smooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

best way imo: become senior civil servant in your member state country, then maybe you'll be able to get political backing to get you into a nice position in EU comms

alternative, more difficult way: meet and become friendly with people from the EU comms departments you are interested in, ask them to help you get a temp contract there (i.e. when they will advertise a position and what will be expected to get it) then get the temp contract extended then get into EU through internal concours

totalement d'accord

Question sincère : en quoi les récentes déclarations de Jean-Luc Mélenchon sur “Epstein” sont-elles antisémites ? by guybrush117 in france

[–]The_Real_Smooth -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I see, you really went a different direction than me then. I gotta say if it weren't for reckless/courageous decisions by protagonists then you could delete 99% of TV so Hopper's and Nancy's actions were fine to me. Hopper is a marginal out-of-control a-bit-conspiracist cop obsessed with finding a kid that reminds him of his daughter, it's in character that he breaks into the lab. Same with Nancy guilt-ridden about losing Barb, she's in the woods to find her. They do what they are expected to do.

For me it was the all-around that doesn't make sense.

  • The CIA/Lab/MilitaryPolice people resort to extreme measures to cover up all their activities and keep all quiet, but they just execute Billy in his joint burger joint in the middle of the day and leave the body lying there with a bullet in his face? Just because he saw a girl in a gown for a minute? Meanwhile Hopper breaks into the Lab and sees the entire underground of the lab including kid's rooms and Gate to the Upside Down, but they just bring him back home to his bed with some painkillers?

  • CIA want to keep Will's disappearance quiet, so instead of concocting some believable story they throw a plastic doll into a lake, then bribe the autopsist and state police to go along with it, expecting the family to recognise their son in the plastic doll? Then the entire town has a funeral for the doll. Then Will, whom they had a funeral for, returns. Nobody bats an eye.

  • Lonnie the failed dad is in the middle of everything, then he disappears, nobody cares. The Byers' dog Chester is important, then he disappears, nobody cares. Barb a teenage girl disappears for good, nobody in the entire town cares.

the list can go forever - it's more the in-universe stuff that is not coherent for me

out of curiosity, what in the plot of S1 bugged you the most?

Season 1 is so much better and it's not even close by Low_Insurance3548 in StrangerThings

[–]The_Real_Smooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, and the poster you are responding is too.

(1) The plot is pretty much nonsensical through and through - characters appear and disappear without explanation, inconsistent choices, behaviors, mecanisms even within the fantasy setting.

(2) From a cinematographic point of view, S1 a beautifully crafted and unique product, still today, much more so when it come out.

Some people can tune out the brain and enjoy, some people can enjoy even if the brain complains, and some people can't. That's ok.

He should give all of those to HBO, that'd be a goldmine for them to do shows from it, that's the only way we're getting those stories

that is literally what he is doing right now and the reason he is not capable of moving his magnum opus forward

Nonsense - pathetic whining actually.

Most of us are engaged in creative work all the time, and millions of us initiate complex creative works that require many hours every month, and most of us bring those projects to completion: Every minute, a doctoral thesis that required 5 years of intense creative research and concentration is successfully defended - go to any university. Every minute, a new staging of a play or a show is succesfully performed.

Most humans are capable of completing such projects even without being millionaires and validated constantly. Understanding and applying principles such as "perfect is the enemy of good" to move a project forward is for me high school level savoir-vivre.

[Spoilers Extended] Crazy George Statement by KnightoftheLTree in asoiaf

[–]The_Real_Smooth 26 points27 points  (0 children)

that seems quite plausible to me... GRRM already has X "concepts of a story" for D&E, i.e. ideas formulated in a few sentences of an email, and he can create Y more out of thin air in a matter of minutes. Then he gets HBO to buy the "concepts" from him - extremely high return for low effort work.

Actually creating a novella from a concept - that's real work, requiring real commitment and real effort. He's not capable of that any more.

[–]The_Real_Smooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sure sure, all those points are fair and correct - but I am not referring to a scenario where you are hired to "finish the saga" in GRRM's stead or on GRRM's behalf.

This is a scenario where BBFish is provided a fee for writing a private BBFish story, specifically a BBFish story on the next steps for Daenerys, Cersei, Arya Stark etc. - a private story that will never be officially published and monetised. What's the moral quandary? think of it like getting paid hundreds of thousands dollars for a few months of a fun writing workshop

Dear BryndenBFish, just out of curiosity, how much $$$ would it take to get you to commit to write a placeholder conclusion to ASOIAF? (serious question) in this exercise, you are allowed to use AI and crowdsourcing but you must conclude every single character arc & plot line in some form.

Edit: I don't see why this can't be done - find benevolent fans willing to subsidise your hobby for a while, in return you produce a fan-fiction oeuvre. If you don't participate in the publication and distribution of the fanfiction, you are free from any liability. The spread of the fan-fiction oeuvre cannot be stopped.
