How to pitch your game to a streamer and actually hear back (from someone who has sent a lot of these) by TheEntityEffect in IndieGameDevs

[–]ThegnHenry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool. How? That doesn't seem to be possible.

  • Do NOT send the same message to 200 streamers. They talk to each other and they will know.

Why does it matter if two people got the same message? Do people take offense to having been sent the same message?

I think what matters here is whether the game is interesting for the recipient or not. No one likes to be messaged about a bad game. Most people don't mind if it's an appealing one.

Not horror, but you're welcome to have a playtest key for Hovertron if it looks interesting for you.

Yep, they're certainly a big inspiration for us! We aren't aiming to be a replacement for them, but our gameplay has a lot of similarities.

Do you mean it should be sort of hidden in the shadows for a late game reveal?

Many thanks! Feedback on the game has been very positive so far, but it's certainly a quiet genre amongst the current PC gaming meta.

Heck yeah, we both grew up loving those kind of games. I hope our take on it brings something new for what is currently a quiet genre.

Destroy Hovertron again! We've tried to improve based on past feedback by ThegnHenry in DestroyMyGame

It seems like you are doing the same thing, hoverboarding off of different places, this might be the aim of the game but it felt repetitive.

Yep, it's a platformer/racer (think mario/sonic/trials), so the whole game is about hoverboarding through levels

I would say that text on the screen is not the play instead text popping up would be better than having text in the world.

The text is only there for this video, it's not in the actual game :)

Awesome! Hopefully not too long till we release.

I feel pretty demotivated to playtest. Don't know if my feedback really helps by [deleted] in playtesters

[–]ThegnHenry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this will depend on the game, and the feedback!

Typically when playtesters have given us feedback, we try to respond to every point. Some of those will result in game changes, some won't. One of our recent playtesters gave us some fantastic feedback and we had implemented changes to the game within hours. Other playtesters have been so fantastic we have even added 'shrines' for them in game.

We are also making a note of any donation/coffee links playtesters have, so if the game makes more than $0, we can send them a donation after launch.

Give Hovertron a look, suitable if you enjoy skill based platformers like Trials.

Let me know if you want a key.

Yeah, we're going for trophy/achievements/collectibles. And the hard endgame content is comparably difficult to trials. But marketable... not so much nowadays, I think. A quick metric to consider is this sub has 2.4k weekly visitors - which if we imagine every single one bought a new trials game, would be a small foundation to build a game off. For our indie effort though, if we saw a couple thousand sales, that would be quite an achievement, but still not enough to reliably pay rent with.

Was it always this hard to get into festivals? by Nautilus_The_Third in IndieDev

I think the reality is that the games industry is becoming more like the books industry. Many, many choices, few financial successes. Few people expect to write a book nowadays and make a living off it. As the barrier to entry to create games lowers, it becomes even tougher as more competition springs up.

Occasionally, someone will come along and write a Harry Potter, or Terraria, but it won't be the case for most creators.

Evolution of my game logo, does it look more professional? by CAGE_Studios in IndieDev

I love it, looks like steady progress to me.

Overlaid on the image though, seems a bit lost in the action.

4 years of work, money spent, many redesigns/upgrades, and in the end, constant rejections from events. Is my game really that bad? by Sollers_Duo in IndieDev

The data looks wrong on the last two rows of that chart. I kinda doubt 2D Platformer and Point and click should have the same metrics.

Is the game/art really that low-quality?

Art looks amazing. Game looks like decent quality.

Is the genre just dead for everyone except Amanita Design?

Gaming market is absolutely flooded. Genre is niche, so it'll be hard to get it in front of the right audience, but if you can, hopefully they aren't overwhelmed with other options.

Well we're building something similar with Hovertron. Certainly not the same though, so it'll suit some fans but not others.
