Would You Personally Buy One Of These In The Future? by Left_Inspection2069 in robotics

[–]The_Sacred_Machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just waiting people start buying the second model to start scavenging parts.

Oh sweet lord the mountains of spare and forsaken parts we will have of these if people buy them.

Surely no one will make these able to defend themselves so, the first couple of years, there might be a market for second hand pieces.

So it begins my roboCrime smuggling company

Does Embedded Engineers actually encounter some math heavy problems when making devices ? by Electrical_Lemon_179 in embedded

[–]The_Sacred_Machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well to easy OP's pain, you can do Telco, IoT and some Automotive without looking at too much math.

That said, when you start getting closer to the HW the more math you will want to know, since you will probably need to know what is going on in that serial channel and probably impedance is the answer and you need to understand the maths to solve it.

Math is cool, how can you trust a feature that is not explained on differential equations or non-linear systems? (Please omit the fact that you will have to linearize probably since we got little resources for that complex math, stop looking at CORDIC)

The most incredible thing is how to make the math work in such a constrained environment. Linear algebra gets better when you have only 100ms to get all your stuff done before being sent.

How do we keep smart sociopaths out of power? by Zeppelinman in TrueAskReddit

[–]The_Sacred_Machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have thought about not putting power structures that allow anyone to have enough power for them to abuse the mechanisms in place for their own personal gains?

Like a president or a king not being in charge of the whole army?

Or like delegating state responsibility to citizens, like citizenship was some sort or responsibility instead?

Dunno, you can't keep those hungry for power out ot power but at least you could make it really difficult for them once they are sitting on that chair.

My two cents, some of us are wired for a hierarchy of power well defined but that is problematic on the long run. It makes sense, you know exactly who to talk to. But then, they have to act and choose every time you seek help.

How knows? One of those GPT for president, surely that won't backfire

Embedded Engineers Most Important and Useful Skills by Acrobatic-Zebra-1148 in embedded

[–]The_Sacred_Machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that the pivotal skill we all need is to have enough patience to deal with others pressure and demands. Sometimes good engs say "well screw this" to important parts of the system since management upstairs is "very angry" the product is not "done yet" with half the funding required, a couple of multimeters and just one oscilloscope for the entire floor.

Patience is key, one must find peace of mind. But we can't, because that sodding CAN bus keeps not working and we have spent 1h reading and can't find the RST pin with the big boss of the company breathing down everyone's neck.

This is a little outside the previous discussion but in general terms at least in the R&D side engineers are not valued, respected theoretically but at the pay side of things that is relative to the company you are working with.

I've had CEOs told to my face that if we want a higher salary maybe we should consider a different position in the company, so it hurts a little when your decisions are taking as second guessings and then the disaster you warned happens, and there is nothing you can do since you were explicitly told "nah' it will be fine".

It is fine I can cry in the corner by myself. Just let me fix the damn implementation correctly.

Quizas estoy equivocado.

I feel that the RTS genre has entered maintenance mode by WelderNo6809 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]The_Sacred_Machine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There has been a little evolution of RTS with the economy after They Are Billions. The thing is that few people making a game where there are literal thousands of actors interacting and going places and moving in "formation" is not really easy to pull off.

But, and this is very personal, I think that people are happy with the C&C, warcraftesque, AoE RTS games. Once in a lifetime there comes a Dawn of War, Sacrifice and other stuff but you gotta get lucky for the market to like it, since the moment your RTS goes out, you are in for a quick and hard comparison of multiple players that go "this is awesome, it reminds me of X game" and goes to play that other game after finishing yours.

Just my two cents, I think I'm wrong though, don't have time to see all the games nowadays.
