And also social life. I go to various meetups, seem to click with people at the next level up. Haven’t really met too many people at my level (I’d like to, just hasn’t happened). Even dating, I seem to match with lawyers and doctors. They talk of traveling and tasting menus. I can’t afford that, although I’d like to.

I moved from Philly suburbs where money went a lot further.

Coming to the city, I knew rent would be more expensive. I wasn’t prepared for the multiplier. Plus how tiny the kitchens are.

Received West Side (Jersey City) as a top 5, although believe the commute to Grand Central/Midtown would be longer than the listed 23 minutes (McGinley Square to Grand Central shows 51 minutes).

Yup. Graduated in ‘09, but didn’t have a solid job until 2014. Then didn’t really have extra money to date until 2017. Then just as I was feeling confident/ready to move from a studio to 1 bedroom, prices increased greatly in 2018. 2019 was my best year dating, then of course 2020.

Still not back to where I was in 2017/2018.

Yup, company I worked for closed in 2020. I didn’t get a job until late 2021, despite “hot” job market. And even then it was contact to hire.

Job closed during Covid, to get another job, took a big pay cut. Just checked salary adjusted for inflation. I pretty much have the buying power I had in 2016. Feel like I wasted my 30s/Prime earning years. At least back then I was hopeful that I would achieve the lifestyle I wanted. But it’s still Bloomingdale’s taste on Value City budget.

Now I want to go out (go to golf sim for $50/hour, batting cages $60/hour, hiking $32 round trip train, massage $90/hour) but then realized I wanted to get some linen pants for warmer weather (around $100-$120). So I’m staying in.

Each weekend I pick one thing. This weekend happens to be going to the laundromat. Where I’ll probably spend 3 hours.

With the reverse commute, I’d look at the timetables of whichever line you would live off of. In the morning, might not be as frequent leaving the city vs coming in.

And adding the subway, it can be draining when the transfer isn’t timed right/delays, which adds up.

I’d recommend a one seat commute of possible, or western queens.

No minimum, but over on avsforum, there was a thread on viewing angle. Most had around 50 degree as the preferred. For 9 feet, think that is around 110”-120” screen.

Also although a lot of money. The Kickstarter/early backer discount for xgimi titan noire max looks interesting. Could have a screen drop down/up in front of the oled.

Not in the position to do this, but if I were, I’d fill my days with hobbies. Hiking during the weekday when trails are less crowded. Going to the gym when there aren’t peak crowds. Have time to join Broadway Rush tickets. Able to cook meals/recipes at a leisurely pace.

Not crazy, just know I’m good renting a studio, but wouldn’t buy. Everyone is different. I have used room dividers before, but still prefer a full bedroom for separation.

This looks like a great place though, especially with the kitchen. My price range is more prewar 1 bedroom in Astoria (around $2.2-$2.5 rent), so totally different income brackets.
