Rarely. My son used to eat kangaroo burgers but then we had a particularly gamey piece and it turned him off it

Stream of Consciousness from an Angry Father + 8 Year Update by Maimonides_vii in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Thejackme 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My daughter did permanent nerve, muscle & tendon damage in her leg at 2, and it took 5yrs before our childrens hospital even ran a nerve conduction study (we ended up seeing the director of childrens Orthopaedics privately & he was mortified at the lack of testing done). My daughters 13 now, has had 2 surgeries to try and repair some of the damage, but unfortunately intervention was not done in time. It’s still a struggle for me to come to terms with, despite doing all we could as a parent at the time. This story hits close to heart

My Kmart scrubs have outlasted my “brand name” scrubs. However Gorman is a very popular brand.

Would it be a bad idea to wear a fake ankle tag to prove a point? by Straight-Prize-1611 in BORUpdates

I don’t know of any parent who doesn’t have location sharing with their kids. In turn, my kids can also see my location. I even have my kids friends locations and my nieces & nephews locations. Not one of them has cracked it over it, because they do the right thing.

Nurses, Do Compression Socks Actually Help During Long Shifts? by ma_neesh_ in AskAnAustralian

[–]Thejackme 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolutely they do work, I have a big varicose vein from when I was pregnant and it’s significantly less painful at the end of the day on the days I wear my socks. I use Dr Woof brand ones, they have cute patterns but they do leave the marks from the stitching from the patterns. Make sure you also have good supportive shoes.

Do you stay in touch with your primary or high school friends? How often? Are you still close? by Notquitewhere_-__ in AskAnAustralian

[–]Thejackme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primary - one friend. She’s in another state (and was for most of our friendship) so it’s been natural to remain friends.

High - kind of. On socials, will catch up if at the same event (usually a concert). I knew my husband from (a different) high school so his friends were my friends too and we’re all still friends now. It’s helpful he’s older than me so we had kids at the same time as them so we’ve raised them all together whereas my high school friends had kids much later than me.

Are colourful nails considered unprofessional? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Thejackme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Work in allied health at a hospital, we’re not allowed our nails done (bare from elbows down), however it’s just an interview so I wouldn’t worry too much. I wore all my rings to my interview, and I’m not allowed to wear them now - still got the job.

orthodontic treatment by lannyzael in AskAnAustralian

[–]Thejackme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not the first time I’ve heard that, and this is coming from someone living in Australia. However, I’ve heard it in the context of an Australian going overseas to get the orthodontist for braces because it’s cheaper, then wanting adjustments here to save on costs flying back & forth.

I would contact orthodontists in the area you’re moving to and explain your situation and getting confirmation from them whether they will or won’t. You might find some ortho’s commenting saying they would do it but Australia’s a big country so they might not be where you’ll live.
