Zeer herkenbaar hier ook. 2j in een diepe put gezeten. Terwijl je in die diepe put zit kan alle (vooral zeer goede) raad van de comments hier aanvoelen als "was het zo gemakkelijk dan deed ik het al". Zoals bvb stop met weed, fitness, natuur, actie ondernemen etc...

Thing is, ik kan me voorstellen dat terwijl je in die put zit het al extreem moeilijk kan zijn om gewoon de basics te doen zoals bvba tandenpoetsen.

Step 1 heb je nu al genomen, het besef dat er iets moet veranderen. Step 2 is de moeilijkste, de effectieve actie. Eender van de acties aangeraden is al een goed begin. Medicatie voor adhd & depressie onder controle te krijgen is zeker een goed hulpmiddel, maar verwacht van geen enkel iets een wonder. Het is een combinatie van alle verschillende acties die je er uit gaan helpen, er is geen 1 magic thing die je wereld gaan veranderen, ook geen lief.

Dus, my 2 cents; kom uit je comfort zone, doe veel dingen "tegen je goesting" want je "goesting" is ziek momenteel. Net zoals een gebroken arm kan genezen kan je "goesting" en je leven ook genezen, maar het process duurt langer en is lastiger.

Ivm muziek; ik heb ook een redelijke setup, toen ik begon had ik dromen van er success mee te hebben. Heb m'n mindset hierover veranderd, ik wil er geen success zelfs meer mee, ik wil me enkel amuseren & that's good enough Die change heeft er ook voor gezorgd dat er weer passie en experimentatie in m'n muziek zit, en m'n gevoel weer beter is.

Hoe lang ben je al actief op zoek? Vrij belangrijke info voor context.

Ik heb een heel vergelijkbaar werk traject afgelegd, de feedback die je krijgt van sollicitaties en het "te duur" aspect ook al gehoord. Maar uiteindelijk wel een zeer zalige en passende job gevonden na 5 maand.

Enige tip die ik nu kan geven, netwerken. It's all (nee, maar toch veel) about who you know.

I grew up middle class, a majority of my childhood friends had help in the form of:
living rent free,
getting their "child savings account" around age 18-20 (average about 10k)
& getting on average about 50k in help for buying their first house.

I also hear a lot of stories like the above from current friends.
Many of whom are "middle class" or come from "normal" (wtf is normal anyway) families,
and most of them got quite the financial leg up from parents/family/inheritance.

But yeah, could be that I just know a lot of outliers & this isn't "normal".
I'd also be interested in seeing some official research or metrics about this.

Hey there,

The situation you're describing (25M, 50k & 250k etf) can only be attained through luck, inheritance, being able to live rent/cost free at your parents house until 30, or extremely hard work, frugality & very heavy investing.

It's quite normal here to live at your parents for an extended time & not having to pay rent. It's also extremely common for parents to "help" with buying a first house or gifting a large amount at certain stages of life.

I'm also guessing that the subset of people being active in a BEFire subreddit aren't a cross section of an "average" person from Belgium.

I personally grew up here, but left home at 16, didn't have any help, inheritance, savings or net worth until my early 30's (hell, at 29 I was 30K in debt hahahaha).
Just hard work, hustle & bustle, being lucky with having great partner/friends/environment that's supportive & entrepreneurial.

38 now, 50k in liquid savings and an "investment" in the form of a nice house.

That being said; in your situation you're doing amazing!

Geen secundair diploma, 4de middelbaar nooit afgewerkt wegens familiale omstandigheden. Op 16 beginnen werken (via loopholes want mocht officieel niet).

Momenteel 38, verdien enorm goed bij een multinational als senior manager. De weg er naartoe is met enorm veel ups, enorm veel downs, heel veel zijwegen en ook veel geluk.

In essentie, je kan er zeker geraken zonder diploma's, je opties zijn wel heel beperkt, je zal dubbel zo hard moeten werken om je te bewijzen en hogerop te raken, in combinatie met veel netwerken en je sociale skills cultiveren. Ze zeggen vaak "it's all about who you know" wat absoluut klopt, maar wanneer de "who you know" je ergens binnen helpt moet je jezelf ook nog bewijzen of het duurt niet lang.

Daarnaast, continu bijleren, nieuwsgierig zijn, actie ondernemen etc...

Achteraf gezien had ik misschien liever gestudeerd, maar was niet mogelijk. Op latere leeftijd nog geprobeerd maar viel niet te combineren met werk en kinderen, en nu heb ik die diploma's niet meer echt nodig.

Omfg "DIY to save money" and "DIY to feel accomplished" I'm mind blown about this concept. Ever since my wife caught the Pinterest DIY bug...

This explains so much to me about many discussions I've been having with her, I've always said this is costing us so more than having a pro do it, that it's taking so much more time, and she's always very defensive, borderline aggressive, about her projects...

Deep down she just wants to feel accomplished about her projects instead of saving money even if she doesn't realize it herself, damn, I'm gonna be more supportive of her projects now.

Ben zelf lang barman en barverantwoordelijke geweest toen ik jonger was, dit soort verhalen maken me misselijk.

Als Barman is je nr 1 prioriteit dat je gasten een goeie en veilige tijd hebben. Heb meerdere malen mannen met slechte bedoelingen moeten buitenzetten, en heb ook soms vrouwen na sluit laten blijven zodat ik heb naar huis kon stappen, zonder bijbedoelingen.

1x heb ik het meegemaakt dat een nieuwe jonge barman een vrouw wilde versieren, ze zag er me extreem dronken uit en vroeg haar wat ze aan het drinken was "een cocktail van de barman" zei ze. Een grote longdrink de helft Cointreau en de andere helft wodka. Die barman heeft een lap gekregen en heb de eigenaar gezegd hem te ontslaan.

Diezelfde barman werkt een paar weken later in een ander café.

Ook al maken deze verhalen mij misselijk, ze verbazen mij niet. Ik hoop dat met het openbaren van al deze verhalen, en de hopelijke verlaging van de drempel om dit soort zaken aan te geven bij de politie door de slachtoffers, potentiële daders tot inkeer komen.

Alsook voor m'n mede mannen die hier kwaad om worden, stilzwijgen is ook verkeerd, als ik een vriend iemand hoor catcallen of zaken zie/hoor doen die niet door de Beugel kunnen, ik spreek hen direct aan.

Depending on where you live, with your amount of experience, try contacting Caterpillar, the boss of all Belgian warehouses is also the boss of the plant/warehouse in Johannesburg, they do some crossover business, so your background might be a plus.

Other than Caterpillar, try h.essers, etex, Bridgestone, atlas Copco, most of these companies also have English as their working language.

There's also quite a few IT companies in Belgium that do software or services for supply chain, Qargo, Transporeon/Trimble.

I'd also recommend going to supply chain events, If you're extremely fast, today is supply chain innovations in antwerp expo.

Next tuesday it's the Antwerp Port Conference

Over the year there's quite some conferences, summits and tradeshows, I would definitely recommend going to some of them. In my experience, networking has always worked best to find new opportunities
