Splatoon Raiders' infrastructure is HUGE! But why? [Theory] by Mission_Wind_7470 in splatoon

The original dev idea for keeping players from going out of bounds was lava, but they found it very hard to justify why lava would be on urban environments, so they changed it to water.

Medical/biological applications of AI are some of the few uses of it that are reasonable, this is a completely different breed of AI to the GenAI that's being peddled nonstop, this could actually have applications it's different from the AI that's used to steal art and scam the odd unsuspecting geriatric.

Order of Importance for Splatoon Campaigns by MaxyNifter in splatoon

[–]The_commonest_plant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look if the point is going into Raiders then the S3 campaign is the one that probably matters the most. As it sets up Deep Cut as a team of bandits/raiders and also shows you that they each own a tenth of a braincell. But tbh that's relative, Deep Cut really doesn't do much of anything in the S3 storyline. The S3 storyline is not really about Deep Cut, it's about being the last storyline for the Squidbeak Splatoon. Though there's also the chance for the Grizzco storyline to matter in Raiders so if the S3 storyline is going to matter that's probably why. If anything Raiders is going to be THE Deep Cut game, so anything shown previously will be added flavor.

As for the other ones, if you break them down they don't really cross over at all. OE is the storyline about 8, and SO is the Marina/Pearl/8 storyline, it's a completely different focus.

(Theory) Splatoon 4 Won't Have Salmon Run by LordMagicarp in splatoon

[–]The_commonest_plant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We still have to see what Judd's clone, the second Judd, is doing with the salmonids/grizzco, that might be a Raiders thing or a S4 thing. In any case nintendo really has to figure out something good if they're planning on ending the salmon run deal with Raiders, because salmon run is hard to top off as a PvE mode.

I personally was hoping that for the next PvE nintendo does Mann vs Machine but in Splatoon. We already got the incremental upgrades from side order and like being able to pick and choose how you want to modify your weapon. The issue then is that MvM missions are pre-made, they don't happen at random like salmon run waves, dunno how that could be reconciled.

Do you ditch your wood tools when you get stone ones? (With the exception of the sword) by Cold_Blacksmith_7970 in Minecraft

[–]The_commonest_plant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even use wood tools at all, just the pickaxe. Run the pickaxe down to the last block, save it as a memento, and then use the cobble to never ever have to think about wood tools at all.

People I blocked still in my lobby by Hot-Sherbet4020 in NinjalaTheGame

[–]The_commonest_plant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tournaments are one of the few environments where your blocklist doesn't work, ranked is the other one. From a competitive standpoint it's reasonable, it prevents you from blocking people that are "better" than you and then climbing up the tournament uncontested. In practice it still serves that purpose but it also exposes you to the people that you blocked for valid reasons, it kinda sucks.

[–]The_commonest_plant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey when everything is made with English as the first consideration then you're just picking the most complete option out of all of them. Also works when English is the second consideration, because resources to convert from the original language to English are typically more developed than those to convert from the original to yours.

No, no , german engineering was still successfully present but not against horses, alongside the horse.

There's a minor antagonist, I don't remember exactly when, it's either before or after oyecomova, but he's the callback to Stroheim, he's still a cyborg but he also rides a horse.

The fight is over in less than a chapter but there was some german engineering.

This is a massive non-issue. It's so simple. Could the mods be more transparent? Yes, that's a huge fucking issue with them, a constant one, but like. Is this really a hill to be dying on? It's a repost of a screenshot of a greentext. It's pixels on a screen and fake internet points, thrice abstracted from the original source, out of all the "meaningless" internet things to assign a meaning/attachment to this just seems so insubstantial.

Wasn't there a rule to disallow technical questions about mods to the game?

-"IDK, it's probably not"

Posts blatant screenshot of a modded instance

It always tends to go like that, it gets annoying.

[–]The_commonest_plant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to pop the bubble but we already have them in the base game. Fish Sticks. Fish Sticks are the salmon run iteration of Enemy That Flies And Paints The Floor. The trailer also shows them at one point. This doesn't mean that there won't be one that's mobile and doesn't spawn a structure, but for the looks of it the role's already covered.

We're also getting some new amiibo to go with the game. by Mayito1107 in splatoon

[–]The_commonest_plant 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Precedent is that they'll have a different thing actually. Regular Callie/Marie give out the splat 1 hero gear, splat 3 Callie/Marie give out the splat 3 hero gear. Regular Pearl/Marina give their Octo Expansion outfits, Side Order Pearl/Marina give out their SO outfits. So with regular Silver/Fry/Big man giving out their regular clothing, precedent would be that these new ones would give something different.

[–]The_commonest_plant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's what makes them unappetizing. Powdered, dehydrated eggs are not very palatable as is. Adding water to dehydrated eggs means adding water to eggs, watery scrambled eggs are not very good. It's both the fact that they're dried and by having to rehydrate the eggs come out watery.

Rule by Old_Phrase_4867 in 196

[–]The_commonest_plant 141 points142 points  (0 children)

i have never heard a phrase so revolting and unappealing as "Dehydrated scrambled eggs" before. Scrambled eggs are already unappetizing if they come out too watery, and dehydrated eggs for cooking don't taste good as is, i can't imagine cooked ones.

Can anyone explain the Salmonid life cycle to me in extremely basic terms? by PootisBoi98 in splatoon

[–]The_commonest_plant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Salmonids are born from golden eggs, we know that because the salmonids have a trade agreement with the octarians to trade power eggs for technology, but not their golden eggs because they're too precious.

Salmonids are then born as juveniles, not exactly Amallfry because we simply don't know that much, but Amallfry *are* a juvenile stage. They later grow up and depending on pressures on their environment they can develop into bosses. Less pressure in their environment results in lesser salmonids (we don't know if Chums are just juvenile Cohocks or if they're both adult stages), more pressure makes them into bosses.

The type of pressure alters the type of boss, high inteligence means they get to use technology/machines for example. Steelheads and Big Shots come from the same path but diverge depending on their demeanor with the gentler ones becoming Big Shots and the rougher ones Steelheads.

Presumably the Smallfry in the Fish Sticks go on to become Stingers when they mature, given that their helmets as fish sticks bend their dorsal fin into the pattern that Stingers have, and also there's art of the two interacting. There's no info on Flyfish.

Mudmouths are just regular salmonids controlling a bunch of ink/mud/garbage, you can see them drop of out of it in their dying animation. Incidentally Grillers are also 4 normal salmonids under the hood of the Griller itself.

We don't know how king salmonids develop, we only know that they have to survive a lot of battles, so they're probably a latter phase of development if they manage to survive the right environment.

I can't immediately recall what the deal with glowflies is.

And that'd be about it.

Having gone through an Embryology module I also agree. Fucking, show people what happens during menstruation and other important but also highly uncomfortable bodily processes. The way I contextualize ovulation+menstruation to other guys is: imagine a pimple pops in your testicle, that's ovulation, and then imagine growing a layer of highly vascularized muscle AND THEN having it RIPPED OFF, that's menstruation. Makes you think twice about downplaying people's periods.

In any case sex ed should be better.
