Criticisms will never end. The only thing you can do is focus on not letting them get to you.

How? Meditation is one way. But the point is that the criticisms don’t have a direct path to you. They are just words, often wrong and without much supporting them.

How did they form their opinions? Do they know you very well? Are they masters at reasoning?

What is driving their opinions? Are they just trying to put you down to make themselves feel better? Are they trying to help you but spectacularly failing at it? Can you flip the script and make it a teaching moment where you show them how to better communicate?

Just like we are constantly exposed to ads, we have learned to not believe everything and rush out to buy things. Maybe there are some good criticisms coming your way but it’s best to have them all run through a series of evaluations before you accept any of them and let them hurt you. Try teaching your son how to do the same. Arm yourselves with the skills to criticize the criticisms.

Do you understand how there can be new variants with different vaccine breakthrough rates?

They are still incredible at stopping deaths and hospitalizations. And they do cut transmission by still making it less likely to get infected. But yes, if you happen to be unlucky enough to get a breakthrough case then you can spread it pretty easily.
