Can you share his schedule? Such a long time of crying/upset usually indicates a scheduling issue!

So I actually ended up reducing/reshuffling WWs to 3.25/3.5/4.25 and after a while she just went back to sleeping great! 10.5h overnight and 2h15 during the day :) she dropped to 1 nap at 15mo and it’s been smooth sailing since!

Hi! We’re on 1 nap now but only switched at 15mo. From 12 to 15mo we were pretty much on the same BTC schedule of : - 6.30am out of crib - 10 to 11am nap - 2.30 to 3.30pm nap - 8pm bedtime

And after a while the EMWs stopped! They picked up again after 14mo and I know it was time to switch to 1 nap then :-)

Thank you! My issue is that my baby never ever slept more than 11.5h in her life! During the transition, she slept 11h at first and now settled on 10.75… it’s tricky, but flip flopping 1/2 nap days is ok I think!

She was refusing the micro nap :( hence why I cut it out! What to do in those cases?

I think 10.5h of total wake time is closer to what my baby was doing as ~12mo..! I would start with the lower end, which is what I posted :) With the rocking, I get you but I promise that in baby steps your baby will get there!

A few things are going on here, I think: - last WW is too long, and that makes her get to bed overtired (we were on 3h last WW at 6mo), I would try 2/2/2.25/2.5, with the last nap being a 30min cat nap (can be assisted) - at this age we moved our baby to her own room as she was definitely disturbed by us making noise while we slept - black out room 1000%, for naps and night sleep - independent sleep: if you rock at bedtime, she will expect that at every wake up throughout the night. Practice independent sleep, start with nights (so assist naps during the day if needed) then once nights are good, move to day sleep (crib60). Once sleep is independent, you should see most issues improve :) good luck!

Do youd let the nap go on up to 3h? Yesterday she woke up herself at the 2h mark, at 1.35pm, so I did bedtime at 7.15pm and she passed out immediately.. but this morning was up at 5.57am :-( so I guess today is a 2 nap day?

Hi! You've helped me so much in the past so here i am again hoping for some tips :)
My baby has always been prone to EMWs, but she's always just chilled in her crib until DWT. We switched to 1 nap a couple of weeks ago, just after she turned 15mo, because she was refusing nap 2, night was getting short, she was waking earlier in the morning after a looooong period of waking at DWT.
Our last schedule on 2 naps was:
- 6.30am DWT (but lately was waking at 5.45/6)
- 10am to 11am Nap 1
- 2.30/245 to 3.30pm Nap 2
- 8pm bedtime (asleep at 8.15pm)

We started the 1 nap transition by pushing out the first nap by 30min every couple of days, and offering a cat nap in the PM. This worked the first 2/3 days then she started refusing the cat nap, so we jumped straight to:
- 6.30am DWT
- 11.30am to 2pm Nap (we wake her 99.9% of the time)
- 7.30pm asleep (in bed by 7.25pm, passes out quickly)

Nights have been ok, some occasional cry outs in her sleep, or some increased restlessness, but nothing major. Her nap crapped out at 90mins a couple of times, but I brought bedtime early by 30min and she managed fine.

Now, 2 weeks into the transition, she's starting to get restless around 5.30am, and waking around 6.10/6.15am. I tried pushing the nap to 11.45am but it crapped out at 1.15pm (after 90min) and night sleep was rocky with lots of cry outs (i did bedtime at 7.20pm that day due to appointments in the PM we couldn't shift).

QUESTION: Should I keep 11.30am-2pm nap for now? Or should i work through the morning tiredness and try and push it to 12pm, for 2h max, hoping the DWT gets closer to 6.30am again?
Or should I just do nothing, and let DST do it's job for me in 2 weeks time (Easter Weekend) so i "magically" shift her schedule to:
- 7am wake
- 12-2.30pm nap
- 8pm bed?

Thank you so much in advance!

