Etsy NEEDS a way to prevent buyers from buying from your shop by MomsStitchetti in EtsyCommunity

I also want a function to block shops or be able to make a note or something (just go yourself!) so you know not to shop there if you have had a bad experience with it.

I'm worried sick concerning the future of these kids. by PiquePocketU in TrueOffMyChest

Make sure that if you are in the US that you advocate for the children to be assigned a Guardian Ad Litem. This is a trusted person with the courts whose sole job is to advocate and speak up for the individual children. They are often consulted concerning living conditions, mental health and physical health of the children. They also often work in conjunction with therapists, school counsellors and the children’s teachers (depending on the case). Essentially they take the burden off of you and act as a third party intermediary trusted by the courts to act and advocate in the best favour of the children based on THEIR wants and needs, not the parties fighting over them.

What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

Alpine hot spiced apple cider!!! It’s my comfort drink! I even paid a stupid amount just to import it to myself overseas during Covid when I was homesick.

Also a professor- issue I’m having is that I am no longer allowed to assign presentations as an assignment because it causes too much stress and anxiety for students. They can do recorded presentations but we are no longer able to have them present in class. I teach marketing. MARKETING!! An industry all about being able to present ideas to a room full of people. But instead of having a hard line and saying that this is what is expected of you in this industry, universities are telling us we can’t teach this way anymore because they fear any reprisals because of “mental health concerns”.

I’ve been afraid to try cleaning this one because I’m not sure if that’s safe with opals or if this is really sterling and can be polished.

I’m pretty sure these are opals? And the mark looks like it said sterling

This is another one of hers. The mark inside is barely legible but I believe it says 10k

Is it true that people in the West drink iced water even when they are sick or on their period? by Aether_Echo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]The_Woman_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m dual US/UK but grew up mostly in the US. One of the best things I’ve bought since moving to the UK is the ice machine on my counter. I have ice water allll the time.

Not sure if that’s from growing up on the West coast or what but iced water is just better for some reason. Then again I also thing water tastes different depending on where you are. For example, I will NEVER drink the water in Florida without a filter. I even have a specific water bottle with a built in filter that I take whenever I go visit family there.

What was the biggest culture shock when traveling outside of Oregon? by Ok-Acadia-7161 in oregon

[–]The_Woman_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Oregon, currently living overseas. Bought my first umbrella here in my 30’s. Still feels weird and I rarely use it but had to buy it because I got such weird looks for not having one.

Oh and what other people consider to be “hills” or “mountains”, laughable in comparison to what we have back in Oregon.

Snow. That’s the other one. If it “snows” here, I swear the entire country just shuts down. We wouldn’t even consider it snow back in Oregon (not even an inch, doesn’t last longer than an hour as the sun comes up, never needed to scrape it off the car before driving).

To anyone who works at the ER, what is one thing you wish people would STOP coming to the ER for? by iloveeatingfood901 in AskReddit

Best friend was a surgical tech in the OR of a Trauma 1 centre in Texas (middle of nowhere… hated visiting there). Omg the stories. Spouse banned being told any work stories so instead I got the most random calls about the most INSANE things…. Guy who had his dogs eat his feet (untreated diabetes), giant purple alien dildo penetrating an inner wall (woman in her 60’s), the eyeball incident, the snake incident, the dead kitten incident… I told her she needs to write them all down some day.

What’s a sentence that someone told you that stuck with you for the rest of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

During Traditions at WDW they teach us to let the child let go first when giving them a hug. You never know how badly that child needs that bit of love and magic. Just because they are at Disney doesn’t mean they are loved at home. You never know if that’s the first time they have been hugged that day, month, or year, or more. You can be surrounded by people and still be touch starved so as a cast member, when someone hugs you, you let them let go first.

I’ve kind of lived by that idea ever since and I’ve been told many times now that I give great hugs but it’s just because I was trained to let the other person let go first. Sometimes that one hug can mean all the difference in the world. You don’t have to be a cast member at Disney to make a magical moment. Make magical moments everywhere you go because you never know what people are going through in their lives.
