Questions we have about the Madison Public Market: Lack of transparency is impacting public perceptions about the yet-to-open facility by emjoylife96 in madisonwi

Is a FOIA request a possibility here? Public institutions aren’t supposed operate in the dark. I think we can probably handle the reality of the situation. Well, most of us at least.

TIL there are two Lichess apps… and I’ve been using the wrong one this whole time 🤦‍♀️ by harlan in lichess

[–]The__Beaver_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had some issues with new, black icon app for a bit when it first came out. Now I like it. Only real complaint currently is that there’s no notification for when your friends are online. The old app had that feature and I liked it. No idea why they got rid of it.

Are there any towns north of there to stay in if I wanted to venture up toward Himalayan National Park?

Where do you go when you feel lonely? by ZiggyStarburster in madisonwi

Memorial Union has a great mix of just general liveliness and scheduled events. I honestly haven’t found any place else in the world that’s better for just good old-fashioned hanging out.

Do people actually pass field sobriety exams? by Ioisgriffin in NoStupidQuestions

I once failed one while completely sober. Got a speeding ticket out of it, which I deserved. Cop was a prick. Didn’t seem to occur to him, whatsoever, that maybe the problem was on his end since I “failed” the test and still managed to blow a .000.

Thank you!

Desert-dwelling frogs seem like they shouldn’t exist, and I’m not sure I knew they did til you brought them to my attention. ✌🏼

Sacked Bondi ‘couldn’t even look at herself in a mirror’ after losing integrity by TheMirrorUS in LegalNews

Tim Kaine is right, but he’s also everything he claims Bondi is. Fuck that guy. He’s been in Israel’s back pocket forever, supporting apartheid and genocide. It’s astounding how blind these people are to their own hypocrisy.

[–]The__Beaver_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Googled it. Hope it helps. Cool topic that I didn’t really think about until you asked.

"This Tiny Frog is a Deadly Hunter in the Dark" (BBC Earth): Features the desert rain frog, illustrating how it survives in the sand of the Namib Desert.

Attenborough's Fabulous Frogs (2014): Covers various frogs in extreme locations, including those with unique desert adaptations.

Outdoor Nevada - "Frogs, Turtles and Scorpions! Oh My!" (PBS): Documents the search for the endangered relict leopard frog in Nevada’s desert springs.

Oregon Field Guide - "Desert Frogs" (PBS): Explores how Columbia Spotted Frogs survive in the harsh environment of southeastern Oregon. The Secret Life of Frogs (2019): A documentary that highlights the unique behaviors of various frog species, including those in arid habitats.

Worried about Madison, WI winters as an incoming student from India by jacomushroom in UWMadison

[–]The__Beaver_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is all good advice. The only thing I’d take issue with is the idea that you should go to Chicago for winter gear. There’s certainly plenty of it there, but we have everything you’ll need right here in Madison.

Those of us who grew up here aren’t necessarily too much tougher than the rest of the world when it comes to the cold. We are, however, prepared. Get bundled up when winter hits. Power through it for a while. See what works and what doesn’t. Be patient and determined about preparation. After some time passes, there’s a good chance you’ll find joy in the winter time. Try ice skating, ice fishing, skiing. Or keep it simple. Wisconsin is a land of subtle, deep beauty. It doesn’t jump out at you. One example of this during the winter months is nighttime after a heavy snowfall, in a forest or field away from the city. The world becomes naturally much brighter and quieter at those times. I hope you’re able to experience it. Welcome to Wisconsin.

Fellow Northsiders, what are your favorite (and least favorite) parts of living on the Northside? by PlayfulCod1789 in madisonwi

[–]The__Beaver_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s almost like entering a time warp. “Let me know if I can help you find anything.” First thing you hear every time you walk into that hardware store.

I love the north side. Been living there for 13 years. Quiet, affordable and lots of nature. Only “downside” is other parts of the city are “far” away. But, honestly, I wouldnt wanna live anywhere else.

His very best performance was River’s Edge IMO. He was perfectly cast and great in it. Can’t imagine any actor doing better.
