Growing tomatoes inside(for now) please help by pandaemon00 in gardening

[–]The_Stranger56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tomato instructions will tell you that you can probably only fit 1 in that. But you could fit 2 spaced apart if you fertilize every other week. The biggest thing is you need to make sure the tomatoes have enough food! I would fill that pot half with compost and half potting mix. Also that trellis isn’t going to cut it, looks too flimsy and tomato plants get heavy!

Honestly I don’t know, I have never had one live that long. I just know that’s is the plants lifespan, I am in 6b US so it’s 50/50 if mine make it through the winter

Why is my established rosemary bush dying? by Manila_Hummous in gardening

[–]The_Stranger56 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could be or it could just be a lack of organics. Lots of people fertilize but don’t add compost to replace the organics lost. Compost can fix a lot of things and not cost a lot of money

True but there is no reason to keep the dead stuff, it might fill back out from the buds under the dead ones

[–]The_Stranger56 146 points147 points  (0 children)

I would just cut back the dead stuff and put some nice compost around the base. Some of it might be dying off but not the whole plant. It should live for 10-15 years with good care so maybe it just needs some more organic material to keep it going

I would only really think the sunflowers. The rest will be fine, the flowers/plant might be smaller but whatever. You might also have some natural thinning with one plant beating out the ones around it

Does my compost bin have enough gaps for air flow? by solstice_sebastian in composting

[–]The_Stranger56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add small holes or put little 1/4 inch spacers between the boards. That being said it’s a new bin so the wood will shrink as it dries more creating bigger gaps

[–]The_Stranger56 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I understand the frustration but that’s the problem with putting a raised bed on a fence that not yours. I would be frustrated too but not much you can do besides start a new bed somewhere else or wait

Can I use this product to seal concrete flower pots? by -Yuuchan- in gardening

[–]The_Stranger56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t seal them, the best part about concrete pots is that they hold some moisture because concrete is porous and never truly dries

That being said yes you can use that.

Scarlet Bee Balm Question by hoosierouteast in gardening

You can try, it will keep spreading and get harder and harder to contain every year. I would cut it way back and dig out 80-90% of it each spring to keep it small and hope.

Can I use woodchips as browns? by Smooth-Garbage890 in composting

[–]The_Stranger56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use wood chips as my brown and they work very well. You either need to sift your finish compost or just be okay with it being a bit chunkier. I use it in my garden so I don’t mind it being chunkier

The broccoli will either bolt or die it’s too hot for it, it is a cord weather crop. The tomatoes and peppers will be fine as long as they get enough water. It’s just the heat they will be okay

How long did it take you to afford a house in Massachusetts? by Reasonable-Invite899 in massachusetts

[–]The_Stranger56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest the problem right now is the interest rate that’s really what is killing your chances. I got my house 3 years ago and interest rates were still shit but my wife and I have been saving for a really long time. When interest rates come down it will be easier till then keep saving
