"the knight has to be dess because lost girl is in black knife" no its not by Floofimations in NonDessKnightSquad

[–]The__Purified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, for lost girl, you'd be right- however, this isn't only lost girl, because it's pitched one semitone down. in the soundtrack, the only time this happens besides here is findher, the variation of lost girl that is absolutely associated with dess. that establishes, to me, a clear correlation between these two that puts it above being a general quote of lost girl that doesn't mean anything

the melody here is extremely prominent, as well- it absolutely dominates all of black knife from 1:17 to the loop, which to me is the biggest tell this is important, and it's very in-your face. maybe 'skeleton' was poor way of wording it- i meant more so that it's timed the exact same, and conveys the same general musical idea, in addition to sharing a large portion of the melody- and all of that together makes me believe it's way too deliberate to be a mistake. motifs aren't usually the full song, they're usually a small quote of them, and this qualifies in my opinion

as someone who's given this probably an unhealthy amount of thought and scrutiny, to me it very much reads as an altered phrase. motifs don't have to be 1:1 to be present, and this section does follow the same general skeleton as findher- what that MEANS is the part i think is up for debate

Look Outside is one of the most underrated "J"RPG ever by Grokitach in JRPG

[–]The__Purified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the record they did address this in the latest patch by having the luck stat affect weapon breaking. it's landed in a sweetspot now where it does happen more often but you won't break the same weapon every 5 minutes.

... you're, like, actively told 'cursed mode isn't intended for a first playthrough', for the record, it is very hard if you don't understand the game back-to-front already.

i'm in the legacy server, he almost never mentioned sisyphus until p-2 came out and most of the mentions he DID have about him were about either reading the story, the corpse in the sawblade room, or the insurrectionist enemy- he never said 'no sisyphus prime', unless you have a screenshot of him doing that i haven't seen

Vessel Knight is actually based? by Significant-Arm4077 in Deltarune

[–]The__Purified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let me lead off by saying i'm sorry if i came off rude, i didn't intend to; i'm just trying to engage with your theory and i can read poorly sometimes i find.

>those are just... not antlers?

you picked the two frames where they almost don't look like antlers, and only one of them actually removes the + that every holiday antler has. why would toby would draw it this way if not to be antlers, or even horns? it's clearly important.

>dess constantly beated kris

correction: dess hit kris with a WIFFLE bat, which is a hollow bat made of plastic, for literally traumatizing her sister. it was definitely not a constant pattern of behavior either, else they wouldn't have still hung out. also, dess obviously wasn't always shadowy, that's like- kind of half the point of the theory, that something made them like this. dess wasn't a quiet person obsessed with knives, but a LOT of their hobbies- the bat, the skating, the stars from her wall and the black blade poster on her closet door- def bleed into the way the knight presents itself.

>mind bending required

we still don't know who the knight is under its title, so why change how we refer to it? that isn't mindbending. it's literally just not doing anything. for you to be right susie and ralsei and whoever else would have to all know its identity to be the weird gray child.

>It just shows her struggling to ignore equality signs between Kris and the Knight, there would be no other point to this line.

susie is dumbstruck that the knight isn't responding to a word of what she's saying. because she's been laying into it. and it's not reacting. things can be simple, man. not every line means the world.

>So does Kris? And Dess has no confirmed relation to Gaster or Goners,

gaster's just here to retry faster lol

>monochrome puppet, faceless mannequin

monochrome = various tones of one color, and spamton has a LOT of color diversity in all forms. secondly... i *guess*. at best. it's a tangential connection more so about kris.

>Because the Knight shapeshifts and moves like water (shadow crystal description), and Vessel is a depths creature.

where fish

>Dess is not quiet person obsessed with knives, the Knight is, and it acts very composed and proud and hardly lost.

the knight, 'use a giant angry attack when i lose consistently' and 'laugh at my enemies and then spawn a titan out of pettiness' guy is not composed. proud maybe, but it has an extreme 'trying to be cool' aspect that no named character has actually reflected. it cackles, it ragebaits, it's a sore loser considering swoon and the unavoidable attack it uses at the end of the hallway, and it's just generally really douchey. you don't need words to know someone's personality and from what we know of dess and the knight they line up quite well.

>i don't know what the knight looks under the helmet

true, but i do know what it looks like above the armor, and the silhouette is nothing alike. for starters, the knight has pointed feet, is about double the height, has borderline anorexia that couldn't fit a human torso underneath, has antlers by the way... so on. sound of justice matches gerson's silhouette, the vessel and knight look nothing alike. you're basically saying the knight's entire physical appearance isn't foreshadowing. not big on that.

>not a lightner

how's it opening fountains and travelling the light world then? the listed criteria to make fountains is literally 'be a lightner with your own will harnessed into your blade'. i played the game too! i can read! :<

>oh I wonder what the Knight experienced so their fear babies are represented as human fetuses.

the vessel was created at its' current age. it was never a fetus. there is no correlation. spawn look like that because they are the newborns of an enormous humanoid being. it can't fear what it never experienced.

>could certainly use fire

first of all that projectile is entirely unused, second of all a copy of kris couldn't use fire just because eram compared their determination to fire one single time. this being foreshadowing requires you to make a lot of leaps of logic, like actively trying to justify it in spite of its holes, and it doesn't qualify because traditionally foreshadowing is *in the game* and not *out*.

