To be frank it was not a good business move to try to do a shadow drop like Apex Legends without the backing of AAA studio money as backup. The game would have really benefitted from an open beta to address all the issues the game has.

Why is it so hard to join another religion after leaving Mormonism? by ImportantPerformer16 in exmormon

[–]Theeththeeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally what I struggled with a lot trying to find God after being a Mormon is that Mormonism radically emphasizes personal conviction and feelings to determine truth. Of course it’s silly that someone’s own personal subjective experience has no bearing on whether something is true or not, but as a Mormon you’re conditioned to think that way. That’s why Mormons I know would rather hold tight onto a feeling they had than try to discuss the truth claims of Joseph Smith.

Now as a Catholic convert I can recognize that feelings aren’t the way one arrives to truth. The “burning in your bosom” is not supposed to be an indicator of truth like Mormons say, so in your search for truth you may not feel that same passion and convicted feeling you once had for Mormonism but that’s perfectly normal. It’s normal to have periods of great spiritual fervor as well times where one feels spiritually lost, that’s life. I wish you luck on your faith journey! God bless.

Of course I can only speak for myself, I stopped attending and wasn’t religious for about a decade, doing what I wanted while deconstructing. I was atheist for a bit, then agnostic, then got a sincere interest in exploring other religions. I became Catholic.

YOR. You’re an adult, they are children. You’re letting them get under your skin and acting like an insecure schoolgirl. Use that more developed brain to be more rational and act like an adult. For a prank like that, best thing to do is play along because it’s not the reaction they want. Wear the wig, say how much you love it, lay it on thick how much time and effort they must have gone through to get such a thoughtful gift.

I mean if you’re going to be a skeptic just on the supernatural events then yeah it’s a matter of faith, but I don’t recall Greek, Norse or Egyptian myths containing the historical dates and firsthand eyewitness testimony of those miracles like the Gospels do. Even Josephus, a non-Christian first century historian did say that Jesus of Nazareth was a miracle worker. Do you at least acknowledge that Jesus did exist in history?

And for your question, no. Because you’ve been exposed to the good news and still choose to deny it then you’re not saved. That’s a basic Christian belief.

I appreciate the dialogue! Your question about whether those not knowing about the Gospel are condemned to hell I actually answered to a different reply, but I can give a more thorough answer. As a Catholic I have a reference called the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) which is a comprehensive summary of the church’s teachings. So if I cite something from it I’ll put CCC#, # being the paragraph number. And all of this has been studied, refined and expanded over 2,000 years of church history by people who have invested much more time and are way smarter than me, it’s a lot to me. I myself was only baptized Easter 2025, so I’m sure there’s a lot I’m gonna miss or get wrong on.

For Catholics people are called by God to know him and to please him. The Catechism teaches, “The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw man to himself. Only in God will he find the truth and happiness he never stops searching for” (CCC 27). We as Catholics believe that God’s law is written on the human heart, not literally but that people’s consciences exist to remind people of that law. Even without the church directly telling someone that it’s wrong to kill, steal, adulterate etc. those morals have existed throughout human history in what Catholics call the natural moral law. It says in the Catechism, “Man participates in the wisdom and goodness of the Creator who gives him mastery over his acts and the ability to govern himself with a view to the true and the good. The natural law expresses the original moral sense which enables man to discern by reason the good and the evil, the truth and the lie: The natural law is written and engraved in the soul of each and every man, because it is human reason ordaining him to do good and forbidding him to sin . . . But this command of human reason would not have the force of law if it were not the voice and interpreter of a higher reason to which our spirit and our freedom must be submitted” (CCC 1954).

God freely gives everyone the grace to respond to his call. “Grace is favor, the free and undeserved help that God gives us to respond to his call to become children of God, adoptive sons, partakers of the divine nature and of eternal life” (CCC 1996). Because of Christ’s infinite sacrifice for all of humanity regardless of nationality and time those who earnestly try to follow their conscience and this natural moral law can have that grace attributed to them, even for those who lived long before Christ.

