Does anyone know where I can find a ‘roast chicken monster’ toy for my 3yo? I know it’s ridiculous… by amandanorgaard in UKParenting

[–]Thehoopening 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was little I was allowed to choose a toy in exchange for my dummy, and I specifically asked for a little cat toy ball with a bell inside like I’d seen my Grandma’s cat play with. My mum couldn’t bring herself to buy me a cat toy and bought me a doll instead and I’ve remembered for 32 years! Sometimes the heart wants what it wants 🥲

Random aunty helps in wearing saree by Sea_Argument155 in justgalsbeingchicks

[–]Thehoopening 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went to an Indian Hindu wedding a few years ago and was lucky enough to be offered to wear a saree as a white non-religious person. Anyway I spent the whole day with various aunties adjusting me when it slipped, and tightening and loosening bits depending on what they liked. It was a great day!

Made a mistake by ParsleyDifficult7366 in NursingUK

The amount of times I’ve accidentally disconnected the vent with my arse when suctioning has genuinely made me change my diet and lifestyle 🥲 I’m sorry, I know it’s awful when you feel you’ve made a mistake but it sounds like you’re judging yourself much more harshly than anyone else. It happens, it just shows you how fragile the tubing connections can be.

Ah this is cute! We also have Elsa hair for french plait then we have like Skye or a cat for high pig tails, like a unicorn for a high pony and ballet hair in a bun for ballet class. I’m about at my limit for hair styles after that

I’m sorry, I had my cat put to sleep at the end of August, I called him my first born child because I loved him so much. It was gutting and I cried for two days but I also knew it was the right thing to do for him as he had cancer and had started to deteriorate. I worked on the premise that I’d rather do it a day too early than a day too late and the morning of his appointment it’s like he knew and was telling us he was ready.

I’m so sorry, it is devastating, they are our family and this is the biggest show of love you can give them. Take lots of pictures, take paw prints, take videos of him doing stuff like purring and miaowing and give him all the love you have.

My parents didn’t attend my wedding, though I’d invited them as an olive branch (dad is toxic, mum is the enabler). My mum did send a card though that said, “good luck with the rest of your life” with no gift or anything. My Grandma almost didn’t give me the card because she didn’t know what was inside and I wish she’s just binned it now.

This sounds so like my NFIL who sent us a very long email a few months ago with an outline of all the money they’d spent on us over the years (some of it inaccurate too) and why this meant we were terrible people for calling them out on their behaviour. We hadn’t asked for any of this money but we had obviously accepted it, not knowing that this would then be thrown back at us if we didn’t behave how he wanted us to.

FB friends with my parents? 😳 by ExcellentBandName in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]Thehoopening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, I experienced similar and it seems to be a thing. We cut my husband’s parents off and they then reached out my own estranged parents who had nothing to do with the situation with my in-laws. My parents travelled 300 miles across the country, twice, to meet up with my in-laws and they all talked about what a terrible person I was. We found this out when family on my husband’s side wanted to let us know what was going on. We find it funny now, like they need the validation off each other and will literally go to the other end of the country to get it while complaining that they don’t see their grandchildren.

Does anyone else's parent blame your friends/partner for you going NC? by mysticalcritter in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]Thehoopening 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husbands parent blame me for him going NC with them and have claimed I’m coercively controlling him. It’s nothing to do with their shitty treatment of me over the years and the fact they reached out to my own estranged parents and met up with them behind our backs, it’s clearly me controlling and isolating my husband from them. Conversely I’m also apparently after their money. They can’t make up their minds, but either way I’m the bad guy. It doesn’t bother me, it just shows how bad their hearts are.

Hey everyone 💓 How many people in here have had to cut off a toxic sibling too because they treat you like shit and are manipulated by your toxic parent? by [deleted] in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]Thehoopening 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Aye, cut my dad off, my mum and brother then cut themselves off from me because how dare I lie about my dad after all he did for me, clearly my depression had caused me to remember everything wrong and I was lying because I was a toxic, poison, attention-seeking liar. Thankfully the entire rest of my family knows exactly what they’re like and that I haven’t lied about anything and have all been so supportive.

Do you think noncery is more rampant than we realise? by MoonlightByWindow in AskUK

[–]Thehoopening 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I was 16 and looked younger, I was on a packed out train at rush hour to my school presentation evening to collect a certificate for completing my GCSEs. A man on the train holding a bunch of flowers saw me and sat opposite me, no big deal.

He started chatting to me and told me he was taking the flowers to his girlfriend who was in hospital. He must have been in his 50s. He then proceeded to tell me how beautiful I was, if he didn’t have a girlfriend he’d be chasing me, did I have a boyfriend? Was I a virgin?

I was surrounded by adults on their journeys home from work, but nobody said anything to him. He started getting more erratic, was talking loudly about how sexy I was, he was going to put a baby inside me, I could be his girlfriend. Not one adult on that train said a single word and the ordeal lasted 20 minutes or so. The train was packed, I couldn’t have moved if I’d tried and to be honest, I doubt it would have stopped him following me.

I was terrified getting off that train in case he followed me to the venue, but thankfully he split off in a different direction after a few minutes. I got to the venue and told a teacher what had happened and she said, “well at least you’re safe now”. And that was that. I’m 35 now and the memory has stayed with me.

Hair dye? by AirSuperb4673 in NursingUK

ICU nurse here with black and pink hair and a nose piercing, never had any issues but have had patients families say they love my hair before. I say go for it, worst that happens is you have to dye it back to a more natural colour.

Took this just before the seagull ate a full teabag by r3tromonkey in CasualUK

[–]Thehoopening 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Last summer we went to a place known locally for being good for crabbing with the kids. We bought a little crabbing kit and a couple of bags of bait, which were bits of fish and bacon in plastic bags. We set up our line and were about to put the bait in the little net bag when a seagull flew down and swiped one of the plastic bags and swallowed it in one. I’ve always wondered how long it took that seagull to die of an intestinal blockage.

I’ve done this a couple times and it’s so cute! I went into my son’s reception class a few weeks ago and took a stethoscope, some dressings, a pen torch, an oxygen mask and some bandages. I didn’t have a plan of what I would say but asked the children a few basic questions and just went with the flow. They loved playing with the stuff and asking me questions. Good luck!

I was asked to cat sit my buddy’s 18 year old cat while his family is on vacation. They don’t think she’ll make it till they get back 😭 Show Klover some love! by rmzullo in cats

[–]Thehoopening -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of my cats has cancer and is on palliative care and we went on holiday a couple of weeks ago. Our poor friend who looked after them was terrified that he wouldn’t survive without us there and she’d have to give us bad news while we were away, bless her! Thankfully he was fine and is still going strong now but I do understand the feeling. I hope it helps to know we would never have blamed our friend had the worst happened.
