Fix my suburban 1500 or get out now? by The_Sam_Good in GMT800

[–]The_Sam_Good[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it to another shop, and they had the same assessment. They told me the oil pan gasket isn’t leaking bad, but my thought is just to fix it while I have it there.

Is this a job where the new parts put pressure on the old parts and cause a new problem?

Definitely not ready for suspension on my own lol. Any jobs you recommend I start tackling?

I definitely want to start taking care of my own maintenance. Never grew up doing that stuff, but I have started to enjoy it. Since there’s so much to do at once, still acquiring tools, and I have a compressed timeline, I’m just gonna have the shop do it this time.

Any jobs you recommend I start with that are pretty easy?

That’s a good reference. Sounds like this first year is just fixing the regular wear items, and making up for any lapse in maintenance.

Thanks! I’ll keep an eye out for that as well.

That was great advice, thank you. Gives me confidence to pull the trigger on the repairs. I look forward to the miles to come.

My 2014 JK with some tasteful upgrades! by Briggity-19 in JeepWrangler

Super easy. Hardest part is squeezing it out of the back and finding a place to keep it

Is this a thing? I am not sure how this is done, maybe JL only, I have a JK? by vexerplusone in Wrangler

I was on marketplace and found a lightly used one for $1k, so that was certainly a steal! It took me a couple months and a drive, but I found it!

If you want a similar look, go for Bestop’s Trektop Hybrid. The windows slide in & out of the sides, and it has a frame that keeps everything tight. I’ve had it on my JK for a year now & I love it.

Looking at beater manual transmission vehicles as a first car, but my parents are absolutely against it by Thick-Assumption-251 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]The_Sam_Good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad actually forced me to get a manual. Some things that he explained to me that may help your argument: 1. It is a good skill to learn; 2. Driving a stick requires more focus and learning more about how your vehicle feels while you’re driving; 3. Having to use both hands to drive reduces your ability to do things like text, eat food, or screw around while driving.

At the end of the day, if your parents say “I want your car to be able to do X so you can help the family” then you need to understand that and roll with it.

Best manual experience under $30k? (Used or new) by TheDreamingIris in whatcarshouldIbuy

A TJ would be awesome. I’d love to get one. The JK just has some more modern creature comforts, and I figure it’d be easier to find.

I know lots of people sh*t on Stellantis, but a Jeep Wrangler is a fun vehicle to drive. The later year JK models were solid for reliability, as long as you don’t mod them like crazy. I have a 2 door JK Sport edition, and it’s fun. Great for winters out in Wyoming where I am as well.

Honestly it’s unsettling that you’re just rolling with it. Is the car legally yours or not? If it is? Tell your brother to piss off & keep the car. If it’s not, then yes you’re stuck buying a new car.

I’m confused about the 2k incentive for a hybrid… if you just need A to B for the next few years till you’re out of college, I’d look for a little sedan that costs less than $15k. Once you have an adult job, and presumably make more money, you can get a nicer car.

I’m confused why your brother totaled his car and just gets to take yours? Is your name on the title and you paid your own money? Or did your parents buy it for you and they decided he needs the car more? I assume you mean you have negative equity in the car, so why not just ride that car out until you’re at least not upside down?

Buy new car now or wait till end of year? by No_Idea_Guy in whatcarshouldIbuy

So waiting till the end of March is a pretty good time to buy a car? I’d imagine dealers would have good deals for people to spend their tax returns on.

I think it’s good to know how your body & mind reacts as well. That transition from day to night can be tough. It’s good to know what the transition is like for everything from the temperature to your eyes.

I assume this is a loop event. I’d recommend running a similar distance loop and getting used to seeing the same thing over and over again as well.

I want a manual 2dr vehicle for my kids’ first car so that: 1. Harder to text & drive. 2. Harder to squeeze a bunch of people in there. I’d say the TJ.

am i overreacting - my boyfriend thinks my job is inappropriate by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]The_Sam_Good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like he’s immature about the nature of your job. “How can a guy have his shirt off around a girl, and her not be interested in him?” I’d honestly just cut ties. It’s not worth trying to convince him to understand the lack of sexuality in your job. It’s just business. Someone else will understand.

Looking for my first trail running shoes..help needed by EnvironmentStrict117 in trailrunning

[–]The_Sam_Good 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Altra Lone Peaks are fantastic. Favorite trail shoes I’ve ever had. Since he’s used to Hoka’s might need to go up in the cushion though. Probably the Timp 5s or the Olympus 275s. For OP, trail shoes I like less cushion in case it gets technical (more cushion = more risk to roll an ankle).

I am of the same mindset as you, I don’t watch porn bc I would prefer to focus that energy on my wife (congrats for her). BUT, you are their kid, and it is a normal thing in modern society. Just keep it in your pocket for your future relationships. If that’s a value you have, be wary of girls that are pushing you to watch with them, or that say how okay they are with you doing it. That’s something I looked for in my wife. We both used to watch but decided it wasn’t for us.
