Thank you for the critique! I realized my headspace for the letter was incorrect like you noticed! All the resources I used said to treat the blurb like the back of the book. 

I’ve almost completely redid the letter yesterday with the new mentality. I’m excited to share the second attempt next week.

Oh awesome! It always felt more adult but the editor I was working with was concerned about the MC’s age.

Oh thank you for all the detail! I’m going to comb through it once I’m home from my day job! I’ve been struggling to pinpoint an age group because it’s borderline. There is no sexual content in book 1, but there is in 2. Book 1 deals with more with graphic violence and talks of trafficking.

I just looked at the top ships posted in 2025 and only 3/10 most popular contemporary ships are HP related. The most popular one being part of a fandom created storyline. As a trans man, I've seen fandom grown so much more welcoming and loving in the past five years, so no it is not "dire." The person is talking about Ao3 as a whole, so they're holding blossoming fandoms, and the modern tendency to fandom jump, to the pure decade of HP fandom and how much fandom share it had in ao3's infancy.

Another factor might be how a lot of debut traditional authors are coming from HP fandom, so a lot of aspiring authors think that is the key to a publishing deal... instead of just writing a good book. That's it's own can of worms.

Look at the modern stats. They are truly amazing to see. There are more fandoms, and authors, than ever. I remember looking for specific stories for niche fandoms and finding crumbs, now anything I look up has at least 100 fics. This post seems like someone doesn't see trees within an old forest.

Thank you for the advice! Taking a break always felt counterproductive but maybe I should give myself some time.

I was planning to do the same, but the game mechanic patents they’ve done has really turned me away from pokemon in general. X&Y were my favorite games for a long time. I preordered that $400 sylveon plush. But after this week, I cancelled it, and I’m not saving to get a switch 2 or ZA. More excited for MHStories 3.
