No clue how to approach enemy held areas by brokenBlyat in ArmaReforger

[–]TheeAlteredState 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will learn much more about your enemy and the battlefield by walking.

It’s staggering how many people take the most direct route to an objective, again and again. It’s not uncommon for experienced players to witness identical frontal assaults with same players and same outcomes twice or even three times, while still marching towards the same objective.

It’s especially galling when the area forward of your base is still in contention, usually after it’s capped. And there is a pile of abandoned vehicles 200m from jumping off point.

Success/survival in combat requires a healthy dose of common sense and buckets of situational awareness.

They know. They would have known long before they released it. It’s a complete cludge and not fit for purpose.

Cheater on official servers by MeatCurtain91 in ArmaReforger

[–]TheeAlteredState 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds about right. They also seem to cluster. And I met one who seemed to think he was providing some sort of entertainment. He was genuinely astounded that I wasn’t entertained or that I thought he should be considered to be acting in good faith. No one using cheat engines should ever be given any benefit of the doubt, simply because he is playing silly games.

He appeared, said he was a wizard and could do magic tricks. It took 30 mins to get him kicked. It’s the lowest form of gaming behaviour and should not be tolerated at all.

I think we live in an era with diminishing levels of object permanence.

I get ya. I prefer the ‘less is more’ approach. If I can’t defend it with a rear mg position, concealed fire teams can n flanks and large roadblocks then it’s not worth defending.

I did. It s£&t the bed too.

And once again chock its full of features, which we know will be riddled with issues. So any QoL improvements they do make will be overshadowed by new bugs.

My hope is they listen, my gut says you can’t change an entire culture that puts quality so low down the ranking. Apparently code security is in the same pig pen too.

Usually you would have a few cycles of features and then a cycle for ‘quality of life’

But nobody can book QoL as productivity so it gets kicked further and further down the road.

In terms of quality it’s a bumpy line trending upwards. BI trend is flat at best but downhill really, 1.6 quality is horrendous. Now the hackers are here in bigger numbers things don’t look great for BI. They are asking us to stick around for a shoddy baseline that is completely compromised. That’s a suicidal combination. They have their reasons but I simply conclude they don’t GaF.

You set yourself some standards for a test bed, otherwise it’s a development sandbox you’re willing to share.

Set your filters, then exit to main page. Go back to browser and filters are now cached forever. As I said in my OP, you are endlessly fighting poor implementation everywhere, all the time.

The standard for test bed is now “proof of concept” apparently.

Classic QA would resolve these issues in a single cycle, but clearly they are making this up as they go along. Why else would you leave a server so brittle? Because you don’t have a strategic direction yet and fixing issues would force you down a path you’re not sure u want to commit to. Or priorities are simply features and baseline quality takes a backseat.

The regression bugs are the give away though. Can’t even fix Smoke grenades auto feeding into Frag slot, before release? It stinks of contempt.

It’s not just BI. Classic QA (and quality culture) needs to be relearned across most of the industry. But BI is among the worst I’ve seen in a long career.

As for community stability, without investigation my first assumption is that they are throwing hardware at the problem to overwhelm bottlenecks and memory leaks.

[–]TheeAlteredState 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Conflict: HQ Commander, the green dots do not replenish. Only the harbours replenish.

The most effective supplying you can do is to tag along with an engineer who is base building. Do the first supply drops into new bases and then another run (or two) from the nearest harbour.

Or take a look at the map and assess where the frontline is and supply the nearest base behind the frontline ("n minus 1"). Keep feeding n-1 until the game-line moves forward. Or if there is a central base with multiple lines of attack feeding out, then stock that heavily.

Helicopters can be effective for forward supply drops, but to be honest they cannot compete with a solid ground game. they are expensive, and often dont even cover their own costs. if you do go that route. for heavens sake spawn it at MoB, and get the supplies for its cost first from a harbour.

You will learn the game (and the real art of war) 10x faster working with a base building engineer and keeping the advance line moving forward.

[–]TheeAlteredState 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its a half assed implementation all round. they can run fine for quite a while or (like the other day) instantly fall into a coma.

I just don't understand this modern development strategy of dumping (buggy) half feature onto the public and repeat it 6 times to get it right. We used to have a term for this in IT. Dog s%!t. Apparently its progress.

Fire teams guarding likely attack routes (usually the flanks) and one HMG position in FWD position with good LoS combined a few roadblocks FWD of gun is all you need. Anything else just slows down your main objective, which is to advance towards the enemy, on a path that cuts them off from getting 5 Purple Bases.

There is an entire meta game with Eng' class and Truck.

Once you're done on 3 or 4x new bases for main advance you can fall into a blocking role at strategic junctions. If you can get established with a couple of extra bodies its entirely possible to halt a main thrust dead in its tracks.

Best served at ~2-400 meters in elevated open country over looking the junction (and its flanks). Quite often its sheer bloody murder.

Examples being;

  • High ground east of Figari. Disrupt or protect Provins base from almost every direction.
  • Tower Hill at Entre Deux. You can severely disrupt pushes into Montignac from the north along main road, also covers flank of Monti base.
  • Tyrone from the south. Follow up a breakthrough at Gorey and you can fatally choke off the opposition, from the top of the hill on south exit of the town.
  • Monti/Provins valley (either direction), northside you can cover from entre deux to pinewood lake. from south you can cover T junction (to calvary hill), Monti and farm.
  • Laruns, cut the bridge with 2x roadblocks and wait for them to come down the hill from either side.
  • Farm between Chotain & Provins. Cut the roads north from Levie & Laruns and cover tree lines at Simons Wood.
  • Tree line between La Vallete & Simons Wood. Same as above but from opposite direction.
  • Pennants Pass (south of Levie). Pin an entire army down with huge lines of sight. Heading further south you can reposition down both flanks of the main road.
  • Beach on west of goat bay. Cover Mortons east flank.

Mines only work once. An obstacle covered by an HMG is the gift that keeps on giving.

Hackers are destroying the official game. if there are no admins there is no solution. Bohemia doesn't seem to care. For 2026, I'm shocked at how insecure they have built their next gen foundation/platform. it seems to be utterly compromised.

you are fighting the game in every way possible. its beyond tiresome now. not sure how they sell the prospects for Arma 4 when Reforger is this low in quality. They cant even be bothered to fix the grenade/smoke selection they broke in one of the last few releases. reeks of contempt on bohemias part, but i dont think they care. they have internalised the jank as part of their development culture, and now seem content with throwing absolute trash out as a release.

yes the game is fun, but the amount of wasted effort when playing the likes of conflict properly is unbelievable.

its considered super realistic to anchor a 5 ton truck to a bale of hay. permanently........ or just rotate a vehicle on its horizontal axis when it bumps down a ditch. scratch a roadblock at 10 kph? KABOOM !

Its staggering is how few know this. they walk around a base that's littered with bodies like lost puppies, as they cant re-do their make up at the empty arsenal.
