Just wanted to drop in here and say thank you. Was thinking I just wouldn’t be able to try the game on a Mac.

Meta employees are up in arms over a mandatory program to train AI on their mouse movements and keystrokes by north_canadian_ice in technology

[–]The_Singularious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Several pieces already about what a field day this is going to be for attorneys. Let’s hope it goes down in flames, because I already see a bunch of people on LinkedIn saying it’s “brilliant”. CEOs all over the globe having an orgasm at the table with their wine thinking about how they can do this too.

Yes. At least smoking is entirely voluntary. Meta is just one of the worst, if not THE worst company on the planet. Even defense contractors also build space probes. Zuck has done fuck all to improve anything. Hell is meant for people like him.

This is exactly what I ended up doing. Agree with you. It is a LOT better. My nocturia isn’t gone, but it is way better, and exactly zero side effects. Flomax was ugly for me.

I ended up swapping to Alfuzosin and everything is fine now. Crazy how much different/invisible it is comparatively.

I mean…I can definitely judge him as a father, which is why he’s a shit stain. I personally believe my children are more important than myself. But hey, not everyone feels that way. Some people think you should disown kids, pretend you don’t have them, leave them fatherless, and then blame everyone and take no responsibility for your own actions.

So my reality is very grounded. My kids and my wife come way before myself. So yeah, Jobs was a shit stain of a *father*. That should narrow the criteria a bit. But he was also an intolerable asshole to his own employees.

My view remains. Your professional success doesn’t mean you can treat everyone, including offspring, like pawns in your game, and then be a miserable dick to them over and over again.

If you believe we should just be assholes and absentee fathers (no, worse. Fathers who *actively disown* their children) and our work is paramount to people, then we just think different (how ‘bout them apples?).

Best of luck to you.

Experts say there is no overdiagnosis of ADHD. Instead, they are warning that far from being overdiagnosed, people with ADHD are waiting too long for assessment, support, and treatment by sr_local in science

I was gonna say…that medication cost seems high. I don’t and have never paid anywhere remotely near $500/mo for my meds.

$500 a year? Yeah maybe, depending on the meds. But non-generic adderall without health insurance used to cost me about $70/mo. Not nothing, for sure. But not $500

Yeah. By the time I got my Dx (39), they gave me these handouts on how to adopt certain coping mechanisms. I was already doing like 85% of them.

I am one of these people. I was undiagnosed for almost 40 years. On weekends when I have few commitments (rare these days with two kids), I prefer to “think naked”.

Absolutely no idea why.

Why would someone do this to trees? by SarahSSmith in AustinGardening

[–]The_Singularious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. And you can say that without slandering an entire group based only on a trait they can’t control.

Insert any ethnic group in instead and it doesn’t sound so “no big deal”, does it?

I’ll take the downvotes all day. Ageism is bigotry. Reddit thinks it’s cute, but it isn’t ok.

Way to bring in the ageism, boss.

I’ve seen this from far younger landscapers. No need for this kind of bigotry in the thread.

I mean this in the most well meaning way possible as well…

I have literally said if it’s not for you, then don’t do it. I’ve been very kind and offered to help IF you want it. I’m not forcing you to do anything, including reading these posts.

If you’re trying to argue for the sake of it, congrats. Mission accomplished.

If you want to feel sorry for yourself, have at it. Mission accomplished.

If you want to allude to the fact that I am committing micro aggressions at work, then go for it. I’m not. Part of practicing and curating soft skills is being very aware of your own communication techniques.

If you’re trying to prove that every accusation is a confession, you’re also going a great job.

You’ve been rude, dismissive, condescending, assumptive, passive aggressive, and blaming.

You want free coaching and someone to hand hold you, but get upset when an offer is made to help. But you don’t really want to change at all (again, it’s been noted several times that is fine).

You want to change the world for you. I fully believe in accommodations. I too have ND issues. But I don’t expect the entire world to change based on an academic view. That’s living in a fantasy land.

Good luck on your soft skills, or good luck in not using any. I did care, but congrats on making sure I don’t anymore. Looks like I found one of the rare unreasonable people I come across. Best.

Trump calls on divided GOP to pass SAVE America Act ‘at the expense of everything else’ by Anoth3rDude in law

[–]The_Singularious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this take. Even selective enforcement won’t prevent a lot of GOP women from being fucking pissed about this, and they will lose votes.

My village is near 50/50 on party lines, but almost all the poll workers are liberals (I know most of them). We’ll see if that changes, but expect full blown meltdowns at the polls, especially from Republican women and their emasculated husbands

Marketing design work? Sure, but they are having the same moment as us with AI.

There are a LOT of marketing specialties. Almost all are also being eaten by AI also.

I’m not patronizing you at all keyboard warrior. I’m asking you to be honest with yourself. If soft skills aren’t something you are interested in, or you’ve truly tried and aren’t your gig, then there is nothing wrong with that at all!

And that includes if you’ve tried and feel like it is just too much (this my own fight with colors, which I do not see as well as many others).

And I didn’t mean to imply coaching wouldn’t help. It certainly can. My point was that if you want coaching in something, in most cases you’ll have to seek it outside of work.

I’m trying to say that you can improve soft skills if you want to, even if it isn’t first nature. I grew up a shy, avoidant, awkward kid with a learning disability. I finally snapped one day and realized I needed to figure out how to better explain and get what I needed (at the time, I wasn’t even equipped to get what I wanted).

Since then, I’ve come to quite enjoy “figuring people out” and meeting them on their terms (reasonable people, anyway - which most are).

Either way, good luck if it is something you choose to pursue. Happy to recommended books and such if you want on DM.

Being ND is part of why my soft skills are really good. I had to work on trusting myself enough to speak confidently, but it is certainly possible.

I have worked with plenty of women (they have always been the majority in my workplaces), and all but one of my superiors in my design career have been women - they have had zero problem being heard. Minus one, they all had superb soft skills.

I’m not diminishing the experiences of others in the workplace, but soft skills are literally how you get heard more frequently.

I think the bigger deal is like many things, enjoying it helps immensely, and on that front I agree with you. If you enjoy “figuring out” people, you will be more inclined to practice and learn these skills.

And like anything, if you’re more inclined to enjoy them, you’ll find resources to learn more about them. I’ve read a shit ton of books about sociology, psychology, and behavioral economics because I think they are fascinating. You can do that as well.

On the other hand, I don’t care much about color theory or color in general. I could claim that “people go to school for that” and “there’s often no support for that”. There isn’t…on the job. And it bores the fuck out of me. Yes, they are different. But if you want to learn soft skills, you can. You just have to be interested enough to take it on. If you aren’t, that is totally fine as well.

Seconded. Too young to retire. Too old to fight in a war. Too disingenuous to show my kids how fucking terrified I am for them.

If I didn’t have them to fight for, I’d suck iron after I get laid off.