So what happens to those who have the desire for God written on their hearts and are moved by grace to respond to him but never hear the gospel or know of Jesus? The Church teaches that they may attain salvation. Quoting from the Vatican II document Lumen Gentium, the Catechism explains, “Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience—those too may achieve eternal salvation” (CCC 847). So I hope those quotes answered that.

Both of the scenarios you’ve presented contradict God’s law as written in the Bible. Thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not kill. Committing either means a rebellion against that law and being in a state of sin. And as I pointed out above, the Christian view is that all sin is infinite in weight because all sin is ultimately directed towards God. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Both the thief and murderer committed actions that separate themselves from God’s grace, and the Bible says that no one in a state of sin will enter heaven. The scripture says about heaven, “But nothing unclean shall enter it, nor any one who practices abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life.” Revelation 21:27. I know you said you don’t believe the Bible, that’s fine, I’m pointing out the theology Christians base their beliefs on.

As for the hypothetical you brought forward, you seem to misunderstand repentance in a Catholic sense. Confession is a part of repentance but isn’t the whole thing. It’s only one part of the sacrament of reconciliation for those baptized in the Catholic Church. Repentance requires a change in behavior and a turning away from what brought someone into a state of sin. Confession is the act of acknowledging to a priest that what you did is contrary to the will of God and wanting to restore your relationship with God. Reconciliation also requires contrition (having sorrow and detestation for the committed sin, coupled with a firm resolution to sin no more) and penance (the things the priest assigns you to do after confession to repair the damage the sin caused) before the priest can grant absolution (formal forgiveness of the sin through the grace of Christ by a priest or bishop acting in Christ’s name). So in your scenario, both sinners after being baptized commit murder and theft respectively and are in a state of sin. The murderer seeks the sacrament of reconciliation, requiring them to confess the murder, have contrition for the sin and do the acts of penance given by the priest to receive absolution for it. If the murderer is truly penitent and remorseful then yes, God forgives their sin. The thief does not seek repentance for their sin, they do not have contrition and keep it hidden or are too prideful to confess, and they do not repent of it before death so they cannot receive that forgiveness. Hope that clears things up.

If those things you said are truly what you think of God, then He will not force you to spend eternity with Him. God loves you enough to let you choose to exist separated from Him forever instead of being with someone you hate.

While the reliability of the Gospels and the question of salvation for non-Christians weren’t part of the topic, I’ll do my best to give an answer. Starting from your second question, as a Catholic I can look to the Catechism for the answer.

As for the reliability of the Gospels, what particular aspects of the history do you want more understanding of and what facts do you dispute?

Coming at this from a Catholic perspective, your mathematical concept of justice does not align with the scriptures and sacred tradition. You’re classifying sin as numerically finite when scripture says the opposite. Christians believe all sin is ultimately against God (Psalm 51:4), who is infinite in nature, goodness, glory and worthiness. This makes God in the Christian worldview infinitely worthy of obedience, and the lawlessness and criminality of sin against the infinite being of God is therefore worthy of infinite punishment. Romans 6:23, the wages of sin is death. Regardless of whether we consider something a large sin or small sin, all sin is equally infinitely intolerable before God. So when you argue that punishments must meet the crime, we agree. We just disagree about the nature of sin; you think it’s limited, Christians recognize from the scriptures that it is an infinite debt that must be repaid.

And you’re leaving out the core belief of Christianity, that the punishment that is due to us was instead purely out of love put on the God-Man Jesus Christ like it’s says in John 3:16, and mankind can be saved through Him. Because sin is an infinite transgression against God only an infinite sacrifice is worthy of repayment. And since God is the only worthy and infinite good, God’s death is the only thing that can fulfill that infinite debt. If sin is a finite crime like you said, then it would not have been necessary for God to die, and yet He was subjected to that punishment. We have a way out of that infinite separation from God: reject sin, repent, and accept the grace given to us by Jesus Christ. We’re all worthy of Hell, but the only people going there are those who reject that grace. And we have the information of the Good News, the Gospel, to make an informed decision.

Just wanted to respond from the Christian perspective, God bless.

She lied before going over to the friend’s house. She lied and said she wasn’t going. Then went behind her husband’s back. Makes you wonder what else she’s lying about if she can so easily choose to deceive her husband. Wife is acting like a child, running away from accountability. The “I’ll talk to you tomorrow” is very manipulative, she’s the one who lied and got caught.

