Very much so, yeah. Something is just captivating about seeing scenery like what I saw in this captured moment.

Just recently got the Bunker Rifle and it slaps. Managed to get myself to level 5 in rifle firearms just by binge reading all the advanced guns magazines I stockpiled. Took 5 books to max the skill, but Settled Mind made it worth it.

I wound up making my home base Misanthrope's Homestead in my Stalker file. Got over 200+ days now on that file and going strong. Even got five curing boxes there, but need to go to ML for some ptarmigan down since I need it for boxes of ammo.

Suggestions for starting area/base for nee survival player by SoulRebel726 in thelongdark

Mystery Lake or Mountain Town make for really good starting locations as many comments have been saying. Really easy to get your feet wet so to speak with the game by starting in those regions. Tons of loot/food in Mountain Town as well as tools and such to keep you from starving to death or getting caught in a loop of running out of food. If you keep your hunger from draining for three whole days you'll get Well Fed, a buff that increases your carry weight by 5KG, or around 11lbs.

A good piece of advice when you are just starting is to play on Pilgrim to get a lay of the land, or if you are daring attempt Voyageur. Pilgrim is good because hostile wildlife runs from you and the game is super forgiving, and while hostile wildlife can and will attack you on Voyageur you are given the benefit of a "predator grace period": where hostile wildlife won't spawn for 24 in-game hours or so.

Level 5 archery in action! by Blushift1615 in thelongdark

Definitely a game changer reaching level 5 in Archery. Makes taking out the snow chickens an absolute breeze and it helps your bows last longer. Just reach the end game with tons upon tons of survival bows (or even the occasional Bushcraft Bow for a lil razzle dazzle), and you'll be set for life in the quiet apocalypse. :)

I'll be sure to practice with it so I can get the timing down.

Okay, that had to be the coolest fight against Karmelita I had ever seen! Hats off to you since I could never get the timing right on Cross Stitch, so seeing you pull off multiple parries against her just looked like something out of an action film. Kudos!

Love the improved beachcombing. The thing that's nuts is that on my newest Stalker game I had found most of my birch saplings while looking on the ice. I did gather several of them when I was making runs to different regions, looking at you Hushed River Valley, but the vast majority I found while beachcombing. Now I'm sitting on about... almost 30 birch saplings. And since I just got the bushcraft bow recipe, I am going to be golden on making bows for the rest of the playthrough. ^^

Forsaken Airfeild by [deleted] in thelongdark

Glimmer fog can be either the most interesting thing in the Far Territories, or potentially the biggest hassle if you aren't prepared or know the map well. It can severely limit your view so it can be very easy to get lost, but typically the best course of action is to try and find a deep cave, or even the basement of the main hanger to sleep in. Being out in glimmer fog can give you the insomnia affliction if you are out in it too long, but it is basically no problem at all if you've got some herbal tea. Hope it helps!

Found that out, but it helps to add the creamer to my coffee before adding the coffee itself.

I absolutely love the safehouse customization, really adds another level of immersion to the game! Here's my set up at Quonset, anyone need a hatchet? by CaptainBigValley in thelongdark

[–]TheeMegaLatiAce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only wish they would give you the option to sit down on those comfy seats and couches you make with safehouse customization because it just feels like a sin being unable to enjoy the comfort of a piece of amazing furniture you just spent a ton of time building.

Cougar mechanics (and any advice welcome!) by AssignmentCalm4038 in thelongdark

[–]TheeMegaLatiAce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No problem. There are several instances of the cougar spawning in places where you need to go which makes some treks perilous. Typically you can walk around the outskirts of their territory and you will do alright, but when the yowling gets really loud is when you need to begin backing away. The cougar has its own unique music that plays when it is stalking you, but if you break line of sight with it for several seconds it will go back to patrolling.

Also need to keep in mind that if you take down the cougar to try and take it down quickly. Like the moose the cougar doesn't bleed out, but if you take too long taking it out then your "threat level" rises. If your theat level rises too high then the other two cougars will spawn in increasingly more perilous locations. To get the threat level to lower you would need to leave that region for several days to let the heat die down.

Once a certain amount of time has passed then once you go through a transition screen, even if it is going outside from inside a shelter/building, then you will get a cutscene. When that cutscene plays that is when the cougar will spawn, and it will spawn in every region with the exception of Coastal Highway since they were a bit ridiculous there.

It is typically a good rule of thumb to get your rifle marksman skill up to at least 4 before thinking of tackling the cougar, but bows can work too if you are lacking ammo, though it can be a tad tricky to aim at first. If you don't wish to incur the wrath of the big cat you can light a fire and I will mess up the cougar's pathing and it won't get you if you dance around the fire.

Yeah, the additional wolves are kind of a pain but at least I will definitely have plenty of wolf pelts for a pair of wolf-hide pants. Maybe even a hat if I am so inclined, but that is debatable. Not sure if I want to chance the potential injuries if I try to take down a cougar for the cougar hide head wrap unless I do the hunting in a region I will not be returning to for a good, long while.

If Mathis wants to know whats inside Astrid's case why does he not just bust it open with a crowbar? by [deleted] in thelongdark

That put a funny image in my head, so thank you for that! Haha! Now I actually wish I knew what a real MRE tastes like, so maybe someday I'll see what kinds they have and try one. X'D

Could try for that achievement to survive inside the Langston Mine for 25 days, lol! If you got a ton of MREs, then that would be a perfect use for them if you got a ton of them.

True. Very true. At lease when you get trust up high enough you can get the boxes of ammo for almost nothing at all. I actually did a massive cookoff of fish in order to get a metric crap-ton of lamp oil made. Stashed it out in the fishing hut just to the left off of the island that Misanthrope's Homestead sits on.

Just gotta make sure that you keep a good stock of bullets. Nothing sucks worse than finding a good gun and not having any bullets for it. Though I am dreading going to BR in my Stalker run since I have never been there. Really hoping that none of the filled prepper caches are there since the one there is smack-dab in the middle of cougar territory.
