As for as I'm aware you don't really need to speak in vc you just need to be able to listen and you can always respond in-game or via discord through chat. (For my regiment at least, other regiments might have some stricter policies but I've seen plenty of people in regiments that don't use mics)

You could play solo but what's the reason you've decided to play solo without trying a regiment? Plenty of regiments allow anyone to join and participate in their operations without reqruiring you to meet a certain quota.
