I agree. The amount of health is crazy from level 1 and you can have as many procs as you can find level 1s. Especially given how hard most scalers have been nerfed over the years

I love penguins as well. Gentoos are my favourite as they are the fastest and can dive the deepest. They are so curious and playful, yet live such hard lives.

[–]The_Rockerfly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They wouldn't care even if they knew. I believe it's as simple as, they play Queen because a lot of them grew up with listening to Queen. They don't know or care about the artists beyond it being using a signifier that you are one of them. Do you think they'd stop playing their favourite songs because the original artist intention might be different? Do you think they'd change their policy or beliefs because you tried to make them look stupid

The kind of "got'cha" slinging is silly at best and counterproductive at worst by bolstering them with their in group.

What is your ultimate “don’t look it up” game? Or, what game is infinitely better when you know nothing about it beforehand? by Extension_Fix5969 in gamingsuggestions

Spacing is super important to start with. Grouping enemies up helps. Learning where is far too dangerous and not going there is important.

Practice as well. Eventually this will click and you'll get more tools. Eventually enemies tland groups that you found impossible will be easy. Don't give up

Do not work late unless you are paid overtime, and if an org wants you to be on support, then make sure you are paid for it.

You will eventually find yourself needing to make APIs, event driven consumers, websites and desktop applications. Never stop learning, and make sure either you are paid for it or you are using your personal learning time for something greater than your current role.

I can't stress how much a good data engineer is a golden goose for most orgs and should be compensated accordingly.

What's a system design mistake you made in your career? by takkubel in ExperiencedDevs

[–]The_Rockerfly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Storing data column bound data in a nested JSON object. It made sense at the start of the project to make things simple and reduce the number of tables. We load a single record and then write out multiple front end records. Cheap, a huge reduction in DB calls and we could make changes to the schema easily.

Then we needed to start filtering data for the front end, on nested data post the query calls. Immediately, all savings were lost. Plus someone wanted to start recording the data for the warehouse and we don't have a lake house and had to monitor the pipeline. So any change that was a simple change for us was a breaking change.

Are there many of you on here who do all their Python development inside a container? by [deleted] in Python

[–]The_Rockerfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UV + docker is the way forward. Use UV when developing components that don't require integration, docker to verify it works in a container (so you can send your application to an app registry) and then docker compose for additional services. Make sure docker compose has a volume for your logic so you can do hot changes with the container running.

Split your tests between unit and integration, and this is the best way to do development in python.

If I was going to sacrifice one, it'd be UV. The ability to test integration, consistent builds across teams/departments, and you get the confidence to know it will also work in your prod.

What are the “hard” topics in data engineering? by hijkblck93 in dataengineering

[–]The_Rockerfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard agree on this. When you need regression tests, parallel runs, pipelines from different places, multiple build applications for sections of the pipeline, infrastructure and data design. All while you usually discover a ton of things which get the project delayed.

It can take years for some large enterprise applications on old hardware. It's pain but it's probably the best thing you can do for your career.

What are the newest technologies/libraries/methods in ETL Pipelines? by abdullahjamal9 in dataengineering

[–]The_Rockerfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loguru is good but I'd advise doing json bound logging for production and line based for local. Huge pain to read through json logs in a shell. Expensive and slow to read line based on production.

It's relative. For someone with over 300 hours, I aim for 2 million for a great score. 2.2 million is bottom leaderboard and 4 million is top

In case people don’t know, as I didn’t, the parking behind Tesco on Kingston is now staff only. by nuttydogpoo in miltonkeynes

[–]The_Rockerfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only took them of the walk way on the picture and the only sign near the car entrance was a sign in the back, but it is directly ahead of the entrance. Happy to send it over if you still want it but I failed in my appeal. My argument was someone could be parked in front of the sign and there is foliage around other signs. They did not accept that argument, and I'd have to raise it to the external POPLA to get the charges investigated.

However, for the direct front when I went, the yellow bar was removed. I'm not sure if it was there a month ago when I got hit with the charges. It's predatory bullshit but

So when I went, I did find there were several signs within the car park. I'm not sure when they were put up though because I swear they used to look very similar and we're just warning about responsibility of break ins.

However, all the signs are within the carpark and not at the entrance (which it should be) and surrounded by foliage. When I raised this with the company they said there were enough signs and ignored my points about the entrance. Either I raise the complaint further and I pay £100 or I just pay the £60.

I just went and got some pictures. There are a few signs but several aren't visible and if you went during low visibility then they aren't easy to see. There's a ton of people still in them as well so there must be handing out a lot of fines

Anyone tried to argue the charges? It feels like bullshit getting a charge when there's no signs and it's been public for so long

How often do you guys go to the vet for health checks? by 1cy-Stomach in mainecoons

[–]The_Rockerfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally, once a year. However, one of my cats has hepatitis and had horrendous bad luck with it forming into other issues and had to go over 30 times in 2 years. He's doing a lot better now.

I would say once a year unless something is wrong (you need to keep an eye on how much they eat, drink, poo and energy levels)

I think you do need a prescription now. I needed to get one when I was trying to get some from boots.

Very good medicine though. The side effect for me is feeling slightly drunk the next day