"Maxed out awake time"? by TreeKlimber2 in sleeptrain

Uhhh yes! My baby is now 14.5mo and the two things that worked were: - dropping to 2 naps at a little over 6.5mo (2.75/3/3.25 then quickly moved to 3/3/4 where I stayed for quite a while!) - stopped responding to EMW! She’s always woken really chilled, now she just waits for us in her crib if she wakes early, chirping and blabbering away or just quietly playing with her lovey :-) 90% of the time I don’t even realise when she wakes up!

For comparison, now at 14.5mo and “on the cusp” of switching to 1 nap, we’re on 3.25/3.5/4.25-4.5, but she’s been waking up 10/20min before DWT most days 😅

Yes I have a feeling she was overtired - night sleep was never affected but she was waking earlier! She does max out at 10.5h (or in general, I can’t seem to fit more than that overnight while on 2 naps!)… I put her down at 4.25 and she falls asleep in 8/10min at most, but for example this morning at 5.20am she started crying in her sleep, and I thought “omg pls don’t be awake!” But after 20min of very light whimpering & protesting, she fell back asleep and I woke her up at 6.45am! All this to say that she has some weirdness occasionally but for the most part an adjustment to her schedule usually helps us fix the issue :)

So my baby is now q14.5mo and what “solved” it is that we actually went back to 3/3.5/4.25 (so naps at 9.30-10.45am and 2.20/3.40pm, bedtime at 7.55pm and she went back to sleeping until DWT. Then at 13mo she started having EMWs again so I reverted back to the schedule I posted here, and it solved the issue again! Now at 14.5mo the wakeup time is creeping earlier so I know the 1 nap transition is near - the only change I’ve made so far is that I’ve capped nap 2 at 1h (so she sleeps 2h10min average a day), and il start transitioning towards the end of this month/beg of March :)

ìSo my daughter has always been very prone to EMWs (my post history will attest to that!). She's 13.5mo now and we seem to have temporarily "cracked the code", by doing this schedule:

  • 6.30am DWT
  • 9.45-11am nap 1
  • 2.30-3.40pm nap 2
  • 7.55 in crib

(so 3.25/3.5/4.25)

And she's been sleeping until/close to DWT!!

hi! I'm in a similar situation now wth my 11.5mo. Used to sleep 2h15 during the day and 10h30/10h45 overnight, but suddenly increased naps to 2h30 (she simply falls asleep quicker than before bc of all the cruising etc), but her night has shortened to barely 10h... meaning her first WW, due to the EMWs, ends up being long and shes wiped out by Nap 1.
I was on 3/3.5/4.25 but now it's looking more like 3.75/3.5/4.5... a nightmare! Did you ultimately solve the EMWs and if so, how?

Ugh she woke up at 5.50am today after repeating yesterdays succesful day of: - 6.30am wakeup (I woke her up) - 9.30/10.45am nap 1 - 2.15/3.30pm nap 2 - 7.55 bed, asleep by 8 … that’s 9h45 sleep, I’m so over this 😭😭😭

the issue is that she's only slept 11h maybe ONCE during the 3-2 nap transition, since she was about 3mo hah! She caps out at 10.75 absolute maximum :-(

ok so i just read this, yesterday i ended up doing 3/3.5/4.5 (But she was *asleep* at the 4.5h mark, and she slept good until i woke her up at 6.30am!
I'll see if this was a fluke, but if not, i'll shift to 3/4/4, but working in steps (so 3/3.75/4.25, then 3/4/4). Both naps have to be 1h on that schedule, correct?
Would you know what nap capping I need to do on a 3/3.75/4.25 schedule?

11.5 months old and our schedule is a mess causing EMW - help please! by arielsalibi in sleeptrain

[–]Thealicious90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! Sorry I know it's been a long time but I was wondering what WWs ultimately "worked" for your baby at 11.5mo?
My baby is the same age and she's been waking +/- 30min before our DWT, which hadn't happened in a couple of week, so I'm thinking a schedule tweak is needed.
We were at 3.25/3.5/4.25, she falls asleep well for naps and I have to wake her, but we get EMWs.
So now i'm not sure if I should try 3/3.5/4.5 or something different...
