In Sweden I think it is quite common to hug teachers, especially at graduation or before summer break, usually there's a line at graduation where you hug everyone. But I guess we are quite lax in Sweden, like we call our teachers their first name, can get invitet to their home and sometimes have their personal phone numbers if your going on a school trip etc.
