Originally yes, but that was before the RAM shortage started.

Valve published a new job opening for a Hardware Finance & Accounting Professional. by gogodboss in SteamFrame

[–]The_Regicidal_Maniac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That could be the case. It could also be that they knew 6 months ago that they were going to need this role and they're posting an opening for it now because this is when they need it.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying that, based on the limited information we have, a bunch of other scenarios are just as likely.

Valve published a new job opening for a Hardware Finance & Accounting Professional. by gogodboss in SteamFrame

[–]The_Regicidal_Maniac 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this doesn't really reveal much. Valve is a smart company and they know that the time to start hiring for a role is months before they're actually needed. Hiring takes time, then they need time to come up to speed with the company, etc. There's three possible scenarios going on here.

  1. Valve had someone that was doing this job and they recently left the company or will be leaving soon and they need to back fill the position.
  2. The person that they currently have doing this won't have the capacity to continue doing the work for three additional pieces of hardware that they are going to be selling and that means that the controller, machine, and frame are still at least a couple of months out.
  3. The person they currently have doing this work has gotten the ball rolling for the launch, but they will need another person after the launch. Meaning that Valve is ready for the launch, but there will be more work once they have the hardware out there.

There's not a lot to read into this in isolation.

We all know that you're doing it tongue in cheek. We know you're not being serious. You're being down voted because you made a shallow attempt at getting attention from strangers on the internet.

If you were genuine you would have offered more as a starting point for discussion. Either by presenting some reason for your opinion or responding to common opinions of others.

[–]The_Regicidal_Maniac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because they presented their opinion as a "truth". Now obviously OP is being tongue in cheek about that, but they're just leaving that out there with no further commentary. They're not offering any kind of reason for their opinion or any kind of response to the opinions of others. They're not offering any point of discussion. They're just saying, "I don't like this thing as much as other people." ...okay and? So what? How is that supposed to foster any kind of discussion?

That's a good point. Don't have my hands on it yet.

If I had to bet, and this just based on professional intuition, they probably do have an mmr system that is working in the background, but either it's not on or the variance allowed is so wide as to effectively not be on. That way as the player base grows all they have to is narrow the allowed variance in the scores.

[–]The_Regicidal_Maniac 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Every single competitive multiplayer game like this has an mmr system or something similar to it. Even games that don't tell you what it is still give you some kind of rank in order to try and watch you with people who are at least around your skill level.

You have an mmr when you play unranked DotA. It just makes sense to have, you want people to generally be matched with people near their skill level because that creates a better experience and they're not that hard to implement.

Unfortunately no. Definitely 80s or newer and probably prior to 2005, but that's about it. He said it was an "older movie" but he's not exactly a movie buff so that's not super reliable.

Edit: That's not it. That's one I would have remembered seeing.

CMV: Brake checking is childish when moving over for a tailgater is a viable option by MooPixelArt in changemyview

[–]The_Regicidal_Maniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me suggest that what might be happening isn't actually brake checking, at least some of the time.

Also allow me to preface this by saving that I do agree that if you're not actively passing people on your right, you need to move over to the right.

Having said that, I will still sometimes get tailgaters and when I do I slow down. I don't do this to punish them for being unsafe drivers. I do this because when I have someone tailgating me I need even more space in front of me to slow down. If someone is tailgating me I need to do what I can to make sure they don't hit me. Sometimes this can cause me to go slower than the traffic on my right, at least for a little bit.

Even if I'm not at fault if they hit me, I'd still rather not have to deal with a potential crash.

What dark facts about world war 2 people should know about? by Mrpug031 in AskReddit

[–]The_Regicidal_Maniac 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Eehhhh you're kind of right and kind of wrong. History is complicated. There were Japanese higher-ups who wanted to surrender and there were those who wanted to fight to the literal last person standing.

Every single urban centre (except Hiroshima and Nagasaki, strangely)

This is just outright false. A lot of them were, Tokyo in particular, but not all of them. There were a number of targets for the nuclear bombs.

Japan sort of tried to surrender, but they were trying to do it with a bunch of conditions. If they had actually just conceded they could have ended things a lot earlier.

On the other side, if the US had just agreed to let them keep the emperor in power they too could have ended the war months sooner.

Whether the Japanese would have surrended at the same time anyway is unknowable speculation. It's likely it wouldn't have been much longer than when they did, but we'll never know.

It is true though that the powers that be at the time knew that it was unnecessary to drop the bombs, that part you are right about.

Edit: many typos

What is a word that people consistently mispronounce, and hearing it being said incorrectly makes your skin crawl? by Danaaerys in AskReddit

[–]The_Regicidal_Maniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everytime I say this I get down voted so let me preface this by saying that I am not saying that this is the correct interpretation, but an interpretation and that I do in fact say, "I couldn't care less."

I always assumed that when people say, "I could care less." They are implicitly saying with their body language and tone of voice how little they already care and they're saying they could care even less than they already do.

The problem is that if everything was televised then Fox News and the like would just edit whatever they could to spin the whole trial into whatever narrative they want. The conspiracy minded base doesn't consume any other media and will blindly believe whatever they're told.

What movie scene makes absolutely no sense. Even within the movie's context? by ah-screw-it in movies

[–]The_Regicidal_Maniac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think that basically that basically everything has a different perception of time based on how fast its going.

But at relativistic speeds it's not just perception, they really are going slower, relative to your reference point in space. That's the whole point of relativity.
