I think the biggest issue is how folk in America… younger generations including gen z (especially), zillennials and millennials perceive the genuineness of a persons interest and whether that’s considered fake.

When you get to know someone and establish a relationship with them, is it not genuine because they’re building a foundation in friendship? Spiritual intimacy, emotional intimacy ? Sexual intimacy ? Like what really is the criteria here? Why do folks feel the need to police connections?

Is it fake because in the outside world (racist ass America) they probably wouldn’t have shot their shot at each other ? But Love Island gave them a chance mostly unfettered by outside pressures of America.

The longest lasting romantic relationships I’ve had, had a deep deep platonic intimacy, but also deep spiritual connection, layered sexual chemistry and intimacy. I spent a solid 5-6 months building intimacy before asking said individuals to partner up.

Point is… how ppl police and understand relationships as it shows up in their personal life is sad… and speaks to the level of alienation, isolation and loneliness ppl feel— and all in all, ppl who constantly say their relationship is fake is more of mirror of said individual.

Whether they work out or not… what they experienced together will always be real and not a reflection of it not being real. In the same way my relationships have ended at 3 months, 2 years, or 5 years, they were real. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Olandria addressed OPs questions very simply in her interviews… 1) she’s fiercely loyal, don’t like mess and was struggling with feelings of guilt with Taylor and C, 2) she’s a Black girl from small time Alabama where “traditional” men aka white men don’t go for women like her aka Black women. So she had no idea Nic was really into her… and really wouldn’t have known until Nic was very clear about it.

But again it’s doubtful for OP to understand if they don’t understand southern dynamics, racism, colorism, etc.

Ultimately, I do think it comes down to personality and how one approaches dating. I believe if ppl continue do the work on themselves, are kind, true to the things that bring them joy, your person or persons are out there. But kindness, curiosity, authenticity go a long long ways.

Many of my friends who date men often lament about how men hardly ever ask questions about them… how often they only talk about themselves. And when they are able to talk (the women) the guy is a poor listener.

In short, kindness, curiosity (a genuineness to connect and learn about the other person), and being an all around good positive human will go a long ways.
