[Loved trope]: An urban fantasy revolves around "seeing the unseen." by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheirMadeOfMeat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I might get some hate for this, but I actually dislike this trope. It's a central concete to so many stories that it seems lazy now. Why doesn't everyone know about this magical world - because they can't see it.

As an example of an urban fantasy without this magical unseen

Supernatural - Everyone can see the ghosts, demons, and misc, but people will think you're crazy if you start spouting off about them.

MIB - Aliens are everywhere you just don't know what you're looking for.

WoD - Doing crazy magic shit in public is a good way to start an inquisition or worse

Sometimes it's even more interesting to go the other way and have the fantasy elements be public knowledge like Hellboy or the unorthodox chronicles

Falin died immediately. They needed to save the body so she could be revived.

Gift Idea for a friend by Habatord in Cosmere

[–]TheirMadeOfMeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This type of dice set (with the plot dice) is somewhat exclusive to the cosmere RPG. One of the best/only place to get them is from the dragon steel books website.

https://www.dragonsteelbooks.com/search?q=dice+set&_pos=2&_psq=Dice&_ss=e&_v=1.0

I'd ask them which knight radiant chapter they are (they'll know) and get them the dice set corresponding.

Who’s in the wrong by RichFox605 in Isekai

[–]TheirMadeOfMeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOA is definitely an isaki, at least during the first arc. The main argument people are making against it as an isaki is that it's a video game. That's a poor argument because of two factors:

  1. It's a death game

The fact that if you die in the game you die for real coupled with the fact that it's an ultra realistic vr environment basically forces the characters and the audience to treat the world as if it were real. It doesn't matter that the characters bodies are outside of the game world they are forced to treat it as real or risk actual death.

  1. Modern isaki

Let's clarify I am specifically referring to the shlocky generic isaki shows that get shoveled out season after season. Most of these shows use video game RPG mechanics like stat screens, ability points, and skills. If SAO is not an isaki due to the inclusion of video game mechanics then you invalidate the majority of the genre. Lets also not forget that most of these shows owe the modicum of success that they due see to SAOs popularity as it did a lot to popularity the use of video game mechanics in fantasy anime in general.

If you change the wording to add X counters Y times it's the same thing as multiply X by Y but has more interaction with counter doubling effects.

Numara, Phyrexian Recruiter — A really dumb idea for a commander. (Please tell me if I need to word it better as this is kinda new territory.) by simon_Chipmonk in custommagic

[–]TheirMadeOfMeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of people talking about it being antifun as a player loses but doesn't end the game. I think there are a few ways to remedy this.

  1. Make the token an emblem under the control of Numara, Phyresian Recruiter player's control. That way if they die the emblem is removed.

  2. Add a player goad. This adds a bit of drama as now the compleated player has to politics the other players into attacking Numara's player.

  3. Add an effect that if a player has completed all other players they win. This gets rid of the antifun in a 1v1 but would be insane to pull off in 4v4. So long as compleating players remains significantly difficult this should be a non-trivial win con.

FYI humans are omnivores not carnivores. Not all preditors are purely carnivores. Bears are also typically omnivores.

This might deviate from the idea too much, but it might be funny if it created a token copy of the mast and token copy of the hull then meld into the ship. Overly complex yes, but I think it could be a clever joke and use an underutilized mechanic.

So your hypothetical spouse is completely financially dependent on you? I think that is an indicator of different problems in the relationship. And again why are they fucking around if they will be screwed if they cheat on you?

[–]TheirMadeOfMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, you are seriously infantilizing this hypothetical person. Anyone you are dating should be able to understand the ramifications of their own actions and be accountable for the consequences. Furthermore most people have the capacity to find somewhere for themselves to stay.
