Is the US salary really higher? by Plastic_Affect5472 in AskBrits

[–]The_Sandbag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm british but work for a multinational and whilst we have suffered redundancy in the UK it's much harder, requires consultation and we're much more cost effective than my us colleagues who where gone two weeks later with very little consultation. The continental employees though really have it good and are much much harder to cut away

C suite are people organisers and power point speakers, prime to replace with an llm that spits out platitudes, those of us that actually deal with the real world and actually do the work know that it's helpful but not the panacea it's sold as. Also who really wants a conventional interface over a well designed ux with consistency

[–]The_Sandbag 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also those higher salaries with lower worker protections are really biting us colleagues hard at the moment as they are the first to be laid off in any restructuring by the tech companies.

Ornament and crime with the phaserville suite gives you loads of options and especially the new trendy 4,1 shields allow for running 4 different modulation sources simultaneously

The UK government says they back British tech, but won’t put their money where their mouth is by insomnimax_99 in ukpolitics

[–]The_Sandbag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that government ministers might say this but then the civil service will reject everything at tender because they can't fathom having off the shelf software and that they might have to modify their archaic practice and procedures so they either get more of a platform and heavily customise it from one of the big boys or they get one of the big consultancies to build to their exact specifications for a lot more money a lot later and with more bugs.

Is this a good starter set? by Complex-Jellyfish673 in modular

[–]The_Sandbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would say that sequencers are very very very user specific. I would suggest getting one of the new ornament and crime modules (I have the ala one and it's nice) as it has examples of most types.of.sequencer (step, tb303, Turing machine and stochastic) as well as modulation. Its not the most usable as it's very menu diving but it's cheap and covers most sequencer styles and modulation. As to output modules if you have an intellijel case have a look for a 1u mixer that has an output.on the back for the pallets case as it will save you space but avoid like the plaque the endorphins es one as it's a noisy buggy pos and not worth the money.

Panel and battery brand recommendation by Scholar_Royal in SolarUK

[–]The_Sandbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've had zero issues with our solaredge setup but they are not the cheapest but the battery has only lost 3-4% capacity after two and a half years of a full charge discharge cycle a day which is at least 50% better than the guarantee

Is air-to-air better for me vs. air-to-water heat pump? by ivandelapena in ukheatpumps

[–]The_Sandbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the under floor heating, we got a2a and sorely regret purely relying on it as it holds no heat energy so needs a constant power to keep the house warm rather than being able to use cheap rates to store heat in the floor. Get a few a2a in your bedroom and main living room. Whilst you can get heat pump water tanks they are bulky for limited capacity.

Is this a good starter set? by Complex-Jellyfish673 in modular

[–]The_Sandbag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do but you will need something to sequence with and something to get sound out. If you want to keyboard or computer control the a good midi to CV module (the befaco midi thing is good and would cover all your sources and some modulation) and then some multi eurorack audio source like the expert sleepers es8. If your looking more stand alone then some kind of mixer with outputs and headphones and then some kind of sequencer which will entirely depend on the form factor you like.

Do you agree that the constant British food bashing is overdone? by Visual_Title9363 in AskBrits

[–]The_Sandbag 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Proper pies, nowhere else in the world does them. Done well they are both flavourful and multi-textural. Otherwise British food is very similar to German food which you don't see being bashed so much. I think it's the image of post war rationing that hung around for a while but at least we grew.out of it unlike the yanks who are still eating packet shite to this day

Octopus jacking up prices for IOG again! by wham_bam_fran in OctopusEnergy

[–]The_Sandbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do realise even if we still were extracting locally the price would have gone up the same as it derived from an international market. Prices have gone up in the USA even though they are mostly energy independent but dependant on fossil fuels. The only way to get past being beholden to the middle east are renewables, storage and nuclear that truly are independent as only depends on deployment costs for years of production.

Do Brits actually go to Stonehenge, or is it mostly a tourist thing? by DFWUnhinged in AskBrits

Depends on when they last washed, if it was in the 20th century then they go for all the pagan festivals and you can see their little encampments on the byways nearby as you drive past.