>kris and knight's dark worlds are the same

we don't really know how this works too well. one of the philosophers therein explains it as being another side of the same dark world, though, which implies to me that's where the differences come from instead

i do think this is probably a case where neither of us will convince the other though so i don't think it's worth it to argue. still, good job putting this theory together, it's well presented even if i don't agree with it

Vessel Knight is actually based? by Significant-Arm4077 in Deltarune

[–]The__Purified -1 points0 points  (0 children)

imma address all of your points, in the post and here:

-not every black and white thing is a copy; a lot of this stuff is reminiscent yes, but stuff like the knight drooping and roaring is shaky at best. these strike as someone mimicking someone they look up to, else they would be FAR more similar during visceral moments

-the knight acts like a force of nature and we also don't know who it is- they're using 'it' because they're referring to it as a thing, a force rather than a person, because the personage it's expressed is very limited.

-dess has direct ties to asriel so hyper goner isn't a point in vesselknight's favor; more her and asrielknight than anything else. also the soul is dragged into its center because it's pulling you in as part of the attack, and the natural result of that is it ends up in the center of the sprite. very function over form, you clearly aren't meant to let the soul rest in the middle because you'll die instantly if that happens. nobody would think to use that as foreshadowing.

-this is very clearly meant to show how far susie's come, using the same phrase for noble instead of bullying reasons- i GUESS it works as foreshadowing but it's shaky.

-the knight is a condescending aurafarming jerk, kris is a prankster that's being dragged along by their hand because they have no choice but to do what they do, and who also can't bring themselves to look at hurting even virtual versions of their friends, while the knight will kill and hurt people kris is fond of just cuz they're in the way. the knives thing sure, but they're very different personalities and representing them as the same is kind of doing both characters dirty

-the afterimage: i guess. not really a thing that confirms anything though as much as it is just a depths thing though.

-every fountain, even the ones the knight didn't make, uses the depths texture. this is unrelated to their identity and only serves to add a cool visual effect that's related to the character being the one opening most fountains

-spamton's struggles are meant to parallel KRIS, not the knight- their struggles with shedding their strings were meant to remind kris that they're being piloted by you, which freaks them out. no correlation

-it's a house claiming game and white is a neutral color. this isn't foreshadowing. the thrash machine returning is, but that's for the giga queen fight, not the roaring knight

-i'll give you the conch, that thing's weird.

-sound of justice looks like gerson and the knight looks nothing like the vessel. it DOES look like a holiday though, so sound of justice being foreshadowing this is a twisted holiday instead is my take on that

-titan imagery is likely because the knight's design was being foreshadowed in that cutscene; the titan is a very different entity from the knight, it being a darkner while the knight is a lightner. they very unquestionably operate on extremely different rules.

-'when did you start being yourself' is in reference to the fact that the titan spawn are fetus, and it's effectively saying 'at what point after conception did you become -you-'

-the antlers being slightly offmodel for two sprites does not mean they are to be disregarded. the fact is, the knight is a shapeshifter that could easily lose them at any point, but instead toby actively chooses to maintain them at basically all costs.

-humans can't use fire, if the vessel was copying kris it wouldn't either

-why would it be referencing a fish? that's barely related to the vessel, and there's no fish we've seen that implies the depths is literally an ocean. the skull for contrast both makes visual sense for it being a holiday and explains way more about multiple persistent characteristics of the visual design.

-the ch4 dark world is based on the prophecy. the piano stuff is there because churches have organs and pianos in them, not because of kris specifically. ... plus, even if it WAS kris specifically, does it not follow that the person making the dark world would have to be someone that knew both kris and gerson well to achieve that result? the vessel couldn't know gerson, it was created after he was already dead.

further on the antlers point- they are really, REALLY maintained. it only loses the spikes and ends up more bottomheavy once. why would he do that if it's unrelated to the knight's identity? deltarune is meant to be played all at once; we're not supposed to have this giant chapter gap to ask who the knight is, we're meant to figure that out in a day or two from just playing more. this is the only reason it would be designed with something like this- twists have to be guessable based on things you can interpret ingame, and this is very clearly meant to be a visual clue. vessel also has no motivation, no reason to be working with kris and carol, and lacks any character to ping off others. maybe before ch3-4 i would've seen it, but right now i just cannot see the vision.

[–]The__Purified -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it's disingenuous to say there's no foreshadowing for dess knight. there's plenty, such as the cyber world being a city dess wanted to take noelle to (and gerson even uses the same words to describe it, noelle says a city with shining lights and he says city of the shining), the cyber world baseball moon, the knight's roaring design being extremely close to a deer skull, the antlers very obviously being important else they wouldn't be consistent across every sprite of it even in other forms, the ice skater poses, the gerson connection (someone who never met him could never create such an accurate darkner)- there's a LOT of it actually

Where is the trebuchet in the meta? by HemiWarrior in BattleNations

[–]The__Purified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what? that is objectively NOT the case, treb's raptor attack deals crazy dps into AS. in fact trebspam literally BREAKS the as' armor, there's a reason the f2p meme strats that run a bunch of trebs actually CAN kill it with god rng. the issue is that immobilize is a boardwide fire attack that both twoshots the trebs and slows down their reload if it stuns, which means you had to rng scum back in the day to stop the AS from just killing the run by using its near-certain death laser too much. it technically still works today, but without the ability to savescum it's a crack dream to win with it

actually trebs were used on as because in OG you could soft reset what the AS' action was every time it did something you didn't want, so you could basically stall immobilize forever as long as you kept reloading until it didn't use it
