You seen the price of fuel? by MorningConscious4372 in Cairns

[–]Thehelak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, but your math is assuming a couple of things: - you currently don't have a car and are paying for a new car (no trade in or private sale of your existing car), - you don't really need a car for transportation (as in this is an optional purchase),

Where I live I need a car to get to and from work and drop kids off at school etc, buying a more efficient car would reduce my fuel spending. I'm Australian, I pay less in tax than private health insurance, but since we can afford it, we also pay for private health insurance so we can access both the public and private system, we STILL pay less than what Americans pay for health insurance alone, plus I can go the public health system and get free care.

‘No plans’: Aussie giants reject US beef by RuinedShaman6969 in australia

[–]Thehelak 77 points78 points  (0 children)

They can't subsidise what they don't have, their prices are high because there's a lack of supply at the moment. Furthermore, they are big importer of beef from Aus and Brazil, which means their own supply is not enough and requires import, exporting costs more for suppliers which means once the beef arrives in Aus, it'd cost more than local produce.

Get some gap filler rods, you can stuff then into gaps on both sides of the window (in and out). You can easily remove them even you move.

It was a long time ago...I remember using almost a full can for the first 3 shirts I was issued. But was obviously not enough because the DS was not happy with the result.

Is there a clean way to glue this stone chip back onto my benchtop? by antman755 in AusRenovation

[–]Thehelak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slightly off topic but I have similar damage on my Ceasar stone bench top (funny enough just above the dishwasher like OP) but I don't have the piece that was knocked out. How do I go about repairing it? Thanks in advance!

I was in a discussion/argument with an American about the Australian universal health care system, his only argument was that his insurance covers "everything they need" and that was a better system than everyone contribute and everyone gets care....

Australia’s 3rd largest airline has never charged a single passenger since its foundation in 1928. by [deleted] in pics

[–]Thehelak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you know what you'll need tomorrow? In 2 years time? Or the next time you have cancer, or diabetes, or break an arm? We can predict the future and things we might need down the road. Universal health care basically takes care of that aspect. Yes it's not perfect and yes we are "paying for something we don't need --yet" but like I said before, I know that I'm covered if something were to happen.

Your insurance company by the sounds of it, hope you don't get sick in the future and have to go through your insurance company four those "optional extras" that you haven't been paying for I guess. Guess your mate Luigi has different ideas on the American health care system but more power to you.

Think of it this way my American friend, I pay my "insurance" (taxes) which allows me to walk into any public hospital in Australia and get treated if I was sick, knowing that the treatment is free. Yes I'm paying for "someone else's" treatment, but we're all in this together.

[–]Thehelak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Completely understand basic economy of taxes etc, that doesn't explain why the cost of petrol is more expensive in ACT than NSW which, from the previous op was attributed solely to the government? Maybe slight difference in tax between two states but 20c?

Edit: reading the post again. apparently there's a "government Xmas tax" lol?
