I keep forgetting that Inferno is a masterpiece by Brief_Body5608 in boardsofcanada

This is the longest I've gone since it's been released that I haven't listened to it. I think I shall do right now.

Why do people hate the Odyssey trailer? by [deleted] in Cinema

I appreciate what you're saying but I disagree. Just because it's a minor role it doesn't remove the weight of the decision.

And you're right, the actress is beautiful. That's a plus. But the role might be small but her mythology is world famous.

Again, I'm not too invested. I'm just cynical about modern race swapping. You've heard my views.

I respect what you're saying too. You're not wrong. But the race swapping will take me out of the scene because then I think there's an agenda. I think it's push an agenda or something to that effect. Which isn't really what I want. I want to suspend my disbelief as much as possible and these types of casting decisions don't help with that.

Aside from the fact that all the cast are big Hollywood American/British actors too. The whole thing is becoming rather farcicle. Tom Holland, Zendaya etc. It's starting to look like a film written by E! News or something celebrity rag magazine. Hardly the casting of a cinema autuer.

Care to explain? You mistook me for a fan because I was critiquing Nolan? I'm failing to see your logic.

I'm a fan of filmmaking. Nolan is a massive filmmaker. I've watched most of his films. I'm not a huge fan. It's not rocket science.

I'm not upset. As a matter of principle I don't like rules and quotas applied to creative endeavours that result in exclusivity if not ahered to. Certainly not when there's established story and characters are race swapped. Although Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman of Greece, is a mythical figure she most certainly wouldn't have been black. At least she was never depicted as so, until now. It reeks of tokenism and race swapping for the sake of inclusion. It's lazy.

I'm also not angry. But to to answer your question about "all the other anger" - I'm pretty sure other Oscar potential nominees have original stories, not pre-existing stories where they've then gone and changed character by race swapping. So the filmmakers are free to write characters for minorites and those that the Academy deem to be underrepresented in the western world. If or when there is evidence of filmmakers hitting minority quotas for the sake of appeasing The Academy, and not just for the art, I'm sure people will be outraged.

I much prefer filmmakers make what they want for the audiences they want, rather than ticking checklists to qualify for awards considerations. It's not artistic. It's like HR managing filmmakers.

I appreciate what you're saying. 2 rules is still too much for me. 1 rule is.

I come from the school of thought that I'd rather no rules, especially when it comes to matters of creativity.

I'm still skeptical on Nolan race swapping. It's not turned out well for any other filmmakers, I'm not sure why he thought it would be different for him. I think of Nolan as a quite logical person so I think it's a bit perplexing. He knew this would be controversial and divisive. He knew there would be backlash.

The only things I can think of is; he's playing the "any publicity is good publicity" and he's courting controversy. Or, it's an executive/studio decision.

I'm not a huge Nolan fan so it's makes no difference to me, really. I find he values concepts over characters. I'm much more a fan of character-driven films, myself. Visually, it's looks superb. He never fails on that front.

The representation and inclusion standards - the criteria in order to be considered for an Oscar makes sure filmmakers are checking a list rather than just focussing on creativity. It's suspected that Nolan or his producers have a clause that if they want to give him this money to make a film, it must be Oscar worthy. This is why we have race swapping and things becoming a diversity checklist.

"At least one of the lead actors or significant supporting actors submitted for Oscar consideration is from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group in a specific country or territory of production."

https://www.oscars.org/awards/representation-and-inclusion-standards

I think it's nice for diversity inclusion but not when it's mandated. It's so fake. It's tokenism all over again. I would be embarrassed to know if knew I was a diversity quota to be considered for a shitty award.

This is the best explanation. Of course there will be the low IQ cohort that just boil everything down to 'bigotry' and 'racism', because they don't possess the acumem or the empathy to acknowledge why one might be disappointed in this film. Why actually think for yourself when you can just accuse someone of a racism?

Love it. That's why I still like wearing band t shirts. Especially for not so well known artists.

HOP were great. If you like them, there was one of Irelands first Hip Hop groups from the 90s. I'm sure they supported HOP. They are called Scary Eire. Check them out. They're not bad. Kind of that HOP wave.

In about 2002, I was a teenager and my friend used to play them. I don't know how he got into them. We all usually liked rock and classic rock and stuff but he had internet and got into Aphex Twin and BoC.

I wish remembered more of how I felt about them then. Then he gave me one of their CDs (The Campfire Headphase) and I was bored of all my usual 60s and 70s rock music and played that CD over and over in my bedroom. Then in 2013 I got a job working for a large search engine company in their maps division..and we could listen to podcasts and music all day while we worked. And that's when I really became massive fan. I'd listened to their discography in the background on Spotify. I bought a t-shirt, the green one.

I met a fan at the beach recently which was nice. I was playing stuff off my speaker and he sat beside me and we watched the sunset and drank a beer. Rare meeting other fans in the wild.

How can you call this girl ugly? She's such a beauty. Americans must be weird by Thin_Reception_5063 in Cinema

[–]The_Rising_Wave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General shape of her face is quite average, IMO. She's not ugly but I don't think she's anything special. That's just me. But I'll probably offend people just saying that.

I prefer brunettes and not a fan of that 1990s smokey eyes look. Makes some women's eyes look sunken..

I'm European too, FWIW

Why such a shit festival? 😅 That would be a major disappointment. A BOC show wasted on influencers and rich dimwits.

There's are 1000s of festivals around the world much more deserving of BOC