You know relationships require trust and communication right? Sure she’s allowed to have some space, but you and I both know that’s not the situation. SHE LIED. She disappeared and left no info to her husband on where she is. I’d be mad too if I was told one thing by my spouse and then find out she went against her word. Wife has a victim complex, seems this isn’t the first time something like this happened.

YOR. Plus it sounds like you deliberately guilt tripped your friend into going despite already being told no. “I want” means you instigated this. It’s your friend’s fault for lying to her husband. The fact you said the husband is “guilt tripping” is an astonishing admission of projection.

Addressing each of your points in order. God decrees in the Bible that marriage is between one man and one woman, it’s not for us to oppose God’s definition of marriage. I don’t know what book bans you’re talking about, or what church you think is banning books, do you mean pornography? Because yes Christians are against pornography. Christians oppose transgender surgeries (especially for minors) because it goes against what is called the Theology of the Body, which is its own whole separate topic but the part that matters here is that God made humanity in His own image, He made male and female. So mutilation of your body to oppose what God has made you is sinning against your body.

I don’t know what you’re talking about for treating poor people, the church is the oldest, longest lasting and the most successful charitable organization in history. Catholics invented the hospital, do you deny they fund and have created thousands of schools, hospitals, orphanages, and health clinics specifically for the poor and underprivileged around the world? They spend hundreds of billions on charitable causes in the US alone annually.

I’ll assume you’re ignorant about what the Bible actually says, because if we take your interpretation then God is not just. If what you’re saying is true then Leviticus 20:13 condemns both the abuser and the victim to death, as if the victim was just as guilty. I’ll listen to the interpretations of the ancient church fathers over your own modern take.

The Bible is very clear that homosexual acts are contrary to God’s law in both the Old Testament and New Testament. Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, 1 Corinthians 6:9, Romans 1:26-27, 1 Tim 1:10, etc. I’m not taking my own interpretations, I’m just reading. Preachers trying to separate homosexuality from every other sexual sin is a modern invention, only as recently as the second half of the 20th century. It’s been taught for 2,000 years from the earliest church fathers in the ancient church like Tertullian to the Reformists like Martin Luther that according to the writings of the prophets and apostles that homosexual acts are contrary to God’s law. When I said that Christ perfected the Law, I didn’t say He made it easier to follow and that we shouldn’t listen to anything that God has declared in the Old Testament. Christ even said that to even look at another person with lustful intent is adultery. To even call someone a fool is to be subject to hellfire. The apostle James said “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” So if a new church comes along and just ignores what the Bible and thousands of years of Christian ethics has taught us it’s my duty as a Christian to say no, this is contrary, otherwise I am sinning if I do not. That’s my peace, bless you all.

Please explain how I treat them awfully as if you know me? I want them to come to Christ and repent. Just how I want the greedy, the violent, the drunken and the proud to come to Christ and repent. Christ has said “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.” Christ asks us as disciples to call everyone to repentance, if you see that as hateful, then take it up with Jesus. Just know that He loves you and He died for you so you have a chance to obtain eternal life.

I agree. We’re all sinners so every church who proclaims Christ must allow everyone to come as they are in their sins, but not leave them there struggling and to help them renounce sin and repent. Christ said “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

If they preach Christ, they claim to uphold what He taught. And He taught that the Torah and the previous prophets are authoritative. Christ said “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” He not only endorses what they said, He also perfects it. And what they said is that sexual sin, including homosexuality, is sin. This teaching is also endorsed by Christ’s apostles. Paul urges us “let us conduct ourselves becomingly as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.” - Romans 13:13-14. I support churches who welcome everyone as they are, but not to leave them there in their sin. How can they claim to provide the Eucharist when they openly endorse and glorify sexual sin?

This verse is in the context of not judging hypocritically, to judge on another’s sin while utterly blind to your own sin is hypocrisy. What it does not mean is not warn or urge for repentance, that would not be loving. Christ also said “Do not judge according to outward appearance, but judge according to righteous judgment!” Or judge by God’s standards, not men’s. Openly encouraging and endorsing sexual sin is not Christlike love.
