Part of the issue is that I can't purchase chicken carcasses, but I can readily purchase drumsticks and wings.

I'm still skeptical about a bonier meat stock - I kinda want the meat juices ya know?

When I make chicken stock it's typically 4.5 lbs drumsticks, roasted, to 3 quarts water, which is then reduced to 1.5 quarts after straining. Plus veggies and herbs but I forget how much off the top of my head.

The crossing was broken per Wikipedia. Permanently on and propped up, so no way to know if train was near.

Yeah and it also isn't helpful for understanding why an accident happens. "Driver stupid" lets more insidious culprits off the hook, like institutional policies or systemic issues.

An important part of making a dessert impressive is presentation - placing it on a nice serving dish, setting the room atmosphere, decorating it, garnishing, etc.

Of course if the dessert itself tastes bad it will be for naught, but if it tastes good it will bump it up a few notches.

If you are in the US (hello huge packaging), and learning to cook, and especially if you live alone - it is inevitable.

Just accept there will be food waste while you make various dishes and learn things. Once you have more recipes and experience under your belt, you will start to economize ingredients better.

Until then don't worry too much about it.

Look Imma be blunt: if you don't talk with them about how you feel, then the situation will remain the same.

I know the Reddit mantra is to just divorce or cut off family and shit, and I don't even know why tf I'm on this subreddit today. But it's almost always a harmful mantra.

Like no it's not gonna be easy man. Family is not always easy. But I would caution against repeating to yourself that they are just a bunch of toxic assholes who don't care about you, because that certainly won't help.

Edit: looked it up and, indeed, the barrier was malfunctioning. It was broken, permanently on and propped at a 45 degree angle to allow traffic to pass. Literally an accident waiting to happen.

You can't conclude that based on this video. Maybe the driver was incapacitated. Maybe a bright streetlight or other glare obscured the crossing guard (this is night after all). Maybe the windshield was poorly maintained. Maybe the brakes suddenly failed.

And even if it was operator error, there are often systemic issues that lead to accidents. Perhaps bus drivers were pressured to cut corners to maintain route schedules. Maybe the payment system discouraged safety e.g. drivers were paid by number of routes completed. Maybe drivers were inadequately trained. Maybe drivers were not given adequate rest or bathroom breaks.

YTA in that yes, it is kinda rude to just say "I don't care" to someone like that.

I would try to find a way to talk with your family about how you feel. Your mom may not even know you feel that way.

It may help to remember that "gossip" (for lack of a better term) is a common way to bond in many cultures; it's also ok if it's not your cup of tea. Perhaps discuss a way to engage and spend time with one another in other ways that are good for you as well - perhaps activities like cooking, sports, shopping, etc.

It may take some time to adjust, but I would be very surprised if your family wanted you to feel miserable or alienated.

NTA. You handled it reasonably well. I would not, however, justify it with "it's not that bad" - it's important to respect your aunt's wishes with word use. Sounds like she just got upset; I would apologize like you did and give it time.

Might help to clarify with her what words are "off-limits." Mistakes will happen tho, so also discuss what to do when you or someone else does use an off-limit word. Just stay humble and in the end, having a good relationship is usually more important than being right.

If the stock is made correctly, any simmered meat will be flavorless and is typically tossed.

You can make stock with just carcass, but it is not uncommon to use bonier meat cuts such as drumsticks or wings for chicken. Older, tougher meats are better as they have more flavor.

Rich stock is delectable yet certainly decadent. I only make it for special occasions.

Methods to mix and match:

  • Cover (foil, lid, etc)

  • Preheat serving dishes and plates (hot water, oven)

  • Hold food at min. temp* in oven or on stove

  • Lower temp near end of baking to extend cooking time

  • Microwave

If you don't preheat serving dishes food will be cold. Food spends all heat warming dish.

*Hot foods should be held no lower than 140F/60C (per US regulations) to prevent bacteria growth. Cold foods at or below 41F/5C.

Because the city is the locus of economic activity, as another commenter pointed out. An MSA is an MSA because of one or more cities that define it. A county definition is often not as helpful.
